with the storms. over the white house, that is where we have the heaviest hail upward this model wants to give us hail sizes of one inch. if you have any hail or if you have seen any in your neighborhood, snap a picture and send it to us. we are looking at the storms that will move off toward the east. 10 to 20 miles per hour. the gusty winds and the heavy downpours, hail and the lightning is the name of the game as we move through the next hour or so. but already upper northwest d.c. around the chevy chase area. live doppler radar. over to rosslyn it's improving dramatically. lighter right across mclean. to northwest d.c., brookland to college park. if you have travel plans to baltimore or bay bridge to get to the beach, this is the line to

hold off leaving for another hour or so. the traffic will be backed up. eastern edge of the beltway will slow down dramatically. but looks better in gaithersburg, georgetown, rockville and bethesda. heading down south to fredericksburg you will look for the showers, thunderstorms and the heavier downpours moving through the next hour somewhere so. slow-go for the evening rush hour commute. the heaviest of the weather is now beginning to exit the district. moving on off toward the east. friendly. you are looking at the moderate rain at this time. manassas is looking at heavier rain. but not under the warned area. brad, show the warnings again. to keep everyone updated now that we are at if top of the 5:00 hour. we had two warnings, one for district until 5:15. fairfax, live of montgomery county -- a legislativeer of montgomery of -- a sliver of montgomery

the severe thunderstorm warning originally set to cancel out at 5:15 for the district and arlington and alexandria, that is canceled out. ahead of schedule. now we have the second severe thunderstorm warning until 5:45. this includes prince george's county, anne arundel and the northern tip of calvert county. this is where we expect to see the heaviest rain, gustiest of the wind and the rest of the area is under severe thunderstorm watch until 9:00. i suspect that will cancel out much earlier than that. the storms are going to move out of here quickly. then we look for better conditions later tonight. so once again here is the update for you. d.c., prince george's county. i believe this is just about to -- they just reissued this and shrank the warned area a little bit. now that is until 5:15. this is moving east. there is the second one at 5:45, set to expire then. anne arundel, prince george's and calvert counties. these are the areas likely to see the gusty winds, upward of

once again we are look -- not looking for anything tornadic. just heavy downpour and straight line winds that is likely to cause localized damage. heavy downpours to cause localized flooding. if you see a flooded roadway this is the time to reconsider even going out. if you are watching us, hang tight and wait for conditions to improve. in five minutes, clinton and pistorius, waldorf at 5:19. north keys at 5:24. dunkirk at 5:31. the storms are moving east at around 15 to 20 miles per hour. likelihood that you will see gusty winds in clinton at north keys and dunkirk, 100%. now is the time you need to get that porch furniture and secure it. call the kids in. anyone who may be outside. hominger down. it's not going to last very long but it will be capable of producing gust

downpours. head back to the news desk. jonathan: thank you. larry: the "abc7 news at 5:00" continues now. if you have not been near a window for the past 30 minutes it was bright and sunny at 4:00 and then all of a sudden the storm disappeared and the storm has been rolling in. we have video from the district where our reporter tim barber sent this in. look at this coming down the sheets. this was 20 minutes ago. alison: similar scene in the area for the storms. go to brianne carter who is positioned outside the studios in arlington. she has been watching the situation there, too. brianne? brianne: in the thick of it. but as quickly as we saw it move in and the weather quickly changed, the sky, deteriorate, the rain and the wind as quickly as it does that you heard steve talk about but the damage is done. take a look here. this is a piece of insulation. this snapped in half. pretty damaged at this mountain because it was sitting in the middle of

hour traffic. this piece of insulation and multiple others coming off of the high-rise building behind us. with all the wind kicking up. also the roof of that building. seeing something under the pieces. this is swirling around to land on the corners and in the middle of the street. multiple people ducking for cover to look for anyplace they can find to get out of the rain. but some couldn't avoid it. you can see that people are putting umbrellas away and light rain but no wind. alison: a fast mover for sure. thank you very

