making news in america this morning, breaking overnight, north korea fires another missile forcing people in japan to take cover as it flies over their country and this morning, south korea quickly responds with military drills of its own. we're live in washington with the latest. president trump is defending his response to the violence in charlottesville. hear why he says people are beginning to believe he was right when he said there were bad people on both sides. greek life is suspended on louisiana state university after a student is found dead. is this another case of hazing? the last-minute heroics in cleveland keeping the indians' record run alive.

a good friday morning. we begin with breaking news from london. reports of a subway explosion during rush hour. >> within the last few moments it happened and emergency services are on the scene which is located in west london. according to those reports several people are injured. some with burns. it is called a crude device thought to have detonated on a train. one commuter said a police officer told her to get somewhere safe. of course, we'll continue to track this breaking news coming to us from london. you see some of the early images coming in right now. it might not be a big deal but whenever you have something like this happen in london, of course, it is of alarm to many. >> understandably an investigation is already under way. we will stay on top of that for you. but now we want to take you over to the morning's other breaking news, the u.n. security council is gathering for an emergency meeting today after north korea's latest missile launch. >> that launch right

receiving worldwide condemnation. some calling it reckless, provocative and unacceptable. details from abc's lana zak. >> reporter: within minutes of north korea's missile launch south korea was firing back a warning. the south hitting a target in the east sea the same distance as the north's launch field in pyongyang sending the hermit kingdom a clear message. [ speaking a foreign language ] the south, quote, has the power to annihilate north korea according to president moon jae-in who called dialogue impossible. the north korean missile prompted alarms in japan for the second time in just 17 days. passing over the japanese island of hokkaido it landed in the pacific ocean traveling 2300 miles east. that distance is important given kim jong-un's previous threats against the american island of guam located within the strike range of that missile. but president trump speaking aboard air force onc

working with china to contain the threat and he is trying to' safe. >> reporter: u.s. secretary of state rex tillerson went even further in a statement calling out north korea's allies by name, saying china supplies north korea with most of its oil. russia is the largest employer of north korean forced labor. china and russia must indicate their intolerance for these reckless launches by taking direct actions of their own. in an emergency meeting of the u.n. security council will take place at 3:00 p.m. today. u.s. secretary of state rex tillerson says that possible sanctions represent just the floor of actions that could be taken against north korea. kendis, diane. >> that's lana zak for us live from washington. the president signed a resolution condemning white supremacists, neo-nazis and deadly violence in charlottesville. >> but discuss hours before that announcement the president revised his position suggesting both sides were to blame for the violence.

>> especially in light of the advent of antifa if you look at what's going on there you have some pretty bad dudes on the other side too and that's what i said. really what's happened since charlottesville, a lot of people are saying, in fact, a lot of people have written, gee, trump might have a point. i said you got some very bad people on the other side also, which is true? those comments came a day after the president met with senator tim scott. the senate's only black republican. scott said he told the president there was no comparison between hate groups and counterprotesters. we're getting new details about just how angry president trump was at attorney general jeff sessions for recusing himself from the russia probe. months before berating him in public the president reportedly accused sessions of disloyalty and called him an idiot and told him to resign. sources tell "the new york times" it happened at an oval office meeting when the white house found out about the

appointment of special counsel robert mueller. they say sessions turned in a resignation letter but top aides convinced the president not to accept it. sessions reportedly called the exchange the most humiliating experience of his public life. more than 24 hours after president trump dined with top democrats, it's not clear exactly what they agreed to. >> yeah, on his trip to florida, the president expressed his desire to protect young immigrants but he denied striking a deal and he insisted that he's not budging on the border wall. here's abc's cecilia vega. >> reporter: president trump in florida surveying the damage on the ground. >> we are there for you 100%. >> reporter: and talking to reporters about his bombshell support of a deal with the democrats to protect the d.r.e.a.m.ers. >> we're talking about taking care of people, people that were brought here, people that have done a good job and were not brought here of their own volition. >> reporter: it came after that white house dinner over chinese and chocolate pie with the democratic leaders he calls chuck and nancy.

