warning on the lifeguard chairs talk. a rip current. the drowning happened two hours after the lifeguards cleared the water and left the beach. call to 911. the beach patrol raced back to the water's edge. >> the crowd on the beach pointed it out in the ocean saying there had been a man out there but he had gone under water. >> rescue swimmers jumped in and began a search. it took 15 minutes to recover the body. it was too late. 35-year-old timothy johnson was pronounced dead at the hospital. people with him told the beach patrol he had gone swimming and caught in a rip current. the head of the beach patrol says the surf was dangerous and a busy day for lifeguards. >> the rip current exist when we go off-duty. so that is why it is important for people not to go swimming when the lifeguards are not on duty. in my 45 years with the ocean city beach patrol, 95%

fatalities ever occurred occur when we are not on duty. brad: vacationer witnessed the search and recovery last night and said he came out of the water earlier when it got too rough for him. >> i don't care how good of a swimmer you are. if you are in a rip current or rip tide, it's tough. brad: it's just after 5:00. the lifeguard is still on duty to keep an eye on those in the water. she will call them out of the water in 20 minutes. if the lifeguards are not on duty, they say stay out of the water. alison: thank you. meanwhile the investigators say friday's heavy rain may have contributed to the death of a young mother and two children. the bodies of courtney ashe, her 5-year-old son and 9-year-old cousin were found in lee

creek. they were last seen friday leaving a relative's home in ashburn headed home but never made it. larry: the d.c. health department is vaccinatings do and the owners after they may have been exposed to rabies. stephen tschida is monitoring the story now. stephen? stephen: we got word about 15 minutes ago. they are telling us that the dog that died from rabies was treated at the veterinary clinic on july 14 through the 19. the health officials want to talk to you if you took your dog there. this was a dock park at this. this the bulldog had contact with 100 other dogs. the health officials in d.c., virginia trying to track

the dogs and the owners. emergency rabies vaccination clinic. an attempt to halt the outbreak of the disease. the stunning word came yesterday. a dog named fred spent july 14-17 at dogma. a doggie day care and boarding facility. three days after he left fred died from rabies. this mean's he was contagious interacting with the other dogs here. >> they gave me a call at 7:30 last night. they are work overtime and taking it seriously. >> they are tracking down a hundred dogs for the rabies boosters and they must remain in the at-home quarantine for 45 days. >> for the most part he will be home with me. i'll work it out with the neighbors. >> how did he contract rabies? especially since he had been properly vaccinated against

commander-in-chief signature. vladimir putin is already retaliating ordering the u.s. to cut personnel in russia by hundreds. alison: the american civil liberties union is suing governor hogan and says he is violating the first amendment rights of four people he blocked on his official facebook page. the people disagreed with the governor online. some of the comments were even deleted. a spokeswoman for the governor called called the lawsuit frivolous says the governor has a clear policy to remove hateful and violent content from the page. jonathan: speaking of lawsuits you knew this was coming. new developments out of north carolina where a construction company is hit with at least three lawsuits because of the power out knowledge the outer banks. the construction crew accidentally knocked out power that forced 50,000 people to evacuate. this is the height of tourist season. the lawsuit seeks money for

the dark water since dissipated. jonathan: searchers know they are running out of time looking for a couple missing in joshua tree national park. danya bacchus looks at the biggest obstacle facing the hikers and the rescue team. >> 20-year-old rachel and 21-year-old joseph for last heard from thursday by a ping of the cell phone from inside joshua tree national park. park officials say the couple disappeared in a hike. they were expected to check out friday morning but the belongings were left in the room. >> we have no idea what the intentions were. >> tuesday search and rescue teams scoured the 800,000 acre park. >> one thing that will happen when people are in

alison: we are back with this. a view of a massive typhoon from the international space station. a category five storm. it hit taiwan over the weekend. it could hit japan by the end of the week. jonathan: that is massive. talk of the storms the tropical depression emily is on the move after slamming florida gulf coast. i caused a lot of problems down there. the state of emergency declared. after as much as eight inches of rain fell in some part of the state in a short period of time st. sunshine skyway bridge closed after several accidents and 45-mile-per-hour winds. two brothers had to be rescued after the fishing boat engine died and they started to sink. >> the current could have taken them out. there are no other boats out. it could have ended in tragedy. jonathan: 18,000 homes and businesses were without power at the peak of the storm. what is left of emily is now moving in the atlantic ocean and creating very strong rip

georgia. it continues to move up the coast. alison: meanwhile in the pacific northwest the problem there is heat. records are falling from washington state to part of california. some places getting as high as 110 degrees. that is so rare in this part of the country. police in seattle warning people not to leave their kids and pets in the car or they will smash windows to get them to safety. jonathan: the heat isn't keeping the redskins from getting ready for the season. robert: that is right. it is also not keeping fans from traveling thousands of miles.