it's not clear what sparked the flames. expect delays in the area. alison: today on the westbound side of i-66 in the rosslyn tunnel, there has been an accident there as well. this is past 29. we don't know what caused the crash but one lane is blocked. president lane is getting by. we will update you on the situation. moving on to the other news. standing by for a verdict in case of a man accused of killing a caterer at a wedding last year. larry: northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg live in fairfax where the jurors are weighing a case of murder or self-defense. jeff? jeff: an interesting development here, larry. the jury has been deliberating for three hours and they are currently asking the judge for clarification on the definition of involuntary manslaughter. that is noteworthy

second-degree murder charges against 20-year-old kempton bonds in the stabbing death of 35-year-old tyonne johns. now the closing arguments took place this morning. brandon shapiro arguing for the prosecution that kempton bonds stabbed johns in malice. "not in the leg, not in the arm. near her phi tall organs that -- vital organs that pierced her heart. not once, but he did it twice." but greenspun, the defense attorney saying kempton bonds added this self-defense. he said the wedding party incited her to act, created an emergency for the young man. the wedding guests were furious with kempton bonds for turning off the music and taking down the decorations but the defense says that he was doing his job to end the party on

wedding guests and physically attacked by john gonzalez leading to the stabbing. prosecutors say this was murder. the jurors heard the 911 call he made after the stabbing and the recordings on his cell phone documenting what was going on in the moments leading up to the stabbing and the stabbing itself. we will go back to the courtroom and we'll have an jump-start date when we get it -- we'll have an update when we get it. alison: thank you, jeff. we want to show you the images we have just gotten in. we told you a few minutes ago because of the storms we had a tree branch that fell on a metro train. you are looking at that image now at the falls church station. we will monitor how it will affect the commute. there are delays to contend with. we will keep

information as soon as -- bring you more information when we get it. larry: today is one year since a deadly truck attack in france. 84 people were killed in nice when a 20-ton truck plowed through a crowd of people celebrating bastille day. today marchers spelled out "nice" in the bastille day parade. nice's mayor and relatives took part in a solid ceremony. they laid panels of messages chosen by the family members. alison: back at home now, a d.c. hot spot ripped off by a burglar with discriminating tastes. he made off with rare and expensive bottles of bourbon. stephen tschida has the story from penn quarter. stephen: the chicken is the main attraction. the selection of the rare bourbons sets hen quarter apart. but early sunday morning a man broke in and grabbed some choice bottles. >> one of them was incredibly rare. incredibly hard to find. we are not so certain there is anotr

alison: welcome back. our stormwatch7 coverage continues today. we have new pictures to show you. this is a silver line train. what is happening here is it is holding at the east falls church station. you can see the water coming in. the person who tweeted this here saying basically that it is slowly flooding. so we are watching the situation on metro. we had a limb come down on a train at the east falls church station which is why it has been impacting all the other trains. so we will watch to see how it affects the commute. obviously it goes without saying that there will be major delays no matter what route you are taking tonight. stay with us. we will keep you posted on that. larry: spectacular there. earlier today, there she is. queen b introducing the newborn twins to the world. they are hidden in that picture. a lot going on. she posted the picture of herself holding

to instagram. she and her husband welcomed the babies a boy and a girl one month ago. they join 5-year-old girl sister blue ivy. alison: across the country brides are finding locked doors when they pick up dresses from a popular designer. alfred angelo bridal shop closed the doors on thursday leaving panic and confusion. but customers here got lucky. nathan baca explains how and takes a look at how you can protect yourself from similar situations in the future. nathan: the frustration kept happening. brides and their families stopped at the door of springfield's alfred angelo bridal shop. erica clark delivering the bad news to her sister. the wedding gown is nowhere to be found. >> she called me and she is like you need to get over there as fast as you can. nathan: employees inside not talking on camera helping some

well turn back to get the big story of the day. i hear you breathing. can you take a deep breath now? steve: i lost my voice briefly but it's back and i am good to go. we had strong storms over the district, arlington, alexandria. gusty wind and the heavy downpours. those have settled down over the immediate metro area. they are advancing east. there are problems across prince george's county over the next half hour to 45 minutes in terms of the heavy rain, the downpours and the frequent lightning. of course the timing with it all. it's 5:20. a busy rush hour commute on friday evening in washington. if people don't want to go home, they want to go to beaches or the casino or the national harbor. it's congested out there now. this is looking toward oldtown alexandria. up the potomac river. it's improving for us.