cecilia vega, abc news, ft. myers, florida. and also in florida, investigators now have a warrant to search the nursing home where eight people died in the sweltering heat and we're learning more about how the tragedy unfolded. body temperatures were as high as 106 degrees after irma knocked out the air-conditioning. a head nurse at the hospital across the street checked on the nursing home after admitting three elderly residents. now, she found panicked staff scrambling to cool off dehydrated patients and triggered an evacuation. president trump will follow up on that trip to florida by visiting puerto rico and the u.s. virgin islands. both were hit hard by irma. a royal caribbean cruise ship is on a round trip aid mission and dropped 500 evacuees from st. martin to puerto rico. it was 14e7b stocked with relief supplies and will be back in st. martin today. now for a look at your weather.

tropical storm jose could regain strength and return to hurricane status over the weekend as it churns in the atlantic. the latest forecasts have it shifting west toward the u.s. before moving north. it's unlikely to come ashore but it is expected to trigger eight-foot waves and dangerous rip currents along the east coast. elsewhere it'll still feel like summer across a lot of the country. but temperatures in the 80s and 90s the 96 degrees in phoenix. 93 for dallas. 82 in new york. well, still ahead right here google facing a lawsuit from former employees. why a group of women is going after the tech giant. plus, all greek life is suspended at lsu after a student's death. see why police are investigating it as a potential hazing incident. new details about the nun made famous for using that chainsaw to help in the cleanup after irma. how she learned to use

much of the campus at uc berkeley on lockdown overnight as dozens of protesters gathered during an event featuring former breitbart editor ben shapiro. there have been four demonstrations at berkeley that have turned violent so far this year. but this one overnight police reporting few arrests. treasury secretary steve mnuchin has confirmed he did request a government plane for his european honeymoon last month but said it was a matter of having secure communication, not personal convenience. officials tell abc news that mnuchin withdrew his request after being told it would look bad for a man worth more than $300 million to ask taxpayers to foot the bill for his honeymoon travels.

class action lawsuit accusing it of second get grating female employee into lower paying jobs. a lawyer representing three female former google employees has filed for a class action status for their claim. the women say the company put them on career tracks that they say would have paid them less than their male counterparts. a federal labor investigation did find systemic gender based pay discrimination at google. but the company disputes those findings. the fallout from that massive cybersecurity breach at equifax appears to be getting worse. more than 200,000 visa and mastercard accounts were reportedly stolen in just one swoop. equifax has reportedly confirmed that. as many as 143 million americans may have been affected by the equifax hack. security experts say two months before the software breach equifax had a patch that would have prevented it but the company never installed it. preorders for apple's iphone 8 and 8 plus went live at

city since 1936. before its removal the mayor called the statue of symbol of injustice. we're getting new details surfacing in the deadly school shooting in spokane, washington, that left one student dead. >> questions are being raised about early warning signs that may have been missed including the 15-year-old shooter's troubling videos, a suicide note police say he left more than a week ago and ominous warnings to classmates. >> in the meantime, police say the boy's rampage could have been a lot worse if two people had not intervened. the first a 15-year-old fellow classmate who tried talking the shooter out of it before he was shot and killed. >> the second school custodian and air force veteran joe bowen. >> as soon as joe saw the situation, the shooter luckily had ran out of ammunition, had thrown his pistol down, went like this and joe confronted

and then held him there. >> police say the shooter told them he had been bullied and wanted to teach everyone a lesson about what happens when you bully others. he's expected to be tried as an adult. we've learned the pregnant maryland teacher who was found in a shallow grave apparently died after being shot. new details from an autopsy overnight show that laura wallen fufr suffered a gunshot wound to the head. her boyfriend is under arrest. police say they suspected tyler tessier's involvement early on in the case. so they set up this news conference with wallen's family. they wanted to see if he spoke and how he would react. tessier tearfully pleaded for wallen's safe return during that news conference. all the while holding the victim's mother's hand. and the death of lsu freshman max gruver is being investigated as a possible hazing incident a pledge at the phi delta theta fraternity.
