one of the security barriers around the capitol. this happened at second street and independence avenue southeast. stephen tschida is live on the scene with the latest. i understand a capitol police officer also injured in this. stephen: yes, indeed, nancy. an intense situation throughout the day on capitol hill. let's show you what is going on right now. you can see this vehicle in question. it's on the flat bed truck, the black vehicle. further left you will see the capitol police cruiser. that is the vehicle which was rammed. streets are opening up again at this time. but a lot of people having a lot of questions about what happened here earlier today. the roar of the explosion to get in the trunk of this vehicle. capitol police say a driver rammed a barrier and a capitol police cruiser injuring an officer at 11:45 this morn

the driver sustained minor injuries. afterwards he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and assaulting the officer. in the investigation, the area locked down. people were ordered to remain inside. many of them frightened about what was going on so close to the u.s. capitol. >> we heard commotion and they told us we couldn't go outside. we were on lockdown. apparently there was a car outside that was suspicious. they took care of it. stephen: police blew up the trunk of the car twice. they found nothing inside. there doesn't look to be any connection to terrorism. reporting live, stephen tschida, abc7 news. alison: keep us posted. thank you. prosecutors call it an open and shut case. a man charged with killing his roommate, stashing one body in the attic and the other in the backyard but attorneys for jeffrey neil call it self-defense. sam ford is outside the d.c. courthouse where th

sam? sam: we are in the third week of the trial. it took three years for the case to get to this point. on trial, the prosecutor accuses one roommate of killing two others. the young men who had known each other since high school. jeffrey neil is defending himself saying one housemate was trying to kill him after the housemate told him he had killed another one. he said it was a love triangle that went bad. but the three housemates were suddenly victims and suspect. after initially fleeing to florida, jeffrey neil returned to d.c. and turned himself in. he said that young tried to stab him to death after telling him this he kill i

northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg live in arlington. this is a big problem, jeff. jeff: it is. cycling is popular in arlington. everywhere you go you find bikes locked up but not all likes are created equal. this is a strong kryptonite lock but down the road you see a wire lock. it can be cut with bolt cutters quickly. a lot of riders are victimized by the sophisticated criminals. arlington police say they have seen increase in the bike thefts from this year to last year and every year the numbers increase in the summertime. cyclists reported to abc7 news that in the past several weeks four high-end bikes, some worth $2,000 to $3,000 have been stolen from parking garages in rosslyn. bike thieves are many part of the organized groups that communicate online target arlington because it's considered affluent area

rain. the storms are nearly stationary. put your finger here and if you go over the past hour it doesn't show much movement. there are new storms to the west. but the winds are nonexistent where it happens. you you can get torrential rain in the same area. that is what is happening here. if you live in the water there is high water in the low lying areas and the creeks and the streams. it's slow moving, intense downpours with lightning. in fact, 25 strikes in the past 15 minutes just in the cluster to gaithersburg. there is flooding issues there. that is the story. isolated storms north and west of town and muggy with a repeat tomorrow and

there are a few showers and the storms developing north of winchester and woodstock. closer to the metro, there is severe thunderstorm warning in effect. that is going to be terminated or extended. the one in the west is extended until 5:00. there are new building on the western flank of the existing storm. this is pakistan building. there is a flash flood warning issued until 7 or 7:15. along 28 coming north from shady grove to gaithersburg. this is some tough stuff.

traffic safety administration vested 150 complaint about the ford explorers leaking carbon monoxide in the passenger vehicles. but now the reports are emerging from the police departments around the country about officers falling ill and being injured after inhaling fumes. this is video from newport beach, california. according to a police report, an officer blacked out from carbon monoxide in the ford explorer. the s.u.v. flies across the road, the median and oncoming traffic before crashing into a tree at 55 miles per hour. he survived. he is suing ford.
