larry: we have ideas to help you beat the heat. stay connected as the storms pop up through the facebook and the twitter feeds. alison: only on 7 tonight, professional photographer accused of secretly filming his clients and police are searching for more potential victims after confiscating a hard drive packed with explicit videos. montgomery county reporter kevin lewis spoke to the mother of two alleged victims. >> sad. kevin: this woman hired mark weikert to take professional photos of her two daughters ages 13 and 14. >> just a nice guy. an average guy who was friendly. kevin: the girls went to his home and changed in his basement dressing room where he found a box atop a dresser. the box had a tiny peephole. inside police say was an iphone recording vi

>> disgusting. >> the girls told their mom who called police. detectives later recovered electronics, including an external hard drive from weikert's in-home studio. >> i have no idea why anyone that age would want to see a child. kevin: on the hard drive, alleged videos of this woman's teenage daughter naked. >> i don't know what to say. it's a shock. that is a quiet neighborhood. >> the neighbor bill cook says weikert lives with his wife and middle school age son. >> that is creepy. really creepy. if that is what happened. >> i'm glad my youngest daughter was there and she likes to if it wouldn't have been for her snooping it would never have been found and no one would have known that this happened. >> detectives say they are highly suspicious that weikert secretly recorded other clients over the years. he is currently facing a long list of criminal charges including sex abuse of

and possession of child pornography. we contacted his defense attorney today. so far we haven't heard back. in germantown, i'm kevin lewis, abc7 news. larry: it has been 24 hours since the prince george's county police order 12-hour shifts for the officers but tonight the residents say the don't think it will make a difference to fight the recent spike in violent crime. brad bell is live to explain why. brad? brad: yeah. a lot of the people in the community have a fatalistic approach to this. they tell us they are used to it. but police say it's wrong. they will fan out tonight and hopefully make more arrests like this one they announced in the last hour. 20-year-old man by the name of krod moore arrested for a double murder last week. on july 6. this stemmed from an argume over fireworks being set off too close to a car. police chief saying that is exactly the sort of crime that has been fueling the

>> in the first 11 days of july, 12 people in prince george's county fell victim to homicide. at this crime scene monday night another man wounded shot multiple times in a crime police say was not random. a spike in murders. the likes of which the county has not seen since january 2011. yet residents we spoke to told us sadly, it seems the norm. >> i grew up with it. you always, somebody is always dying. it's almost like normalcy. that is the reality most people like me live with. >> combating hopelessness is a reason yesterday that the county police were ordered to 12-hour shifts. >> it gives us the ability to strategically place people in area. >> police chief hank stawinski say those officers will try to disrupt the personal dispute. the county homicide total for the

year. the county executive baker admits for those affected the stats are meaningless. >> we know the community has gotten safer but unless people feel that way, it doesn't mean anything. that is why changes that the chief is making is imptant. back in suitland, there is doubt the police will stop the shooters. >> they will do the same thing. eventually they will do the same thing. brad: this parking lot has been a busy place as officers get ready and head out on the 12-hour shifts. theyre taking officers in the special investigative uniforms, putting them in the uniforms and sending them out tonight. we are told it will last until the chief and the county executive believe it made a difference. in palmer park, brad bell, abc7 news. alison: thank you. there are new developments in the search for four missing men in pennsylvania. the man police have named a person of interest in the case is back

20-year-old cosmo dinardo tried to sell a car that belonged to one of the missing men. investigators were already focusing their search on dinardo's family property when they made the discovery. >> the vehicle was then found at one of the dinardo properties. and meo is known to be a diabetic. his diabetic kit which he never went anywhere without was found in that vehicle. alison: al-dardaa was previously arrested and released on an unrelate -- dinardo was previously arrested on unrelated gun charge. it's been a week since the four men went missing. larry: christopher wray says the special counsel investigation is not a witch hunt. stacy cohen looked at how the campaign meeting with the lawyer dominated the confirmation hearing. >> the man tapped by president trump to lead the f.b.i. vows to act independently of political

the capital one new headquarters almost complete there. now with the county giveing the green light to the project, there will be more office, retail and hotel space packed to this part of tysons. residents we spoke to say they do see major highlights including a wegman's grocery store coming to this. a theater outfitted outfitted oa orchestra pit, theater lighting and facilities that the county can use. also included is two athletic field, spark and green space, parking garages for everyone coming to the area. does it mean more congestion? folks said absolutely. more people coming to that part of tysons means more cars on the roads. some residents say they think it's worth it. >> i'm happy. the congestion is a way of life. if you live here, accept the fact there is

alison: abc7's jeff goldberg is live to explain how the police caught up with the driver now in custody. jeff: the suspect was arrested in d.c. in may. but he was not processed and charged in arlington until yesterday. now he faces a decade in prison. this is where the authorities say the suspect made a mistake that led to his capture. larry: if you countered a.t.v. riders on the road, it's something you don't forget. >> it's fast and loud. >> dangerous. >> on the evening of april 9, group of the a.t.v. riders on route 50 caught attention of the arlington police officer on north courthouse road. with lights flasng

