come. the storm is not done yet. i'm joined by chief meteorologist doug hill. we covered a lot of storms in our time. i have never seen, you never seen an event like this. a lot of hurricanes but nothing that parks itself over a city of 5 million. the first estimate came out for rain and i thought they have to be kidding. jonathan: not so much. 30, 40 inches of rain. doug: more than that when it's done. in the day, this flared up west of houston. there is heavy rain across southern louisiana. what we will see coming up, we continue to add totals here over the next couple of days. this will average 40 to 50 inches. this will eventually get out but think how much more it will

jonathan: 18 students booted from miles per hour university accused of hazing. the university spokesperson said they were part of anguipede grounder group that posed as a "threat to the safety and the well being of the students." the university says the group was prone to physical violence, hazing and underage drinking. >> it was the right thing to do but these things take time. i appreciate the administration doing what they need to do to keep the campus safe and ensure the safety of all the students. jonathan: american university tells us they charged 67 students associated with the group with conduct violations. michelle: deadly hit-and-run on i-95 northbound in t

rain bands are over and over. then heaviest stuff shifted east. the rainfall totals spectacular so far. 40 inches in dayton and katy and the houston hobby area has 25 inches reported in the time period. we will see more rain. trying to pinpoint exactly where that is going to be is difficult. but definitely houston to the north of houston. east to the coastline near galveston. that may be where it ends again. and east coast, tropical storm irma. it doesn't really have a circulation center. it's really a blob, tropical disturbance.

regardless of whether it is named irma or not it's pushing a lot of water in the coastline already. interacting with high pressure. driving huge waves, rip currents and all kind of issues there. we see the latest from the hurricane center that gets it up to 40 miles per hour winds. it will maintain 40-mile-per-hour winds whether it's tropical storm officially or not. we see rain moving in, in the morning. heaviest rains along the coast. four or five inches possible. it will wind down. the sun will break through on wednesday. sunshine on thursday. the labor day weekend is beautiful. there could be a you shower on saturday. showers are possible sunday with the sun and labor day is fine at 84. a quick look
