good morning, america. new this morning, our brand-new poll showing president trump at a record low approval rating and the clear message from a majority of americans about his twitter account. the president is getting better marks on the economy as the stock market soars and this morning a major new setback on the health care bill. deadly flash floods. nine members of the same family swept away by a wall of water in arizona triggered by torrential downpours as monsoon season gets underway. the new warnings this morning. new overnight, this yoga and meditation instructor fatally shot by police after calling 911 to report a disturbance near her home. major questions this

turned on. her family lashing out. and winter is here. the hottest show of the summer, "game of thrones," premiering overnight. so, what's behind this surprise cameo from one of the world's most famous pop stars? ♪ >> the show so big it crashed the internet. good morning, america. hope everybody had a wonderful weekend and we know that a lot of you stayed up late to watch "game of thrones." a lot of reaction pouring in to ed sheeran's cameo. turns out one of the stars, maisie williams, huge fan so why not? they brought him on to surprise her. >> he ate a squirrel. had some fun. a lot of fans were having fun at his expense as well. that new poll from abc news and "the washington post" that points to stark troubles for president trump. his approval rating

at the six-month point. fewer than one in four americans says hi behavior is fitting and proper, 70% call it unpresidential. when asked about tweeting habits, 24% approve and one in five called them refreshing. the president taking to twitter to defend his son don junior as questions grow about the meeting with that russian lawyer. our chief white house correspondent jon karl is there in washington with the latest for us. good morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, robin. after his trip to paris and a weekend spent watching golf at his new jersey resort, the president is back here at the white house fending off new questions related to the russia investigation. the president appeared relaxed and in good spirits watching the u.s. women's golf open over the weekend at his new jersey club. but he is fuming about the investigation into russian meddling in the 2016 campaign.

clear who the president believes is leading what he calls a witch-hunt. is he saying that the mueller investigation is part of a witch-hunt. >> yes, look how it started and as it relates to the president. >> reporter: the president is now lashing out at those raising questions about his eldest son don junior and the june 26th team meeting between members of trump's inner circle and a russian lawyer who that was held at traur tweeting my son don is being scorned by the fake news media. fake news is distorting democracy. but new details emerged even after don junior himself released e-mails about the meeting. do we now know everything about the meeting, who was there and what follow-up there was? >> the meeting in and of itself is not a violation of the law. the president was not aware of the meeting and did not participate in it. >> reporter: we know not just one but two well connected russians were in that meeting, ar

providing damaging information about hillary clinton. a russian lawyer aligned with the kremlin and a russian-american lobbyist once an officer in a soviet counterintelligence unit. >> this is about as clear evidence as you could find by intent. >> reporter: 60% of americans think it was inappropriate. the president said he would testify under oath about all of this. >> would you be willing to speak under oath to give your version of the -- >> 100%. >> reporter: his lawyer said he doesn't think the testimony will happen. >> the president -- you. >> don't think it would happen. >> he said he would do it -- at this point we have no indication whatsoever of an investigation of the president with regard to any of this. >> reporter: i also asked the president's lawyer if the president would consider pardoning the key figures in this investigation. people like former fat security adviser michael flynn, his

former campaign chairman paul manafort. many democrats fear he will do that. the president's lawyer said he hasn't talked to the president about it but certainly didn't rule it out saying, quote, he can pardon individuals, of course, that's because the founders of our country put that in the constitution, the power to pardon. robin. >> we'll wait to see if that happens. we'll have to still wait on the health care vote because it's been put on hold again. >> reporter: it's been put on hold because until senator mccain had surgery and it's expected he'll take a week or more to recover. robin, i think it's quite possible this health care vote gets delayed until after the summer sometime in september. >> that is quite possible. all right, jon, thank you. more from matthew dowd. matt joins us this morning. let's dig into the poll more. the partisan divide as wide as ever. put up this number first showing 82% of republicans support president trump right now but only 11% of democrats. the real trouble for president trump there is that independents