that is good news. we had temperatures in the middle 90s and we had heat index at reagan national at 107 degrees. 107! now look what has happened. i feels like 74 degrees. so that is over a 30-degree drop in terms of what it feels like out there. compared to just about an hour and a half ago. 75 in leesburg. still hanging on to the heat and the humidity. fredericksburg now at 104 degrees. 24-hour temperature change compared to what it was yesterday at this time. a 20-degree drop. so, a refreshing push of cooler air. is now starting to overspread the area. this is mainly rain-cooled air. we will likely see temperatures bounce up a bit as we move through the evening hours. still have the severe thunderstorm watch. areas that are shaded in pink. this is until 9:00 tonight. it includes the district and arlington and alexandria. also montgomery county and fairfax, loudoun. off to the west. i suspect they will cut a lot of this down well before the

we still have the severe thunderstorm warning now. prince george's county, anne arundel, southern anne arundel and northern calvert county until 5:45. this is the reason why. here is stormwatch7 satellite and radar for you. heavy rain. gusty winds. a lot of lightning. that is what contributed to the warnings. now we are looking at the conditions that are beginning to improve. the warning we had for the district and arlington and alexandria now canceled out. no more for that. around oldtown you are looking at the heavier rain, also around national airport. the severe thunderstorm warning continues until 5:45. still looking at the gusty wind and heavy downpours. things are beginning to improve. this is not as intense as it was a half hour ago. as we head closer you can see that over toward the shady side area and to dunkirk. you are just on the edge of the heaviest rain. looking off toward the east. this is what you see across

dark at this hour. melwood you are in between. kettering looking at heavy rain. same for walkerville. dillon park. it's improving a bit. morningside, give it another half hour to 45 minutes and you will see rapidly improving conditions. just on off toward the east, addison heights to oldtown alexandria. belle haven country club looking at wet weather at this time. off to the north it is improving. that is a good sign. for tonight 65 to 75 for overnight low. tomorrow is not as hot. highs around 90. we don't want to see that. here is the extended outlook from abc7. we are going for the daytime highs that will eventually rebound back in the middle 90's. as we move in to the middle of next week. heat index values are around 100 degrees. so a nice break for the day tomorrow. then we will start to warm things up again. as we move to next week. typical july weather.

heavy rains and the gusty winds. but boy it will feel so much better tomorrow. alison: good. we need a break. larry: we'll take it. thanks. we have breaking news now out of charles county where a man is being flown to the hospital after he was trampled by a camel. our tom roussey just getting there now. what can you tell us? tom: well, the camel is behind me right now and as calm as this guy looks according to the charles county volunteer fire earlier this afternoon, one of the guys who works for the lewis and clark circus, which had been setting up to try to have a show tonight for the circus was trampled and bitten by him. injuries to his leg. according to the volunteer fire and his head that had severe bleeding. the good news he was taken by helicopter out of here to prince george's county. injuries are not life threatening. he is expected to be okay. he just has injuries to deal with for a while. this was supposed to be a circus held h

at the charles county fairgrounds tonight. but the county tells me the circus has never asked for a permit so they issued a stop work order yesterday. so the circus was not going on as scheduled. they are planning to have shows in warsaw, virginia, tomorrow night so they were getting ready to leave. this camel, as calm as he looks now, apparently attacked a man who works for the circus, which i am told is a very small circus, lewis and clark. i talked to the coworkers here and he is about to be okay but they are going to visit him as soon as they pack everything up and get out of here. reporting live in la plata, tom roussey, abc7 news. alison: wow! okay, tom. thank you very much. keep us updated on that. we'll take a break now. we want to go to break with the pictures here that we are just getting in. rain in d.c. we are continuing to track the situation. as the friday evening storms move through the d.c. region. don't go away. we'll be right back after this.

