18 years old. alison: accidents like this in ohio have happened frequently across the country. scott taylor joins us to break down how the rides are checked for safety. >> all the safety inspections and who does them are where the ride is located. there are no federal regulation. states make up their own rules that seems odd. there have been only a few thrill ride accidents over the years in our area. including a year ago in virginia am 47-year-old woman riding the slingshot. her seat fell off the main portion of the ride and she was tossed 40 feet to the ground. in virginia it's left up to the local authorities to inspect the rides. there are no federal guidelines. each state makes up their own rules. what just happened in ohio makes some fa

favorite ride. >> very concerned. i have no intention to let them get on those rides. >> according to the center for injury research and policy. more than 4,000 kids are injured on rides each year. the most common injury is to the head or neck. maryland has a dedicated team that inspects rides and some of the strongest rules in the nation. so far this year they have take an look at 3,000 rides. the state has an almost perfect non-accident record for years. here are some tips to help you ride safely. follow the highlight, age, weight -- height, age, weight, health restrictions on all rides. pay attention to loading instructions by the ride operators. use safety bars and the seat belts and trust your instincts. if you worry about the safety of the ride don't get on. >> i think in general you have the concerns because they dills assemble
