trump's recent comments a load of nonsense, saying the president is a guy bereft of reason and only absolute force can work on him. [ speaking a foreign language ] and this morning, a renewed specific threat to guam. north korea announcing it will launch four missiles at the waters near the island by mid-august. overnight the governor of guam responding encouraging calm. >> there is concern and worry but there is no panic. >> reporter: south korea warning of strong and resolute retaliation for any attack against them or the u.s. the new north korean threat coming in response to that fiery warning by president trump. >> north korea best not make any more threats to the united states. they will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. >> reporter: in a statement defense secta

backing up the commander in chief but stressing defense saying that the u.s. has unquestionable commitment to defend ourselves from an attack and that north korea should cease any consideration of actions that would lead to the end of its regime and the destruction of its people. and in pyongyang on wednesday, a rallying call. thousands of north korean citizens packing the square in that nation's capital in a display of unity. the increasingly threatening rhetoric coming as u.s. intelligence analysts now believe scientists in north korea can produce miniature nuclear warheads that can fit inside those icbm missiles. kim jong-un launched two of them last month. but for now all eyes focused on guam because the threat was so specific, saying four missiles giving an approximate date and saying the waters, not the island itself. th

they may actually do this, george. >> okay, martha, let's talk about it more with steve ganyard. steve, as martha said it's a specific provocation. four or five missiles towards guam in the next couple of weeks and a warning against it from both south korea and japan. >> yeah, george, the specificity is interesting. not only does it guess anything state the kind of missile, it says four and the parts of japan it will overfly and what the intent is so i think what we're looking at is part of the continuing test program because this missile that they're talking about has been very unreliable and never launched it in salvo, in multiples so could be a convenient choice to test it further. >> it's supposed to go over international waters and the other areas but could get close to u.s. territory if it gets within the u.s. territorial waters. what do we do? >> george, there's a thad missile system, a new defensive missile system that we talked about in south korea before

a good missile to have there. the problem is it's still a developmental missile and although it has 100% success rate it's never been tested against four and the north koreans know that. but as you know, the real concern here is guam is american territory and the north koreans miscalculate that's an act of war. >> so take us inside the decision-making process, inside the government as north korea prepares for this. they'll be watching every second of every day but how will they make the decision whether or not the test requires a response? >> the radars that will pick up the launch from north korea will hand off that data as the missile travels towards guam and this thad missile system is very sophisticated and it'll operate almost on automatic mode and so it sees that missile coming in, the press, i'm sure, will authorize if they do see one coming in they're authorized to knock it down so a lot will be automated and data that will be passed off through a series of radars out in the western

pacific. >> tensions are getting high, steve ganyard, thanks very much. paula. >> thank you, george. we want to turn to new developments in the russia investigation. we have now learned the fbi conducted a morning raid at the home of former trump campaign chairman paul manafort using a search warrant. our senior white house correspondent cecilia vega has the latest details from bedminster, new jersey, for us. good morning, cecilia. >> reporter: hi, paula. good morning. this stems from special counsel robert mueller's investigation into russian election interference. you said it. a dozen agents showed up at his home and took documents and other materials. it happened early in the morning and late last month. this is now just coming to light. the trump team has really tried to distance themselves from paul manafort but paul manafort, of course, ran his campaign toward the end -- before the election there and also oversaw the republican national convention but really it is his past work in pro-russian/uk

politics that has him under scrutiny and had -- in the wake of this his spokesman released this. mr. manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this as well. the big question, if paul manafort was cooperating to the level that the feds want him to cooperate would they have had to conduct this raid on his home >> that's what everybody wants to know. back to the spokesman statement right there, cecilia. you mentioned, quote, other serious inquiries referencing congressional investigators. what else are they looking for from manafort? >> reporter: they are looking for information from paul manafort but also donald trump jr., the president's son. and, of course, this goes back to that famous now infamous trump tower meeting between those two others and the russian lawyer. they're also looking for information about t

interference in general and the campaign, the trump campaign has released 20,000 documents to the senate judiciary committee recently. >> cecilia, we will see you on "world news tonight." thanks. we get more on both of these from matthew dowd, chief legal analyst dan abrams. matthew, let me turn to you and north korea. we see the action/reaction cycle going on right now. the president's fire and fury comments spark a new reaction from north korea. even though the president's team trying to modulate his rhetoric. >> well, it's very interesting the president's team is basically saying don't pay attention to the president so the calm and cooler heads aren't the president. the calm and cooler heads are general mattis, general kelly, general mcmaster, nikki haley. almost as if they're the offensive line protecting the american people of the world from something they see as a threat. einstein said, you cannot solve a problem with the same thinking that created a problem. they nd