followed the group west on 50 until washiton boulevard. to arlington ridge road. through the neighborhood streets and to the alexandria line. to jefferson davis highway and south glee where a rider dropped cell phone. >> an officer saw it, kept it so we could identify who the suspect was. jeff: the rider was live streaming the ride. they were able to track it to 24-year-old williams of d.c. >> we want to highlight the individual's arrest to send a message here are charges you could face. >> the police in maryland, d.c. are trying to crash down and catch the riders. yesterday, m.p.d. released 50 new photos of suspected illegal a.t.v. riders bringing the total to 98. >> i wish people would think of people other than

this evening. they will pick up tomorrow and the possibilities and they become probability on friday. 94 air temperature in washington. 88 in hagerstown and frederick. 86 in annapolis and 91 in easton on the mid-shore. factor in the moisture contents of the air and it feels like this. this is not a bogus, made up number, derived number to tell you what it feels like outside. 100 degrees in washington. 102 in quantico. 101 in leesburg. the values will be higher tomorrow. 90 degrees we think around the metro area. 7:00 tonight. 88 an hour later. then 85. we will drop to the upper 70's to 80 in the city. the heat index, the feels like index is in the 80's all night long in town. tomorrow the peak of the heatwave with a heat advisory getting preparfed for that. in effect from 12:00 non until 8:00 p.m. for the metro and east to northeast and pennsylvania, delaware and new jersey. another times it will feel 1050 degrees within thata

tomorrow shows the heat advisory climbing in the 90's in the city as early as 9:00 a.m. and at times between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. we will have 103 to 106 degree heat index values. that is tough stuff. we have a heat advisory in effect. future cast wise we see a chance of the showers tomorrow. this model shows showers and thunderstorms mid-to-late afternoon tomorrow. they will pretty much dissipate after sunset. maybe stragglers behind. then it will change. hot and humid and 9 it 3, 94. it will feel warmer than that but in the afternoon the thunderstorms are likely. this is north and east of d.c. proper. in the areas in green, central and southern, western areas just a

alison: a monument honoring one of virginia's greatest athletes unveiled today. arthur ashe mural connects the basketball court to the tennis courts. you can walk through and read timeline of te richmond native success. the artist says he hopes that the mural will highlight the impact that ashe had on his hometown. larry: well, ashe will be honored in l.a. tonight when an award named after him presented in the espys. a show where the athletes from all sports face off for a different kind of trophy. >> hitting the super bowl. >> bringing this sucker home. >> against the world series. westbrook against michael phelps. tonight celebrates the best performers of the

that would become the first approved gene therapy in the u.s. it would use the patient's own cancer cells to create a therapy to specifically target it. that vote comes as scientists at the university of virginia say they have figured out a way to safely turn off genes. scientists say for the first time they can silence certain genes without harming the surrounding cells. that could be a step to curing some genetic diseases. >> for a lot of the genes in the body, we still don't know the functions. so now we are able to go anden activate genes -- and inactivate the gene to see what they are doing. larry: right now scientists are tracking a massive iceberg that has broken away from antarctica. it's the fourth largest ice shelf on the con innocent. it lost 12% of the size when the section broke off. it wei

measures at 2200 square miles. by comparison that is the size of delaware. another way to put it in perspective. if the iceberg wereover the area it'd be the portion of the map that you see in orange. stretching from baltimore to fredericksburg. scientists say they don't expect any immediate impact from the break but they are keeping an eye on the iceberg tobe sure. alison: the army corps of engineers awarded a $13 million contract to replenish ocean city beaches with sand. an illinois-based company will spend months pumping a billion cubic yards of sand on the beach. the project is taking place a year early because of the maliceive erosion caused by the january 2016 -- massive erosion caused by the january 2016 blizzard. work should begin after labor day. larry: ocean water looks fun but i'm not sure even with tomorrow's heat if the beach is relief. >> a little better than being in the city. it will be ho

beach. there will be southwesterly winds at the delaware beaches. it's in the 90's at the beach. it's still cooler than here. a live look now, refreshing look at the chesapeake bay. the temperatures are cooler about 90 or so. but everybody is in the mix. some areas in the upper 90's including metro washington. heat as visery from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. in the eastern shore. excessive heat won't affect the philadelphia metro area. a hot day. hottest of a five day heatwave that will feel like 105 degrees tomorrow. as far as the numbers go, it feels like 102 in quantico. 100 in leesburg. 100 in reagan national. 101 at the patuxent river naval air station in lexington park. in st. mary's county. other areas a couple of degrees below that. through the evening it's sticky and warm and muggy. no rain chances tonight. we will drop through the 80's. the air temperature may settle