>> that number was basically roughly even and now donald trump has a minus 27 net number among independents. this divide, though, is really important. it's grown over the last 25 years from where it used to be, 40 points between the in party and out party now 70 points plus, that makes it a very difficult process for either side to get anything done as divided as we are. >> and as bad shape as president trump is in, not a lot of good news. 37% of americans think the democratic party actually stands for something, has an agenda. more than half say they're just standing up against the president. >> well, we have washington, d.c. where the president is unpopular. both major parties are unpopular. congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle are unpopular and all the institutions in washington are unpopular with the american people. s we have all villains and no superheroes. >> not a lot of popularity for that health care bill

put off now until september if it ever gets the votes at all. but this number really is stunning in the poll. right now 50% of americans support obamacare, only 24% support the repeal, more than 2-1 right there. it is hard to imagine really pushing this kind of legislation that is this unpopular. we've never seen that before. >> no, we haven't. as you remember with obamacare, at least it was roughly even when it started then it dipped over the years and the only thing -- the interesting thing, george, donald trump has done something barack obama was never able to do, donald trump has made obamacare popular and president obama was never able to do that. when you start this low usually you only go lower and puts a lot of pressure on those republican senators that are moderates in those states where people do not like this republican proposal. >> real quickly. you and i both served in white houses. the six-month point usually where presidents shake things up if they're not going well. what's the single thing he could

>> well, as we saw from the poll, a big part of what's driving his negativity, george, is the tweeting and way he communicates. if all he did was adjust that i think he would begin to rise. he doesn't seem to be willing to do that. >> so far nothing yet this morning. matt dowd, thanks very much. george, one of the high points for president trump in our latest poll, the economy. 43% say they approve of how he's handling it while 41% say they do not. wall street appearing to react possley, the dow closing at a record high on friday, a lot of eyes are on the market this morning. and our chief business and economics correspondent, rebecca jarvis, is there at the new york stock exchange with the details. good morning, rebecca. >> reporter: good morning, robin. that's right, wall street sees this white house as pro-business. that's what helped propel stocks to new record highs. the prospect of tax reform, deregulation, an infrastructure program, all of these things that business

coming together to mourn a 40-year-old meditation and yoga instructor who was shot by police after she called 911 to report a possible assault in the alley behind her home. >> we want to remember really peaceful lovely woman. >> reporter: the woman justine damond was originally from australia and due to marry her fiance don damond next mom, her stepson zakynthos the first to arrive at the scene. >> my mom is dead because a police officer shot heror reasons i don't know. >> reporter: the minneapolis "star tribune" reports two officers in one car responded to her 911 call and pulled into an alley 100 feet behind her home, wearing her pajamas she came out to explain why she called 911. while speaking so the officer, the officer in the passenger seat pulled out a gun and shot her through the driver's side door. the police department sayinghe

turned on and the squad car did not capture the incident. both officers on leave this morning. the community desperate for answers. >> i am heartsick and deeply disturbed. i have a lot of questions about why the body cameras weren't on. >> reporter: the neighborhood had three lights mounted on telephone poles between justine anticipate house and the alley. most garages had motion detection lights. the body cam rollout for minneapolis police was complete following last year's death of philando castile who was shot and killed by a cop while his girlfriend captured it on facebook live stream. a month ago, the officer in that case was acquitted. justine's fiance was away on a business trip when she was killed and investigators are scouring the area for possible security video hoping maybe the shooting was caught on camera. so many questions about what happened. >> still no excuse why those cameras were not on? >> nope. >> just heartbreaking. thanks so much. now amy with the morning's

a headline that affects so many. >> it does. there is new research, guys that is linking extreme stress in your life to a higher risk for alzheimer's disease. stressful events like the death of a loved one, a divorce or even being fired from your job can age your brain by as many as four years. one theory is that stress increases inflammation in the brain. a beloved community activist who campaigned against street violence is among ten people shot and killed in chicago this weekend. the youngest victim of the violence is a 9-year-old boy who died in a drive-by shooting. no word of any arrests in either case. and some stunning video from st. louis. an suv ended up on the roof of this house. look at that. police say the driver was speeding and launched over an embankment. he is in critical condition but thankfully no one was home at the time. actor martin landau has died. he was perhaps best known for his role on the tv series "mission: impossible."

