this morning on "world news now." a shakeup at the white house. >> with just over a week on the job, the new communications director, anthony scaramucci, brought in to help restore order to the west wing, well, he's ordered out. just as a a new chief of staff, john kelly is taking over. and we're left with tropical storm emily, now a tropical depression dumping lots of rain overnight. thousands are without power. then the olympic games are returning to the united states, los angeles, as it's been picked to host for the third time. now the countdown gets under way. you

forced out after 11 days on the job. >> anthony scaramucci was reportedly escorted from the white house grounds. john kelly was sworn in as the chief of staff and given free reign to carry out business as he sees fit. >> scaramucci's unceremonious departure follows a rant about reince priebus. megan hughes has more. >> reporter: white house chief of staff john kelly is charged with restoring order. anthony scaramucci was in the cross hairs. >> i predict that general kelly will go down in terms of the position of chief of staff, one of the great ever. >> reporter: the controversial communications director known as the mooch quickly made waves. >> i love the president. >> reporter: attacking several senior white house officials in a tirade to "the new yorker," calling former chief of staff reince priebus a bleeping paranoid schizophrenic and

bannon with a profane attack. his words went viral. his gestures mimicking those of the president, mocked on "the daily show." the white house who says the president has used choice words himself wasn't pleased. >> the president thought that anthony's comments weren't appropriate for a person in that position. >> reporter: sarah sanders took over from shaen spicer. everyone including the president's daughter and son-in-law will now report to the chief of staff. >> general kelly has the full authority to operate within the white house and all staff will report to him. >> reporter: scaramucci made a point of saying he reported only to the president. president trump tweeted monday, a great day at the white house. kendis, diane? and jeff sessions is no longer in the doghouse. >> sessions sat right across

as he convened his full cabinet. just last week the president refused to say if he planned to fire the attorney general, but when asked about reports that sessions may be replaced, press secretary sarah sanders had this to say. >> there are no conversations about any cabinet members moving in any capacity, and the president has 100% confidence in all members of his cabinet. >> the president had expressed anger over sessions decision to recuse himself from the russia investigation. >> abc news has learned last week that some senior white house aides were encouraging the president to move sessions to general kelly's old job of homeland security. >> and president trump personally dictated donald trump jr.'s misleading statement about the 2016 meeting with the russian lawyer, possibly putting himself in legal jeopardy. >> the story first reported by the "washington post" revealed top advisers wanted to be transparent about the meeting

maduro responded to the u.s. calling president trump an emperor, saying he's proud of the sanctions and warning mr. trump that his biggest mistake in life will be messing with venezuela. back home, a surge of children dying in hot cars, prompting congress to take action. they want technology in cars to alert parents when a child is left behind. 30 children have died in hot cars. 11 of those deaths were last month. and senator john mccain is back home in arizona after his dramatic thumbs-down vote on the gop health care bill. his office says senator mccain is getting chemo therapy for his brain cancer at the mayo clinic in phoenix, he's also set to receive radiation treatment. over the weekend he shared a photo tweeting old man and his daughter on the mountain. and what's left of tropical storm emily, now a tropical depression is slowly making its way a

peninsula. the bulk of the storm is moving over florida's atlantic coast. forecasters say it will blow out into the atlantic later this morning but not before slamming the region with high winds and heavy rains. gio benitez has the latest from ft. meyers beach. >> reporter: emily drenching the coast with over eight inches of rain. the governor declares a state of emergency in 31 counties. some 18,000 losing power. >> i urge you to look at weather and road conditions. >> reporter: a construction worker shooting this video as emily moved ashore. those powerful winds shutting down the sunshine skyway bridge. the coast guard rescuing two brothers clinging to a navigation light in tampa bay. their fishing boat striking the structure and sinking during the storm. in bradenton, a race to find foster homes for rescue animals. >> a lot of rain real fast,

>> reporter: this tractor-trailer losing control while driving on slick roads in tampa, dangling over a highway overpass. part of a hotel roof ripped off in ft. meyers beach. and we are still feeling the sfro strong winds. south east florida could get more rains from the remnants of tropical form storm emily. >> and a class action suit has been filed against the company that cut power to the outer banks. about 50,000 visitors were forced to evacuate, and businesses are reporting losses of tens of thousands of dollars. one inmate is still on the loose after a mass jailbreak in alabama. a dozen inmates fled the walker county jail by using peanut butter. they used the peanut butter to trick a new jail employee. must have been some peanut butter. that

police in illinois are on the hunt for this intruder who broke into a home while a teen was inside. and her mother watched helplessly through the home security system. so he makes his way up the stairs where the terrified 16-year-old girl had locked herself into her room. the teen called her mother who watched it all unfold as she rushed home. >> i was eight minutes away from my house. it was so frightening to have your child in your home and a stranger kicks your front door in.
