this cell right here got off to the west that is moving to the east at 5 miles per hour. capable of gusting winds, heavy downpour and thunder and lightning. the rest of the area, no watches or warnings to speak of. however, i do believe we will see additional stronger storms develop as we head through the late afternoon hours and in the early evening. show you the line moving across the south of us across charles county. once again, this is moving east, until 4:30. we are going to look for lighter showers around the district and up to the northeast d.c. over toward chillum and bladensburg. this is all moving off toward the north and the east at around 10 to 15 miles per hour. it's warm and humid in the middle to the upper 80's.

observatory. but the telescope people took turns to come inside and see it from there. amazing to see. one observation i had here is that this eclipse had a huge amount of build-up. a lot of hype buildup to it. but every person we spoke to said it not only lived up to the hype but exceeded it. really cool thing to see and see it. life at the air and the space museum, jeff goldberg, abc7 news. jonathan: thank you very much. what did it look like on the ground? check this out. like a sunset and a sunrise. in a span of minutes. this is a time lapse now of the eclipse at the ground level five minutes of video that we can press to 30 seconds showing it going dark in salem, oregon. people were cheering louder and louder as it went dark like the middle of the night to point they could see stars in the sky. look at that. alison: pitch black. jonathan: the last time we had an eclipse like this, there was no social media and no cell phones. alison: how did we live? jonathan: well.

alison: so if you witnessed it, how could not share it? this time lindsey mastis with how eclipse across america really captured everything online. everybody was sharing today. >> absolutely! this is amazing to see it for yourself. it's so incredible as well to see it through social media. because it allows us to share the different von tage point. first up from salem, oregon. "way cooler than i thought it could be"? carbondale the clouds rolled in as the eclipse started. crowds packed packed in the sta. in the moment of totality it got dark. this is the same picture but it looks like it's dusk. andrew says he is marking this off the bucket list saying the photos cannot capture how amazing it was. others fixated on the ground where the eclipse cast shadows on the sidewalk. those with the glasses got a great view as well and some were sharing the exper

back to you. alison: crooked there. thank you. so when it comes to what the sun looked like here, this is it. it was about 80%. a little more covered than some places. jonathan: crescent moon but a dark cloud passing by is the equivalent. but so many clouds in the sky there was just a few, not a lot. if you had eclipse glasses or made a box to watch on the ground it was cool. kevin lewis in silver spring. kevin, montgomery county went all out for this eclipse. >> it did. no doubt about that. there were watch parties, rooftop, restaurant and a number of parks at the martin luther jr. park. there was rainfall, as well. that sent some people home but at 2:00 p.

i was that crowded. we spoke to mothers, grandfathers, foreigners, teachers and police and a lot of kids. there was excitement as the people spread out on the blankets and sat in lawn chairs. laughter, the official soundtrack of this event. people took advantage of a pink cotton candy stand. they had trivia from portable stage. the park staff handed out a thousand viewing glasses but then people had to resort to creative measures. >> cut in half. use one eye and look up. >> it works. >> it does get the job done. >> lake this is happening far, far, far from here. we can see it. >> this is cool. this doesn't happen often.

collides with a commercial ship. brianne carter has the developing story and new measures that the navy is taking now. brianne: that is the biggest concern. the missing members of the military after the collision. tonight, search and rescue efforts are underway. ten american sailors are still missing tonight after the uss john mccain collided with a tanker on the waters east of singapore. the collision damaging the ship's hull. including crews sleeping quarters and the communication room. five soldiers suffered non-life threatening injuries and taken to a singapore hospital. >> there is an investigation underway. >> they are ordering a one-day navy standdown. to ensure the safe and the effective operations. this is the se

>> 25-year-old defendant antonio williams who is accused of killing three young girl in a clinton, maryland, home last week entered the courtroom today. yelling, crying and resisting. once he made eye contact with the mother in the gallery he began yelling, "that's my mom." he repeatedly told the judge i am not the one you are looking for. his mother and the other relatives wept inside the courtroom. others became angry. there was a near brawl. relatives yelling and lungeing at each other. it took three sheriff deputies to restrain williams as he was carried away. the judge forced to reschedule this bond hearing. it was last thursday while the mother worked overnight. williams was left babysitting his two sisters and two small cousins ages 2, 6, 9 all girls. the mother found the older girl dead in one bed the next morning. the 2-year-old bab
