country place apartment complex have been allowed to walk in and out. not allowed to drive. show you what is going on now. the power crews are shoring up the power line that snapped earlier today. what happened at 1:00 today, somehow, that power line fell to route 29 in burtonsville. it got caught one a truck. thankfully no one was injured. the truck caused the power line to move. causing the power pole to snap. or bend at least. not snap entirely. the power crews able to shore up the power pole. route 29 got closed at 2:00 this afternoon. at the worst possible time for rush hour. it's been closed since. a mile or two in both directions to the north and the south. traffic on 29 obviously a major thoroughfare has been shut down completely. a major inconvenience during the rush hour. obviously a big inconvenience for the residents who want to get in and out

apartments. we spoke earlier today with ivan brown caring for 84 -- yvonne brown carrying for 84-year-old evelyn wallace who needed her oxygen to be refilled in her apartment. >> i'm trying to get her into her house. the oxygen is very low. we had no idea the accident is going on. i have to get her in a house or get another oxygen tank. i don't know what we'll do. >> miss brown decided to take her to the fire department to make sure that everything was safe. what you are looking at now are residents of the country place apartment complex. they are temporarily not allowed to go inside. as the fire crews are shoring up, the power crews are shoring up the line. we expect the foot traffic will be allowed to continue. it's happening now. they have just been told they can walk back inside the apartment complex. i'll told that the power is on inside

bell leaving the "7 on your side" i-team investigation here. brad? brad: so what we found is most police departments in area have some for the ford explorers. about all of them are monitoring the situation. we are here in montgomery county in rockville. this is the garage where they take care of the police vehicles. this is one of those ford explorers police interceptors on the rack. under near larry is the superintendent, the supervisor here. he has a little camera that is looking up. he is spotting right here on the screen. you can see it a crack in the exhaust manifold and that is what they are looking for. that is what they are concerned about. montgomery county owns 108 ford explorers. many are the police interceptors like this one. so fleet managers paid close attention to reports around the country, including austin, texas that

poisoning made the cops sick and caused crashes. here every explorer is getting looked at. >> we are inspecting them for the penetrations in the cabin per the technical safety bulletins that we have already received. we are inspecting the manifolds. >> the exhaust manifold inspections using a special camera that turned up an alarming problem. cracks. >> this one here because we have black around it looks like it possibly could be leaking exhaust. >> with the inspections not yet complete it appears that most of the explores have potentially dangerous problem. >> up to 80% of the fleet of the ford explorers have cracked manifolds. brad: elsewhere they made the modifications made by police to install special equipment for leaving holes in the body to allow exhaust in. montgomery county director of general service believes the manifold leaks could be just as bad. >> the exhaust fumes are coming up from the

the manifold. and are immediately entering in the driver compartment. >> that can be dangerous. that is why vehicles like this one that have the crack are taken out of service. at this point for this car it's a warranty repair. ford issueded a statement saying they are working with the transit safety administration. working with the police departments. this has not turned into a recall. but the federal probe, the federal investigation is now looking at a total of 1.3 million ford explores. certainly here in montgomery county and across the area is something that those who run the cars are watching very, very closely. in rockville, brad bell, abc7 news. larry: do we have any idea what is causing the cracks to form? brad: we don't. if you know anything about the cars, exhaust manifolds used to be cast iron. cast metal. now made of steel. they just seem to be happening and they are really hard to spot.

to get up and look and spot the thing. they don't know why. larry: all right. brad bell. thankses. jonathan: two people critically hurt after firefighters had to cut them out of twisted metal that was a car. this happened in southeast d.c. it's the result of a carjacking that started miles away. they spotted a blue car stolen. then they t-boned the acura. two people were seriously hurt. the men in the stolen car tried to walk away from scene but they were arrested. alison: tonight a d.c. firefighter is in critical condition after being hit by a ladder truck on the scene of a fire. 28-year-old dane smothers was hit by that truck after he arrived at a fire scene in the 800 block of f street northeast. he had surgery at medstar washington surgery center. smothers has been on job for three months.

years. tonight there are new details emerging about the spotsylvania county home where police say a man kept his girlfriend and children under lock and key. police say the 43-year-old moore kept his girlfriend and two sons ages 8 and 11 hostage essentially for two full years. an arrest warrant says that moore held them captive by force, intimidation or deception. the police say the children told them they had never gone to school. >> i'm shocked that it would happen this locally. it's also pretty awful. awful thing to happen to them. larry: the woman was hospitalized with an injury from the assault. the boys appear healthy are with other family members. trapped 30 feet above the ground. the race to save a man from broken bungee court before he passes out. alison: and the bizarre story that matches a literal highway act. jonathan: the "7 on your side" health matters team is helping you g

jonathan: caught on video. the crash of a small lane. it seems like it has no power and it drops in line of trees. we have learned that the two men on board were a flight instructor and a student. the instructor has critical injuries. the student is banged up but will be okay. not clear who was flying the plane or what brought it down. alison: wow! back at home now. jonathan: actually, look at this must-see video. this is in utah. he walks in a store. we was threatening the store clerk. the woman in store runs and locks herself in the office to call the police. she wasn't hurt. the guy is not all there. he is impersonating the reaper there. he damaged cars outside before the police cornered him. they arrested him. alison: a dramatic reversal of a frightening diagnosis. the c.d.c. now says a dog that died after staying at a doggie daycare in the district did

they are calling the initial test a false positive. stephen tschida has reaction there the frustrate and the relieved put -- pet owners. stephen: these are the dogs that spent time with fred, the bulldog that began exhibiting signs of rabies and died en route to a vet. d.c. department of scientists ran tests on fred's brain and both came back positive for rabies. >> i was a little panicked. stephen: this led to an urgent call for the rabies boosters and it caused panic and concern since fred had been vaccinated for rabies. then last night the centers for disease control announced its test came back negative. >> both people were so relieved at this point for the public safety reasons and for their own dog. stephen: it wasn't just dogs who got rabies shots. people as well including the staff here at dogma.

let me show you what it looks like on doppler radar. here we are from the vantage point. looking southwest. looking at this line of storms. which is getting stronger. heavy rain. lightning and potential and the strong wind gusts with what we have seen with the strong wind gusts and the storms. large tree branches and trees could go down. the areas we are concerned about until 7:00 are at ease. bailey's crossroads will be in five minutes. the crosshairs of the storm. falls church, tysons, mclean at 6:38. 6:40 in potomac heights and 6:47 it will cross the river to montgomery county and cabin john. we have another storm farther north and west keeping an eye on as well. that is still in virginia. still in loudoun county. this runs until 6:30 for montgomery county as well. we will see what they do. they may issue or extend it. the storm does not appear to be getting larger or stronger.