figure out what is it over the last 25 years they haven't been able to do in order to build this. >> there are no good answers to that nuclear threat. the russia investigation and let's talk about this raid on paul manafort's home. quite significant in that a judge had to approve it. >> that's right. it also means that it's clear that the authorities do not believe that he's cooperating as he says that he is. now, he may be offering up documents and cooperating to some degree but clearly don't believe he's cooperating enough because they went to a judge to say, we need to go to his house, we need to go in and potentially find documents. >> knock on his bedroom door. >> yeah, so the judge had to sign off on having probable cause of a crime where they could find evidence there. so that's a big deal. now, dogs that mean that a crime was committed? no. does that necessarily mean they're going to be able to link it to donald trump? no. but it is significant with regard to the i

mcconnell. you would think the president would take some accountability since he's the head of his parrott for whatever happens on his legislation but he's trying to blame everybody else for some reason. >> thanks very much. let's go back over to michael. >> all right, thank you, george. also this morning, hurricane franklin making landfall slamming mexico's gulf coast. it is the atlantic's first hurricane of the season and vbs's rob marciano has more. good morning. >> it's the second landfall for franklin for the state of mexico and the state of veracruz. it came on shore as an 85-mile-an-hour storm late last night now weakening rapidly. still some back building on the east side. mexico city is in the path but they are protected by some of these mountains. won't be a wind event but rain on the eastern slopes. heavy rain, maybe mud slides there. greater concern closer to home. two tropical waves we're watching. this one has a models bending out to sea but the other one off

and higher anxiety and may explain why we don't see equal representation of women in tech and leadership. >> some women are different than men in these ways. >> reporter: now the unemployed 28-year-old says he's considering suing his former employer for illegal dismissal and filing an official complaint with the national labor relations board. the ceo of youtube owned by google's parent company sharing how hard it was to explain the memo to her daughter. i thought about how tragic it was that this unfounded bias was being exposed to a new generation. women represent just 20% of google's technical staff and now more than 70 current and former female employees are preparing to fight back over alleged gender pay disparity. google has no comment on the possible lawsuit. they are already dealing with a government investigation into alleged pay discrimination. google

father tom martens heading to prison finding both guilty of second degree murder in the death of her husband jason corbett. the father and daughter each sentenced to the maximum, 20 to 25 years. the jury taking less than a day for deliberations. some crying as the guilty verdict was delivered. molly herself sobbing and telling her mother, i'm really sorry, mom. i should have just let him kill me. >> we believe justice has been done. >> reporter: jason hired molly has ace au pair after the death of his first wife. in 2011, jason and molly married and moved the family including his two young children to the u.s. but two years ago, tom martens making this 911 call from jason and molly's north carolina home. >> he's bleeding all over and i may have killed him. >> reporter: martens and his daughter maintained they acted in self-defense. >> i hit him in the head with a baseball bat.

he said i'm going to kill her. >> the former fbi agent taking the stand. key evidence they say showed a fight for survival. but prosecutors pointed to the crime scene seen in these photos obtained by abc news. investigators testifying that the physical evidence specifically the blood spatter proved corbett suffered fatal blows to the head after he was already down. the weapons, a baseball bat and a brick. jason's family now raising his children speaking out after the verdict. >> a brick that had been on her nightstand. when we found those details it was so unbelievable. who keeps a brick on their nightstand. >> reporter: the jury not buying the self-defense claim. >> once you hit a certain point and you do not stop, self-defense goes off the table. >> reporter: family members of molly and tom shocked and devastated. >> this is the most atrocious

been a part of. thank you. >> reporter: the family says it plans to appeal the verdict. before she left the courtroom molly turned around and said my father and i are not murderers. she referred to her husband choking her and said it had happened many times before. the only difference is that that night her father was in the house. george. >> okay, linzie, thanks. dan abrams back with us now. the jury moved pretty quickly. were you surprised. >> yeah, i think most were surprised watching this case particularly about her conviction. he's the one who is swinging the bat. he admits he swung the bat and quite they're both convicted of second degree murder. now, apparently the jurors in the end believed that she had hit him with a brick as well and i think there were a lot of questions as to what a brick was doing in her room at all to start, if this was self defense, how did you suddenly have a brick there. she said it was for an art project, et cetera. i think that was one of the issues for this jury, but i think that most people were

especially for her because the jury foreman said at least initially two people thought she was not guilty. >> that's right so those two people said they took the night and came back but this was a quick deliberation. you're talking about, what, four hours or something of deliberations and they come back in a case where even just the legal standard cast tough. the prosecutors had to effectively prove it wasn't self-defense and it was the blood spatter and it was exactly what that jury said there, i think it was the number of blows and the fact that there was an opportunity that jurors believed for him to stop. >> beyond their testimony the evidence in support of self-defense relatively thin. >> right, it was his testimony and there was a hair. there was a hair that was seen on a photograph that the defense said wasn't tested and could have helped prove that he had been dragging molly. that was the defense that he had been dragging her and the reason he needed to keep hitting him was because he c