dead. her brother barely remembers anything and the parents are fighting for answers. it was supposed to be a fun family vacation to a five-star all inclusive resort in playa del carmen, the kind of luxury seen in this promotional video. but just hours into this wisconsin family's trip, 20-year-old abbey connor and her 23-year-old brother austin ended up in a mexico hospital abbey dying just days later. >> someone needs to be held responsible. >> reporter: her biological father not on that trip speaking out by phone. >> it doesn't make any sense. we're lucky we didn't lose both our kids. >> reporter: they had been swimming at the pool just chest high water this january at the iberostar paraiso del mar resort. mom and dad left the pool to get ready for dinner but an hour later they didn't show up in the lobby and learned they were in an emergency room 14 miles away. the hotel reportedly told them both were found unconscious in the pool face down. austin with a concussion and golf ball size lump

abbey with a broken collarbone brain dead and died in a hospital days later. >> she was healthy but for some reason she drowns in a pool waist deep. it's unbelievable. >> reporter: we know their blood alcohol level was around a 0.25. three times the league limit in their home state of wisconsin and austin says the last thing he remembers was taking a shot with a group by the pool. something like a yeager bomb. a 70 proof cocktail of yeager meister and an energy drink. >> there's so many unknowns and mystery around what happened to these two kids. that it really begs for a thorough investigation. >> reporter: mexican officials ruled this an accidental drowning but that's not enough for the family. mexican bliss, they say, refuse to investigate further but past guests reported blacking out after drinking at the resort's bar. one woman writing online, i remember thinking i must be dying. another guest writing his wife blacked out,

worth barking about. bark back now with that massive sinkhole wreaking havoc in florida over the weekend. two hopes destroyed after the ground just opened up. abc's newest correspondent victor oquendo is near the scene in land o' lakes, florida. good morning, victor. >> reporter: crews have been busy. one of the things he did put up

perimeter. there's that sinkhole just feet away from where we're standing and as we look above from our drone you can see all the debris inside part of the house that's left standing, that green bathroom, all that roofing, even a boat and crews are being told they have to wait a few more days until they start the cleanup process. this morning, a massive sinkhole just north of tampa, florida, swallowing and destroying two homes. watch the moment neighbors captured this roof come crashing down. the sinkhole now stable, officials say. five hopes remain evacuated but now the big concern, water contamination. officials testing the drinking water of at least 15 homes in the area. how long before life returns to some kind of sense of normalcy? >> probably looking at several months before we could get this back to normal for these folks. >> reporter: pasco county officials calling it the biggest sinkhole in at least three decades. it is

deep. all that's left of a bathroom, roofing and a boat, a disaster area filled with mud, sewage and toxic debris. >> i see a big hole and a lake and i see that we're in the middle of it and probably not a good thing. >> reporter: sinkholes occur when limestone gets eaten away by water creating a cave and the weight above becomes too heavy. >> the arch roof gets so thin that it can't handle the weight of what's above it. >> reporter: while this one outside tampa is unusually large, sinkholes are a common problem in florida. more than 3500 spread across the state. according to the united states geological survey over the last 15 years sinkholes cost at least $300 million in damage per year on average nationally. however, since there is no nationwide tracking of sinkholes they believe that number may actually be higher. the water levels have come down by a few feet but there's actually a car that's sitting

[ cheers and applause ] >> it is great to have derek and jessica simmons, his mother mary, their nieces kelsea and katelyn and their friend adam. give them a big hand. [ applause ] and momma would say, i just want to look at you. all this video. we wanted to bring as many of you together to say thank you so much and i know derek and jessica, it was your original idea. just tell us how did you come up with this. >> it was just on a whim. everything just was real clear.

you know, when we got we noticed what was going on and we were already waist deep in the water, it was just -- it was just clear, get in the water, get them out, but we -- i knew just on prior instinct, growing up in rivers and lakes, around rivers and lakes, that you got to -- if you're too far out you got to have something to get back in, so it was -- we didn't have a rope or didn't have anything so the only thing that could come to my mind was arm to arm, we can make links and get out to them. >> you're yelling down the beach. what are you yelling to people. >> i'm yelling, guys, grab arm, grab wrist, we got to make a long enough pathway to get to them. >> you guys had to swim out to start the chain for everybody to join. >> right, exactly. like they were performing the chain, getting everything together. they were yelling at people. they were yelling that they need
