>> closing the book on a 42-year-old mystery. both wentwo girls missing from a mall in 1975. today one of the men home police targeted for years pleaded guilty. >> this change to the way the kids allowed -- parents allowed their kids to go out. decades in the making. moments after lloyd welch pleaded guilty to the murder of 12-year-old sheila lion and her 10-year-old sister catherine, their parents shared their gratitude to the many investigators who never gave up. >> we want to say, thank you, and it has been a long time. we are tired. we just want to go home. >> on march 25, the lyons sisters disappeared after a trip to meet friends at the wheaton

our innocence. >> for decades, the case went unsolved until 2013 when cold case investigators discovered evidence connecting lloyd welch to the crimes. after a series of interviews with welch, investigators charged him in the murders, leading to today's plea, which will also include a guilty plea in the sexual assault of a young girl in prince william county in 1996. >> he is very remorseful. >> defense attorneys claim that while welch, who was 18 at the time, is guilty of objecting the girls and burning there remains, they claimed others carried out the sexual assaults and killings. >> there is not credible evidence that i am aware of that suggests that mr. welch was the perpetrator of the murder of the lion sisters. >> his uncle was

charleston south carolina. landmark for the beaches there since hurricane hugo. it ended up in one man's front yard more than two football fields away from where it originally rested. beach erosion on the resulted in an entire house falling off an irma-created bluff. >> the big return to the florida keys. traffic jams. lots of folks try to get back out on the island. the first time that those who evacuated are being allowed back in. it is a rush to see the damage that irma did to their homes and businesses. these crews are driving north from jacksonville. we are hearing that among the traffic heading south, dozens of power

are currently without electricity. >> there is a massive catastrophic damage. there are a lot of broken poles being replaced, multiple spans of wire on the ground, long and labor-intensive work. >> just after the deployment, another departure took place. this from the red cross's fairfax county location. the causency response and two volunteers are traveling five -- 500 miles south to carolina. forwarde been looking to getting down there, i initially thought i was going to florida, south carolina. they are suffering as much as any state right now. crews plan to be on the ground in florida for at least two weeks.

saved a two-year-old boy from drowning in waldorf? it happened yesterday and some say there are critical items these buildings with pools should have. an aboveground pool like this. we spoke with investigators and we learned that the in-home daycare did not have an alarm like this on the door to the pool, which is required by charles county. [alarm sounds] that is a loud alarm. it would have sounded had it been there. it would have echoed through the home. we learned that the little boy wondered onto the deck, then fell into the pool and drowned. the in-home daycare provider noticed it was missing. he was one of three little children.

cloudiness. that is the northern circulation f the hurricane once known as irma. every now and then, we have seen a sprinkled shower. maybe a few more showers toward sunrise. temperatures will drop to the 60's, but probably not much lower than that. late sunday and early monday, they were pounding savanna and jacksonville. some days could rise northwards to our area. this will eventually drift to the northeast and pass to our north and west. showers tomorrow. showers and thunderstorms thursday. the whole kit and caboodle should be out by friday. we may see a few more showers as we head to the early portions of thursday.
