[captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. visit ncicap.org] anchor: three rounds of rain and storms. downed trees and power lines. thanks for joining us. i am kimberly suiters. today is less about the wind and more about the rain. a flash flood watch in effect for parts of the area. this is a pool on the other side of the capital, and the picture used to be clear. we have team coverage starting with meteorologist josh knight. storms blowing through as we speak. josh: moving right across the district. another place we are getting the heavy rain from our camera in bethesda. 74 degrees. temperatures are dropping. the problem is that some of these are dropping heavy rain as well. 73 degrees in leesburg. inches in laurel. right at one inch for maryland. heavy rain. let me show you

trust. we are talking about a flash flood watch in effect for part of our area until 3:00 in the morning. really focused around d.c. and to the east. this does include frederick and howard and closer to baltimore. here is where the rain is right now. quite a bit over the last few hours. it is this that pushing through the district -- this batch pushing through the district. this one is moving pretty quickly. likely to drop quite a bit before it does move out. the issue with the rain is we hang on to this chance until 3:00 in the morning. then, it looks like you are clear, but more start to develop. especially north of bc that is -- especially north of d.c. tomorrow is where everything start to change. big improvement by tuesday. we will talk more about that, coming up. kimberly: we will see you then. the weekend has had wet and stormy weather and left its mark. these storms

homes and cars. right use continues our stormwatch team -- ryan hughes continues our stormwatch team coverage. ryan: here we go again. downkies opened up, coming heavy right now. earlier this afternoon, crews were hauling away damage. that tree came crashing down here. the windshield and the roof of the car now practically in the backseat. now is andrea, another tree came crashing through a woman's bedroom. only on 7, she tells us she is thankful to be alive. >> it was sudden. ryan: michelle and her friend were asleep when this tree came crashing through her bedroom. the roof came in. >> the ceiling fan was on the floor. the drywall was on top. ryan: they were trapped. it happened around 2:00 this

firefighters had to rescue the couple from underneath the rubble. >> they were able to get us a safe path out of the house, so this top level, almost completely gone. ryan: the wild weather toppled trees around the region. >> i heard this loud crack and at first, i thought lightning had hit or something. ryan: but when she looked outside, she saw her car crushed right outside her home in the 900 block of k street northeast. tree smashed the car pushback wind chill. >> i have never seen anything in this part of town. ryan: mother nature has not let up. tonight, she is grateful to be alive and thankful her two boys were not home last night. bottom ofou, from the our hearts. they said we were extremely lucky to not be hurt and to be alive. ryan:

morning, a store employee called san antonio police and told officers that this man approached him, asking for water. when police arrived, they opened the back of the tractor-trailer and found dozens of people inside, including children. >> the air-conditioning was not working so everyone was removed. kenneth: first responders say the 30 survivors were hot to the touch, showing signs of heat stroke and dehydration. it became a race against time. >> we utilized helicopters, at least seven area hospitals to transport these people out. kenneth: officials looked at the store surveillance video. it is not an uncommon crime in texas. earlier this month, a police officer found 12 people stuck in the back of an un- air-conditioned box truck. one happened in victoria, texas in 2003, when 19 people locked in a stifling hot big rig died.

authorities have taken the driver into custody, and the attorney said he will be charged. >> the texas heat is punishing this time of year. these people were helpless in the hands of their transported. kenneth: security are involved in the investigation. kenneth moton, abc news, san antonio. kimberly: investigators are looking into why a car hit a guardrail in glenarden this morning. takenvenile passenger was to the hospital. those injuries are non-life-threatening. the car crashed into that guardrail along martin luther king jr. highway around 4:00 a.m. police have not released the driver's name. now, president trump sounding out a pay or of tweets a short time ago. in the first, he called it "a phony witchhunt," and that it was "sad that the public and are not protecting him." this comes after the community'

" kimberly: jared kushner will testify in private before the senate intelligence committee. on tuesday, the house is set to vote on a bipartisan deal for new sanctions on russia. russia's longtime ambassador to the u.s., at 30 is the -- longtime ambassador to the u.s. has returned to moscow. he did meet with several members of the trump campaign during last year's election, including michael flynn and senator attorney general jeff sessions. moscow has not yet named a permanent replacement.

y2e2dy y1a2y kimberly: a reminder tonight that working smoke detectors save lives. an accidental cooking fire broke out in the second story of this three-story apartment building on 5th street in northwest d.c. the residents escaped. one firefighter had to be taken to the hospital with minor injuries. pretty unusual for the firefighters to rescue -- for d.c. firefighters to rescue him in this way. he was throwing his trash away in a chute, and his cell phone went down the chute. the man leaned forward to look for it, and he tumbled down. he found his cell phone and called 911 for help. rescue crews had to pump fresh air in to free him. he was not hurt. scary stuff, though. is scary, and i have to imagine, a little bit embarrassing. [laughter] kimberly: so, storms rolling through our area right now. josh: and it is wild.

it is just moving downtown, basically trapped inside the beltway for us. let me show you what is going on. you can see the windshield wipers going behind us. if you are downtown, you know this one moves through. quite a bit of lightning with this one. , maybe 50 up to 40 miles per hour as this pushes through the area. not a severe storm. this is over the last half hour. you can see how quickly this is moving. it will not be long. the western side of d.c. and arlington drying out. the wind continues to move to the east. i want to back up radar quite a bit. five hours ago, we had heavy storms that moved across the southern part of the area. southern maryland, and then they develop and moved to the north of d.c. it looks quiet farther off to the west, but i do expect more rain to continue to develop for us late tonight. we have a flash flood watch in effect until 3:00 a.m..

in the middle of montgomery county, that is a flood warning. we picked ups, more than two inches in spots. you might have flooded roadways. that lasts until 9:00 tonight. when we talk about flash flooding and any of our flood warnings, if you find any flooded roadways later on tonight, especially once it is dark, do not drive over them. turn around and find another way to go. we lost the heavy rain in the distance, but you can see the sun starting to move back into the picture. 73 degrees. if that storm moved through close to the airport. northbound, -- 73 degrees in d.c. it feels more like 100 degrees or 101 degrees. we are hanging onto that chance through the rest of the evening. maybe not quite as much as what

is popping up on futurecast, but until probably 3:00 hang onto the chance for wet weather. tomorrow, a drier day. it will be warm and humid. thunderstorm, but most of us stay dry. to say, that is finally when things start to feel a lot better. the humidity starts to drop off and temperatures are hanging in the 80's. tonight, what weather. temperatures are going to be predominantly in the mid to upper 70's. a few lucky places in the 60's. tomorrow, 92 degrees. once again, an isolated thunderstorm. tuesday, things feel better for us. are finally back in town. heading to the baseball game, nice weather for that. temperatures in the 70's for the most of the game. another chance for thunderstorms as we head into the end of the week. kimberly: i have viewers asking for a personalized forecast for ocean city tomorrow. josh: i will have to check it out.
