the chief of staff is out. reince priebus in his own words. that's coming up next. >> today was a washout. tonight could be worse. more drenching rain head our way right now. >> we're talking about dangerous conditions. we have seen water rescues already. most of the area under a flash flood watch through tomorrow. >> abc7 crews are out in several corners of the area hardest hit by the floods. we'll get a sense of the damage already done in just a moment. but first let's start with steve. a breakdown of what happened overnight into tomorrow. busy night ahead. >> absolutely. as expected, the heaviest of the rain moving in now and it is going to stick around for at least another three to five hours. look at these rain totals, closing in on five inches of rain in gaithersburg and we'll add to that over the next few hours. looking at flash flood warnings and watches for the entire

newly issued flash flood montgomery urks loudoun and frederick counties. this one here for jefferson, frederick and clark until 2:15 in the morning. i suspect as we move through the overnight hours, we will see many more flash flood warnings and flood warnings out there as heavy rain covers the area. the heaviest of the rain moving through loudoun county and montgomery county. all of this eventually makes it toward the district inside the capital beltway and that is going to happen over the next hour or so. if you have any plans to travel outside or go outside over the next hour or so, try to do it now before the rain becomes really heavy, at least inside the beltway. moderate rains now in the district but that is going to change very quickly. hour by hour forecast for tonight, showers, heavy rain, we are going to look for a possible embedded thunderstorm. heaviest of rain will occur during the ear

this is a big tree. i'm glad nobody got hurt. >> just a few miles away, water where it shouldn't have been some folks risking the driver through flood creek waters. >> when it rains two to three inch an hour, that affects everyone, not just here. >> the pressure on those power poles is extreme. they hope to have the electricity back on early saturday morning. >> happing happening now montgomery county as the rain continues to fall, roads in the chevy chase area are starting to flood there. this is a mess out there and it is going to get worse with more rain on tap. rrp it was pretty bad this afternoon and then things quieted down. now it is back. you can see just how much water is in the creek here.

that rain is coming down hard now and this area is again going to be an area of concern, as we look down here, you can see just how much water is coming through here and if you look at my boots, you'll see it is not really deep here, but the rain is coming down pretty powerful and if you pan over here, you'll see just how much is collecting and this is the area where you need to watch to make sure there are not going to be any flooded cars later tonight and tomorrow. we're going to be watching this area. this is where one man had to be rescued earlier today because of flooding. we'll let you know if there are going to be any more problems here. >> a good reminder to turn around when you see streets like that. thank you. take a look at this scene. a tree faun falling and it also knocked wires down with it. in the 4200 block of mathewson drive. more rain continues to

>> the white house said president trump will sign a bill imposing new sanctions on russia. it passed overwhelmingly in the house and senate earlier this week. it gives congress the u power to stop any effort by the trump administration to ease any sanctions on russia and imposes new sanctions on iran and north korea. jonathan: reince priebus out as chief of staff. lindsay is joining us now. the news stunned everybody this afternoon. you thought this was coming after yesterday's article. >> you saw it coming but didn't know it would come in this way. tonight reince priebus is speek speaking out why he resigned. >> i think it is a good time to hit the reset button. i think he was right to hit the reset butt ooned i think it was -- and it was something i think the white house needs and was healthy and i support him in it.

since police leveled horrifying allegations earlier this month against carlos bell. bell a former teacher's aide and coach who is h.i.v. positive sexually assaulted several students and made pornographic videos of some of these crimes. bell was removed after llegations surfaced. parents said they had warned staff members. nothing was done. parents want assurances their children will be better protected moving forward. >> it is horrendous. this is a pretty tight knit school community. we knew him and knew him well and engaged with him and never would are suspected. >> carlos bell remains jailed without bond. nancy: an unfoletting scandal in manassas.

rebecca cassell's arrest warrant that accuses her of selling drugs is filed in the same clerk's office as she works as a deputy clerk. abc7 obtained the report which said one pound of marijuana was found in her home and a gun. the clerk's office put the 57-year-old on administrative leave and revoked her credentials. she made $30,000 working as an accountant in the office. the clerk hired a forensic accounting team to make sure nothing was stolen. she is out on a $100,000 bond and tonight declined to comment. the court records do not say what sparked the search. nancy:her next court experience is september 15.

