have not been able to get out and get what they need, maybe had light flooding. people have been getting stuff and leaving. the scenes here are very uplifting. despite thetivity dire circumstances. when we first got here, there were school buses with people getting off. we saw a family with three young kids carrying three garbage bags full of stuff. two police officers went right up to them inserted talking to the kids, gave them stickers, temporary police badges, and within moments the kids were laughing, chasing each other around. this was just one example of what we have seen. the interaction between volunteers and evacuees and law enforcement, it is really uplifting seeing people in their worst moments getting the help they really need. jonathan: kristen, we appreciate you taking the time. heartwarming and hard-working as well, thank you. nancy:

underway to figure out how to best protect d.c. in the event of severe weather or extreme flooding. tom roussey joins us live from the tidal basin to explain the measures already in place and those to come. tom? is: of course, nancy, d.c. not right off the ocean, so it is not likely to experience a storm like hurricane harvey. that said, it is considered a high risk area for flooding. we wanted to find out what happens the next time the tidal basin waters overflow and start going that way. many walk by without realizing what it is. >> this is the 17th street levee. tom: and the next time there is big flooding from the potomac, it will likely become famous. the levy was finished in 2014. this video of a practice run shows what it is like when the wall is put up. >> within 24 hours we can bring it down and put a wall across 17th straight. tom: along with the
