rain is falling. the water, you can see it behind sus getting choppy along the -- be -- it is getting choppy along the gulf coast. this is the strongest storm to make landfall in more than a decade in the united states. the main concern is what happens after it come ace shore. >> think of your life first. the most important thing we are dealing with right now is human life. jonathan: widespread power outages is a concern. they are talking about the outages that could last three to seven days. steve: the storm is picking up more steam. galveston, texas. the ocean is very, very choppy. this is north of where the main storm is located. this is where we have now. latest update. maximum winds 125 miles per hour. it is moving north and west at 10 miles per hour. it is going to slow down a bit. here is the eye

diameter that is just around 20 miles. inside that eye it is quiet and calm. around the eye is the bigger problem. the storm moves closer to make landfall at 10:00 to 11:00 eastern time this evening. this is what will happen once the storm makes landfall. possibly as a category four. or three storm. depending whether or not it intensifies. a tiny bit more. once it does make landfall it is going to meander about. not only for day tomorrow but in to sunday and monday. getting guidance off north and east by tuesday and wednesday. by the time that happens we are looking at the rain totals upward to 25, 30, maybe more than 30 inches of rain. we have brand new information coming up. looking at the weather around the d.m.v. in a few minutes. jonathan: see you then. fema is on standby tonight. hurricane harvey strikes. nathan baca is live outside the headquarters with the new information for us. >> we have been talking to folks outside. talking to someone with the security. they are expecting all hands on deck through the weekend. the fema region six watch over texas. they are moving people and equipment from the several states to a camp near san antonio. maryland task force one search and rescue the second wave of that that assistance. this video shows them on the standby. the worm has to wait for texas governor. they won't ask until the state asks for help. that hasn't happened yet. >> i'm afraid that people may not take the

within the eye it's quiet. if you were in the center you would see the sun shining and you would look around and see the clouds. once you get in the northern part of the storm, that the strongest part where you see the orange and the reds. that is going to come ashore as we move through the next few hours or so. this is south padre, texas, a live shot at this hour. waves are beginning to churn up. galveston, texas looking at the strong gusty winds. people are still on the roadways to get from place to place. like i said, by 10:00, to 11:00 at night it's a much different story here. here is the latest for you. update now 6:00 p.m. we have winds at 225 miles per hour. if they increase to 130 it's a category three storm. we have the wind gusts at 155. pressure falling. moving northwest at 10 miles per hour. it will slow down as we move through the next few hours. once it makes landfall, this is what will happen. it will meander around pretty much the se