jonathan: this is kind of scary this afternoon. 30 people injured when a water taxi made a hard landing into into the pier in new york this afternoon. the boat was trying dock at the time by pier 76 on manhattan's west side when it slammed into the pier. the good news tonight is none to have injuries we are told are life threatening. nancy: developing tonight. controversy over this shirt. it was worn by a d.c. police officer in court. it appears to show the grim reaper with a white supremacist symbol. he has bee

people have signed a petition calling for his firing. jonathan: no jail for a police officer who ran a suspect over by his cruiser. you can see the whole thing was caught on tape. juan hernandez hitting the 22-year-old man with his car last june. that put an end to the chase. the guy is ok. hernandez was convicted of assault and sentenced to two years supervised probation and community service and his status with the department is pending an internal investigation. amid the fighting at the white house, president trump is focused on fighting gangs like ms 15. trump urge police not to be gentle with these gang members. president trump: when you put somebody in their car when you are protecting their health head, the way you put their hand, don't hit their head and they just killed somebody. i said you can take the hand away. ok?

jonathan: some are saying that is an endorsement of police brutality. trump has spoken about the gangs and relationship to illegal immigration. nancy: a new death tied to air bags. a florida woman confirmed as the 19th victim of the faulty air bags. the subject of the largest recall in american history. 42 million calls. one former takata worker said part of the program is the recall notices are not reaching the drivers they need to. >> it is really a system that was designed in the 1920's and 1930's and really hasn't been updated since then. we are still dealing with paper titles of vehicles and not every transaction is recorded when a vehicle is passed from owner a to owner b to owner c. nancy: a

calling for a recall of all takata air bags. far list of all calls under recall, go to wjla.com and click seven on your side. jonathan: no recall on this case but it is an issue impacting police officers. the austin police department is pulling its entire fleet of ford s.u.v. explorers off the streets. investigators are trying to figure out why toxic fumes are making their way into the cabin making officers sick. more than 60 have filed complaints about possible carbon monoxide exposure on the job. ford says it is working to get answers. you remember when we showed you this old sketch of the new york city skyline done by then donald trump before he was president? people thought this thing would fetch about $9,000. it didn't get

$29,000. that's right. no word on who bought it, though. steve: we are on storm watch tonight. want to give you an interesting fact here. a quarter of an inch of rain in seven minutes in western loudoun county. that is the rain we're seeing on top of heavy rain that we had earlier today. almost five inches already in gatersburg. we're going to continue to add to that. what you see in the yellow and the oranges and the reds is where the heaviest of the rain is falling right now. central loudoun county and montgomery county wubs again around the gatersburg area over towards leesburg and these cells are moving very, very slell. 10-15 miles per hour. typical thunderstorm cells we usually move around 30-40, sometimes even 50 miles per hour depending on how strong they are. we are looking at lighter rain for the

head to silver spring and that's where we're looking at moderate rain but heavier rain beginning to move in around the springfield area. this cell is going to slowly rift toward oldtown, the airport area and southwest d.c. we have ways to go before all of this finally comes to an end but the back edge is out there. well, well off to the north and west of us. showing you the latest in terms of flash flood watches. everything that is shaded in this darker green, what you see in red is the flash flood warning. the latest in loudoun and montgomery and frederick counties. that is until 2:45. this for jefferson, clark and frederick is until 2:15. the district, parts of prince george's county now under a flood warning. a lot going on. we'll continue to see these maps continue to light up over the next few hours or so.

we're going to keep the heavy rains with us midnight through 1:00, 2:00, 3:00. finally we see things ease up a little bit come early tomorrow morning, although we're looking for a wet start to your day on saturday. showers will linger through the day along with the clouds that will stick around, clearing come later on tomorrow night. when all is said and done, we could see upwards of another two to five inches of rain. some areas more than that because these are moving so slowly tonight. daytime high temperatures tomorrow only around 75 degrees, well below average for this time of year. not a good day for the delmarva beachesst although sunday looks a whole lot better. highs in the middle 70's. let's end this forecast on a brighter note. monday, tuesday and wednesday of next week is going to be dry and sunny. highs in the upper 80's to around 90 degrees. stay with us for the overnight

nancy: a very busy night for our weather team. steve: indeed. arriving in our area, heavy, heavy rain. flash flood warnings in loudoun, montgomery and frederick counties. i suspect we'll see additional flash flood warnings and flood warnings as we move through the overnight hours. a quick look at radar from storm watch 7. heaviest rain in montgomery and loudoun county. inching its way closer and closer to the immediate metro area. movement only around 10-15 miles per hour. that's why we're seeing so much rainfall over the same areas over and over again. we're going to keep you updated.
