whether the president is discussing pardons. will he issue them, perhaps even for himself? and, vacation dangers. an american college student drowns while drinking at a mexican resort. tonight, the shocking stat about some of the alcohol served in that country. good evening. it's great to have you with us on this sunday. i'm tom llamas. we begin with the carnage in san antonio. a tractor-trail er loaded with immigrants, in the sweltering heat. nine have died. 30 people rushed to the hospital. the truck pulling into a walmart parking lot. someone approaching a worker, asking for water. that worker calling

there may have been as many as 100 people in the truck. and tonight, the driver is in custody. here's kenneth moton. >> reporter: tonight, a horrific case of human smuggling in san antonio. federal investigators say 38 immigrants inside this tractor trailer suffocating in excruciating heat. just after midnight, officials making the discovery. eight dead, 30 more rushed to the hospital. 20 in critical condition. suffering from traumatic brain injuries from heat stroke and dehydration. most of them adults in their 20s and 30s but at least two are young children. one dying at the hospital, bringing the death toll to at least nine. the victims can have been in that truck for

temperatures inside, as hot as 140 degrees. police say survivors jumped out of the truck. an employee called 911 when he spotted a man who was desperate for water. the driver taken into custody. >> it was a mass casualty situation. we treat it just like an airline crash. >> kenneth, joining us live from one of the hospitals treating the victims. authorities saying there may have been 100 people packed into the truck? >> reporter: yes, as many as 100 were in the back of the truck. they're looking for survivors who ran. some jumped into waiting cars. all of this as undocumented

in the hospital. and a severe storm from buffalo to virginia. and flash flood warnings in the northeast. in washington, d.c., a power line catching fire after being brought down by fallen trees. adrienne bankert with the damaging storms. >> reporter: tonight, destruction across the midwest. powerful floodwaters ravaging entire towns and the storm is not over yet. this home carried two football fields away from it's foundation in kentucky. >> we looked around, seen the outside neighbor's house and our neighbor's house was turned and we just got out. >> reporter: dozens more, rescued from the raging waters. >> be advised, woman in her car the water is up to her knees. >> reporter: tonight, the

>> reporter: yes, the committee said they agreed to negotiate to share documents. committee members obviously have a lot of questions for them. and hoping to see them at later date. overseas, on the front lines in syria, the u.s.-led coalition is looking for a knockdown punch against isis. and coalition fighters are finding the drug paraphernalia they're leaving behind. >> reporter: tonight, driving into the heartland of isis going forward with american-backed forces. until recently the militants controlled this land. the fighters take us to a makeshift mosque set up by isis.

this is the flag of isis here. we find evidence of drug abuse a sign of the pressure the militants now face. america is sending vehicles and guns to local forces. foreign volunteers have joined the fight against isis from america to europe. >> the least i can do is fight and resist them and fight back. >> reporter: the sound you can hear. mortars going out. >> i think the morale of the american war machine gives is incredibly strong. >> reporter: sozdar bawer leads a unit of local volunteers on the front line. the young syrian kurd joined straight from high school. she's says she's fighting to protect and liberate the people. but she's worried troops don't

need. this is the enemy. isis in raqqa, standing and fighting to the death as shown in their own propaganda film. life ends quickly here. the day after we met sozdar, she was killed. she was just 24 years old. everyone here has lost a loved one or knows someone who has died. >> thank you. in london tomorrow, a final hearing for the parent of charlie gard. they're suing for permission to have an experimental treatment. the judge is promising to have a decision by tuesday.

triggering new concerns about the cocktails at some popular resorts in mexico. 20-year-old abbey connor died in january after checking in to a five-star all-inclusive resort in playa del carmen. her family suspects her drinks were somehow tainted and they're not alone in their concerns. are 2015 report finding 43% consumed in mexico is produced illegally. officials there seizing nearly a million and a half gallons of bootleg liquor from hotels and bars. they say could be infused with grain alcohol or dangerous concentrations of methanol. >> is someone putting alcohol in the drinks or is it tainted? people are going from being perfectly fine to being blacked out in an instant. >> reporter: one of them, jamie valeri, describing to the "milwaukee journal-sentinel" how she and her husbanbo
