second street southeast. alison: stephen tschida has been out the scene all afternoon. tell us what happened? >> a tense situation here that went on for hours. >> they hauled away both the damage police cruiser and the car which intentionally struck the car. the police say at 11:45 this morning the black car hit a barrier and a cruiser that injured a police officer. it prompted a lockdown of the area. those inside buildings told to stay put and those on the street told to get inside. some waited anxiously at the library. >> we heard a commotion and they told us we couldn't go outside. we were on lockdown. >> eventually the all-clear. nothing dangerous found in the vehicle. but a lot of fr

in the backyard. he is charged with double murders say prosecutors. >> we are arguing it was a love triangle and leon was jealous. sam: the defense argues they were lovers and young killed wingfield when he learned that wingfield was in relationship with neal and attacked neal in a fight that young lost. neal killed him with a hammer. problem for the defense since the other victim was killed with a hammer. >> it's a trying part but the house was under construction. hammers were all over the place. sam: they had been friends since ninth grade and ended up living together in a house that neal's family owned. they worked dish washing and server jobs at restaurants near nats park. manager of nando's described young in such glowing terms a juror started to cry. the prosecutor put on martin, a close friend to all of them who challenged the notion they were lovers say young and neal had sex once. the police never had to l

michelle: the little familiars library in bethesda is weeks away from a grand reopening. alison: we have a sneak peek for you tonight. the new additions include a circulation desk, l.e.d. lights, stronger wi-fi, reading coves and vintage furniture. the renovations come after this -- look at that. the library flooded. ruining the building. the damage totaled $1.2 million. >> you had water. debris and mud. so the hardest part was getting out the mud. >> this was a phoenix. it rose from the ashes. alison: it is scheduled to open saturday july 29. now the huge flores sinkhole is final -- florida sinkhole has finally stopped growing and it's time to figure out how to clean up everything carefully. michelle: it swallowed two houses and a boat among other things. the neighbors captured the moment a roof split in half as a house fell in. the sinkhole measures 225 feet across and 50 feet deep.

the driver was speeding, lost control, hit a hole and flew off a hill clipping one house before slamming into this one. the drive survived but the res cuse but complicated no one inside was hurt. took hours to remove the car. alison: police officers may be in danger behind the wheel. some police interceptor models of the ford explorers may leak deadly exhaust in the passenger compartment. the senior investigative reporter lisa fletcher has details on the issue that is already sent some officers to the hospital. >> nurport beach police officer is behind the wheel. he blacked out at high speed, jumped the median and crossed several lanes of the on coming traffic. narrowly avoiding a head-on collision before hitting a tree at 55-mile-per-hour. >> i just had that nauseous feeling and feeling like i had a headache. >> he is one of a g

number of officers who say carbon monoxide leaking into the vehicles caused headaches, nausea, in at least one case unconsciousness. >> my fear is we have the officers in the city driving around being poisoned and they don't know about it. >> that the d.m.v., hundreds are on the roads from the d.c. metro and the maryland state police to local departments. >> we are looking to the issues they are reporting and responding and we are talking to our officers to make sure they are not experiencing the complaints. lisa: lieutenant vance drives an explorer and says so far they haven't had problems but are on high alert. they are about lively investigating if this is due to a safety detect. this previously investigated 1504 complaints of the engine

redskins and kirk cousins did not come to a long-term agreement so kirk will play under the franchise tag and make $24 million this year. guess what? he make history. he is the first nfl quarterback to play under the franchise tag for second straight season. it has been reported he was offered a long-term deal in may but didn't like the offer. next year if the redskins decide to franchise anymore in 2018 he will make $34 million. adam schefter reported that kirk is open to a long-term deal for 2018. >> he wants a fair deal. if they treat him fairly he is good with being here. but he is not going to just sign a deal to sign a deal. nor should he sign a deal to sign a deal. if you play two straight seasons with the franchise tag you get rewarded for that. he is on the verge being rewarded somewhere, here or somewhere else. michelle: wow! robert: okay. nats and reds today. big first inning if for nats.
