-- 6:30, on your side. >> developing in charlottesville, the community remains on and after a white nationalist rally turns deadly. this video shows a man driving into a car into a crowd of counter protesters yesterday. nation are city, and asking why it came to this. jeff goldberg is live in charlottesville with the latest on the chaos. reporter: we are at the corner of fourth and water street a couple blocks off of the walking mall. there is a growing memorial for heather higher, killed yesterday when a vehicle filed -- plowed into a group of counter protesters. the number of flowers and people keep growing by the hour. at the moment, things are relatively quiet. a significant police presencen

flareup. tensions continuing today in charlottesville, as unite the right organizer jason kessler tried holding a press conference, but was shouted down by protesters. authorities had to shield him and escort him to safety, all with police set -- snipers keeping close watch from nearby rooftops. sunday's unrest follows a day of violence on saturday, when white nationalists and neo-nazis marching in charlottesville class with counter protesters. before 5:00, a car slammed into a group of people marching near the downtown walking mall, killing one woman and injuring 19 others. 32-year-old heather hyer of charlottesville died in the crash. today, a quiet vigil held in honor of heyer, who was marching yesterday in opposition to the unite the right march. >> she was here to speak up for equality and to know that her life was taken because of that

vehicle, 20-year-old james alex fields, jr. of ohio, was charged with second-degree murder along with several other crimes. last night on twitter, the president offered condolences to the victims, while democrats and republicans have criticized the president for not specifically condemning white nationalists during remarks on saturday. >> we condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides. reporter: the unite the right -- holds to torch rallies on friday night to protest the removal of the robert e lee statue from emancipation park today at mount zion baptist. church in charlottesville, the governor terry mcauliffe delivering a message to white nationalists. >> there is no place for you here in charlottesville.

reporter: we are back here live at this memorial where the crash took place yesterday. the uva medical system is reporting that up to 19 people were injured yesterday in the crash. 10 are in good condition and nine are discharged. the washington post is reporting that the driver suspected in committing this crash yesterday, james alex fields, jr., has long been a supporter of nazi beliefs. the suspect will be in court here tomorrow morning. in charlottesville, jeff goldberg, abc 7 news. kimberly: thank you for that report. here's what else we know about the victim 32-year-old heather heyer,. she worked at a law firm in charlottesville. the president of the miller lite group released a statement saying, "heather was a great person. she was a peaceful person. she was full of life and her time was cut short."

lafayette park. another sign of solidarity for everyone in charlottesville. on the national, ryan hughes, abc 7 news. kimberly: a virginia state police helicopter crashed in all the marvel county, killing two troopers who had been assigned to protect the governor. lieutenant h. jay cullen and trooper-pilot bates were both killed. bates would have turned 41 years old today. he just transferred to the aviation unit last month. the national transportation safety board is still investigating today. this new video shows an interstate processional, a sea of blue lights. .ou can see it at wjla.com we will be covering every development after the chaos in charlottesville. tragic new details to tell you about now. a 17-year-old girl who was shot in the h

car in northeast has died. police are investigating her death as a homicide. she was caught in the crossfire on saratoga avenue. the 21-year-old man has been arrested. at last check, detectives are looking for two more suspects tonight. also in northeast, police have arrested a son for killing his 81-year-old mother late last night. 51-year-old derek cook was arrested and charged with murder. it happened on 4th street. now to the cringe worthy video fall from bryce harper. fans held their breath and assumed the worst. tonight we are learning more hopeful details. scott abraham is here with an update. could have been much worse. scott: you saw the video. everybody saw the video. it could have much, much worse. a collective sigh of relief from nats fans everywhere. bryce harper should be back in the lineup before the season is over.

>> we feel that we avoided, dodged a bullet a little bit here with any long-term ligament or tendon damage. the bone bruise is something of significance and we are going to treat him cautiously, and hopefully have been back later on the season. scott: you know what? maybe bc sports teams are not cursed after all. a little bit of good news today. the injury to bryce harper not as bad as everybody feared. the all-star does not have any ligament or attended damage in his left knee. he does, however, had a significant bone bruise that will keep him out indefinitely. the injury happened in the first inning of last night's game against the giants. the road to recovery has already started, but harper plans to be very smart with this injury. i don't really have a recovery timetable. if i feel good, i feel good.