the ultimate sacrifice for his country. he is one of the faces of the fallen. the 16 military members killed in the mississippi plane crash this week. according to the frederick news post he is a husband and a father who joined the marines after graduating from governor thomas johnson high school in 2002. on his facebook page, maryland governor larry hogan offering his condolences. saying the first lady and i send our prayers to staff sergeant's family and to auz of those who lost loved ones in the tragic accident. the 15 marines and one naver i have sailor were headed to predeployment training and there is an investigation why it vanished from air traffic control over mississippi before crashing. some marines had multiple deployments under their belt and others fulfilling the childhood dreams of serving in the marine corps. the marine corps special forces operation command held a briefing today calling the

steve: give you a quick update sew veer thunderstorm -- severe thunderstorms are in effect tonight. the chances are north and west of us that are becoming more limited. the severe thunderstorm warning now continue off toward the east of the d.c. metro area. we have two of them. one for anne arundel county until 6:15. the second so

"7 on your side" with health matters today as two local pastors are suing coca-cola. the pastors of d.c. metropolitan a.m.e. church and maryland mount ennin baptist claim coca-cola knowingly mislead customers about the risk of obesity. they say coke's marketing of the sweetened drinks made it harder to protect the congregation's health. coca-cola says the charges have no merit. >> millions of people worldwide are living with markenson's disease. one woman -- parkinson's disease. a woman in virginia is lending a helping hand a mountain at a time. they hope a free rock climbing class twice a week for the students diagnosed diagnosed wih parkinson's disease. it helps improve strength, muscle control and mobility. molly started a class after meeting a climber with early stage of parkinson's. she hopes to start a trend insurance companies will take

we have a gentleman on the phone, a guy named mike, on the train speaking to us right now. mike, are you there? >> yes, i am. richard: how is it going? how long have you been stuck in there? mike: probably about an hour and a half i want to say. richard: and do you remember what happened? you guys must have been riding along and something happened. mike: i was in the front car. i saw it happen. we were going down and then there was a tree not very big, maybe the size of like a muscular guy's arm leaning down. we showed down before impact. then crashed into it. most of the tree is leaning alongside the train. we are moving now backwards toward i think another train. richard: you are moving. mike: yes, we are. miches -- richard: yeah, that

other house just here to the left. just about 30 seconds ago i talked with a woman who lives there. she said she and her husband were in there. the storm was picking up storm and suddenly they heard a loud crash that came smashing in to the front of their home. no one injured. she and her husband got out. they did lose power. the house did suffer some severe damage on the front end of it. we don't know the situation where the other house. we understand no one was home. that home, fortunately, no one here injured. reporting live, stephen tschida, abc7 news >> thank you. we are just getting word now. another one of the effects of the storms we are seeing. there is a ground stop at reagan and dulles airport. so if you are traveling or waiting for anybody, be aware there will be some delays. larry: get to steve rudin now for the latest. a busy afternoon for you. steve: indeed. we have better news on the way, especially through the evening and the overnight. the skies are beginning to clear as we look toward the west. this is national harbor. much better picture than we

look at the temperatures from the stormwatch7. 73 at reagan national. dulles at 75. 81 in frederick. 87 in fredericksburg. and upper 60's in the extreme western maryland. great news, part of that severe thunderstorm watch issued earlier has come down. it is no longer in effect from montgomery, fairfax, fredericksburg or loudoun counties. the area west no worries at all. however, it still continues for southern maryland, prince george's county and to spotsylvania and stafford until 9:00. but i suspect that this will also cancel out well before 9:00. notice the areas here in orange. those are the severe thunderstorm warnings that still remain in place that are beginning to diminish a little bit as this moves to the south. not moving fast at all. but right now anne arundel counties, you are under severe thunderstorm warning until 6:15. and another one until 6:45 for

if you are traveling across the bay bridge. upper marlboro, heavier rain. shady side. not around warning at all. alexandria. oldtown, oxon hill looking at showers. but a huge improvement compared to a half hour ago. it will improve through the everything hours. moving in the day, there is lower humidity. there is near average for this time of year. it's dry out there. looking at a nice day out there with a mix of the sun and clouds. daytime highs make it to the upper 80's to 90. the ten-day outlook. we show the temperatures in the middle 90's, for the middle of next week. temperatures for the nighttime lows in the 70's. the worst of the storms are over with for the immediate metro area. however, if you have plans to travel
