the boy. he turned to call 911. the boy had gone back in his home so everything is okay. this situation brought out fire and the rescue crews. the swift water rescue crews. they say this water, this example of the weather is no time to take chances on the road or outside anywhere. >> if there is water on the roadway, turn around. don't go through it. people think they can make it through it and they can't. we have to come pull them out of a car. a stream like this, don't get near it. there is too much debris that you will get caught on. you will be underwater and we can't get to you. jeff: that is the message. don't take chances. we have seen sticks go down quickly. see if they sort of show how fast they are moving there. give you some idea caught up in the rapids there. again not that anybody is out here necessarily in this water. but

flooding because of the proximity to rock creek. look here at the green garbage can as it's caught on the cedar lane bridge with barely a few inches of the clearance below. around 12:00 noon today the police shut down veers mill road near connecticut avenue in wheaton because of the cooling water. in gaithersburg, pringle snapped this photo of a flooded parking lot. along cloper road near i-270 a montgomery county firefighter documented an even more dra it -- dramatic scene. we watched as these men pushed the gray honda to higher ground after floodwaters overtook the engine compartment. all of this friday flooding caused by a sudden deluge of rain further hampered by the storm water drains clogged with sticks, leaves, trash and other debris. we are back out live in college park. at last check the ho

big change ahead for the bell tower. q: here it is. this is close to the public but this is located between the marine memorial and the arlington national cemetery. why is it closing? on site evaluation going on as we speak. this has been here for 60 years. 20 years ago the netherlands paid care for the improvements then but now it's our turn. we found out the national park service set aside $4 million to fix the monument. engineers are here today to give at it look over. you can easily see its skin. needs a new paint job. there is rust here. the engineers are trying to assess how bad the damage is to come up with a plan to fix the monument in the future. it's unclear when the improvements will happen but the monument will be open again to the public tomorrow on sa

alison: we are back with more on the rain. ryan hughes has flooding problems in alexandria. i know in that neighborhood they have seen it before. ryan: yeah, we were just talking to the neighborhoods. they are used to this. this is the huntington neighborhood. look behind me. you can see that street now is almost completely covered with the floodwaters. this is fenwick drive. right now the county officials are going door to door. knocking on the door to tell the residents to move the cars and get them the higher ground. they are able to park at huntington metro station. in you park there until after midnight you don't have to pay anything. the water is up to the sidewalks in some neighborhood. once it crosses the banks it take 30 to 40 minutes for the street to flood. they expect it to happen in the next 30 to 45 minutes. back to you. nancy: ryan, thank you.
