with david muir. we now return to our scheduled programming. >> annou >> we are following the breaking news out of spain. a van has plowed into a crowd in barcelona. the van the hit a group of people on la rambla. we know several people have been hurt. we don't know if this was an act of terror or accident. we will bring you more information as soon as we get it. eff: there is no permanent damage on the statue. this is the confederate soldier statue in leesburg in the courthouse grounds. not for any specificthis is ther individual, just a confederate soldiers monument. it looks like some power washing occurred from this vandalism that took place. here is video we shot earlier today. what sheriff's office is saying, at some point after midnight, someone or some people spray-painted on this monument, on the base of the monument. there were words of obscenities. there were no specific messages directed at any group or directed at any individual, words of obscenity's on the base of this monument. when we arrived here early this morning, sheriff's representatives could not tell us exactly where the vandalism took place, but by the looks of it, it was at the base.

the loudoun county sheriff's office, still investigating. there are cameras on the courthouse grounds, so investigators are going to be looking at that footage. many people we have spoken with say, whether you agree with the debate or not, to take down the statues or not, many people are condemning this. we will have that story coming up on abc seven news. jeff goldberg, abc 7 news. theust a short time ago, president responded to the removal of several confederate statues around the country. he's calling it "foolish." j norman is following the latest as the president continues to take heat for those comments following the violence in charlottesville.

search for a group of thieves who have pulled off a movie-like jewelry heist in london. in the blink of an eye, they were gone scooters -- gone on scooters. >> it looked like a scene out of a hollywood action movie, a gang wielding hammers, making their getaway after smashing and robbing a jewelry store, making off on the three mopeds as stunned pedestrians watching. you can see one of the masked men using a sledgehammer. the gang carried out the highest and less than one minute -- in less than one minute. no one was hurt. the store would not reveal the exact worth of the stolen merchandise. investigators are searching for clues. one of the gang's hammers can be seen left behind on the floor. smash and grab thieves

last few years have pulled off several high-profile heists, like this one in houston, where masked men made off with millions in jewels. in one of the most daring cases, these robbers tore into a north london shopping mall on motorcycles, speeding off with $3 million in loot. police are raising the catch these robbers before they hit their next target. adrianna: a similar scene in the u.s. a herb of masked men storm into a pawn shop. the robbers got away with 66 guns. burglars drove a car into the shop. the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms says georgia led the nation income store thefts and number of guns stolen. in woman is back home after surviving for nearly a month in the woods.
