. in northwest washington, suzanne kennedy. adrianna: it was a busy night for firefighters in the district, the s was one of three fires. in northwest, another firefighter was hurt battling a fire in the basement of a home on van buren street and the northeast, a man and woman had to be rescued from a home on buchanan street, both like to the hospital and the man in serious condition. the woman with non-life-threatening injuries. no word on what started those fires. ofery disturbing story out spotsylvania county, a man accused of holding two of his children and their mother hostage inside a home for more than two years. ryan hughes has reaction from neighbors and questions still unanswered in this case. >> the home next to a neighborhood filled with houses all around and neighbors tell us they are stunned that this was going on in their backyard. you can

covered with towels and sheets and you cannot see inside the home. the spotsylvania county sheriff's office says 43-year-old kariem ali muhammad moore is the woman's boyfriend and the father of the two children. on saturday, they got a call for a welfare check after someone reported they had not seen the family for some time. deputies came to the 3600 block of mine road and talk with the man and said he was reluctant to let them inside. that is when the woman and the 11-year-old and the eight year old ran out through the side door and said they were being held against their will for at least two years. investigators believe the children had never been enrolled in school. neighbors tell us they are stunned. >> i saw a mother and the two gives the first day they moved in because i was curious to see who was moving in to the house that had been here so long. >> how long ago was that? >> two or three years ago. >>

>> you are watching abc 7 news at noon here on your side. adrianna: a small plane has crashed on the side of a highway in texas, all caught on an officer's camera. the single-engine plane went down tuesday, the pilot and passenger were hurt. the faa investigating what caused the crash. man armed with a machete in custody after a high-speed chase this morning. police say he cut to women and let officers on the chase, hitting several cars and jumping curbs. he eventually crashed and was arrested. both women in serious condition in the hospital. you guess any natural gas explosion at a minneapolis high school that killed two staff members
