anchor: a crash in front of the trump hotel, causing a heavy police presence on pennsylvania avenue near 12th street northwest. that is where we find cheryl conner, live. i understand pennsylvania avenue just reopened? >> yeah, kimberly, it has. was shutt 5:00, it down. within the past half an hour. car thato show you the police say crashed into several vehicles in the 3:00 hour before coming to a stop. police tell us the suspect was wanted for assault with a deadly .eapon, which was a knife five people were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, and that includes the suspect. we talked to a witness who was having lunch at the trump international hotel. he shot video of the suspect as he was loaded into an ambulance.

what was happening, especially at the president's hotel. >> so moment got out of her car. they were yelling at her to move. her baby was in the car, so we her baby, run across the street, and in the police were all over the sky. -- this guy. cheryl: another witness shared a police company a child who was involved in the crash. five people were taken to the hospital with injuries that are said to be non-life-threatening. we asked police if there was a chasebefore this -- before the suspect crashed into several vehicles. all they tell us right now is that this is under investigation. in northwest washington, cheryl conner, abc 7 news. kimberly: police are on another scene. this time, it was a shooting in southeast.

so many people responded, they had trouble fitting it all in. another truck full of supplies is set to go down next week. volunteers from our area have been on the ground in texas and louisiana since harvey hit, but less than 24 hours after landing back home in bc, one vote--- in d.c., one volunteers has been has been deployed. ryan hughes introduces us to the couple both committed to helping out. >> it is just solid rain all the time. ryan: rebecca callahan saw firsthand the devastation, but also the resilience at their hearty -- after harvey slammed into the gulf coast. she volunteered with the american red cross, leading a team in opening a shelter in louisiana. >> it, frankly, was remarkably calm most of the time, because so many were in shock that it was not at the point that anyone had time to think. ryan: rebecca said that there were fears of the shelte

new developments in california, were governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency in los angeles county as crews battle the largest fire in that county's history. the fire in the hills above 6000nk has burned nearly acres. two firefighters have been treated for heat related illnesses. four homes have either been burned or destroyed. the biggest in their history! josh: temperatures have been national model a lot of places breaking all-time record highs up and down california. kimberly: we have beautiful, mild weather out here. josh: we are on the flipside of what they are seeing out there, so that allows us to get temperatures that top out in the upper 70's. it does n