[ sirens ] >> reporter: this is a training exercise. >> let's go. >> simulating an active shooter scenario. volunteers playing frightened school kids and teachers. the weapons, paint ball guns and the first eyes inside a drone clearing the hallway and spotting the assailant. >> suspect, left. >> reporter: triggering the takedown. >> suspect down. >> they got him. the entire time that drone was watching what he was doing. that's how they knew where to go. >> reporter: the man behind the sticks officer barrymore of the mansfield police department in north texas. before the drone goes through those doors what is going through your find? >> make sure i can get eyes on the bad guy, the suspect and make sure that they're not walking into something that wl

>> reporter: part of the drone task force that spotted this escaped convict back in 2015 hours before a search helicopter could arrive. that unit, one of the more than 300 state and local agencies that have added drones to their arsenals. these aircraft deployable in just minutes, more agile and up to 400 times cheaper than using a helicopter for those eyes in the sky. they're also being used by firefighters outfitted with thermal imaging cameras. >> with better information comes better decisions. it's the next best thing since a fire hose. >> reporter: to show what it can do i'm led into a fire training facility completely filled with smoke. >> let's go. >> reporter: that's me on the right. with members of the joshua fire department, i crouch down in the corner playing a trapped victim. from the outside there's no way for rescuers to know if anyone is inside but a quick view with that thermal and there i am. >> high-tech firefighting. that's the way to do

and found for men good news the rates of stroke are going down. for women, they stayed the same. so, again, we have to always track these major diseases and health outcomes because that's obviously very clinically relevant. >> the natural question why is it going down for men and women staying the same. >> it's important to realize as a society we're not getting healthier, unfortunately. although we are living slightly longer. so for both men and women, the things that increase the rates of stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, we see that again and again going up for everyone. for women they don't really understand what is really causing this change in stroke rates so, again, there are some possible theories here. causes for women, heart disease which we know the number one killer of men and women, the same thing predisposes you for a risk of stroke. less aggressive treatment possibly in women or women who may be more -- less compliant with their medications like blood pressure, lowering medications and then hormone therapy. we know theres

association between increased risk of stroke or clotting events in women who take hormones so, again, a lot of question, not a lot of conclusive answers at this point. >> what exactly could women do to cut their risk. >> i mean you have to ask first of all what causes a stroke and, remember, there's two different kind, a bleeding kind of stroke but the most common cause, ischemic where the blood supply gets cut off. when you talk about lowering that risk the same thing good for the heart is the brain, know your number, blood pressure, cholesterol, exercise. if you smoke, stop and know your family history so, again, prevention is very important. the good news is 80% of strokes are preventable >> that's great news and thank you. >> like to end on a good note. >> thank you for giving us that information and, george, we'll go over to you. we move on to financial advice and a new survey about credit card fees that examines 100 different cards and reveal those with the fewest fees and others with the biggest charges. >>

wandering around shooting a movie and no one noticed because like no one in it looks recognizable at all. >> i tell you what, watching the movie you definitely were that character. you embodied that character the entire way through and had this accent. you're speaking with an english accent now which i'm used to but the queens accent. you mastered it. how did you master it? >> i mean i've always kind of liked doing accents. it's kind of -- it's a holdover. my mom is one of those people talking to someone on the phone with an accent and by the end of the conversation no matter how strong their accent is she's fully imitating that. and i guess it's a kind of holdover. i find it really fun. but i mean i spent a lot of time in queens and queens center mall. i was in the tattoo shop there for ages and ages. >> you know how many people are going, i wish i would have went into that tattoo shop. >> i kept walking in on people getting -- i wanted to talk to

the tattoo or to the piercing guy and i would keep interrupting him in the middle of a tongue piercing, so just say this line. and they're like -- >> you know but i heard this movie was essentially written for you so what drew you to this movie? >> i mean, i really liked the safdie brothers, one of whom was in the clip. i really like their previous movie and i just felt very while and out of control and it kind of felt like it was almost a documentary and i just wanted to do something like that i wanted to make a thriller which felt like it was on the cusp of the cops just busting in at any moment and hopefully it does feel wild. >> it did. it made me stay up later, past my bedtime worried about you last night. this is quite a different experience. no one recognized you as you were filming this movie. quite a different experience from "twilight"

multiple ubers and hiding in trunks to get away from people. >> yeah, that was -- i used to do that with my assistant all the time. but the most embarrassing thing, you kind of -- you get to a point where you have no idea if anyone is even following you or not. it's like everybody -- >> get in the trunk. i don't know if somebody is following or not. get in the trunk. did the uber driver freak out when you got in the trunk. >> i didn't get in the trunk of a uber. that would be kind of incredible though. that's definitely i'm going to do that just for fun. >> another project you did. i want to ask you about. you did something for "gq." in search of a hot dog. >> yeah. >> tell us about that. >> that was -- i mean i guess for every single magazine cover now you have to do these little videos or whatever and the -- we were initially going to do it just normal questions
