appearance from sean spicer. a few jaws dropped. >> yes, they did. good morning to you all. we start off with hurricane threats increasing in the caribbean and all the way up the east coast. >> right now millions are under a tropical storm watch from delaware to massachusetts as hurricane jose closes in. this is a very rare thing for parts of the northeast and hurricane maria is making its way toward the leeward islands including barbuda and st. martin. >> a number of projections as to where maria will go next but most have it passing over puerto rico, the dominican republic and haiti and also expected to gain strength. >> now, in addition to jose and maria, tropical storm lee is churning in the atlantic. busy

the most concern. this morning, the caribbean bracing for a new hit. hurricane maria gathering strength overnight and now watches and warnings posted for the same islands that got devastated by hurricane irma. >> any type of rain, any type of wind that we have as a result of maria will devastate those that are already devastated further. >> reporter: islands like barbuda and st. martin, its residents still scramblinging for food, clean water and power and now another hurricane on the doorstep with no roof overhead. >> we strong people so one day we must rise again. >> reporter: people in florida watching maria's path and the keys fully open more than a week after irma. the tens of thousands who fled the storm's wrath finally making it home to see what's left. >> it's heartbreaking and now i'll have to think about rebuilding. >> as the caribbean keeps

on the east coast will feel the effects of jose. >> gusty winds, heavy rain and beach erosion and paul williams has more. >>, good morning, diane, kendis. with jose's impact although jose expects to weaken as it gets closer to the southern new england states, we anticipate localized flooding, sporadic power outages and travel disruptions for the mid-atlantic, southern new england and throughout most of the new england states. now, we're expecting heavy sea, rough surf. coastal flooding, strong rip currents and gusty winds between 50 to 60-mile-per-hour winds as a result of jose getting close then maria ripping across those areas that are still trying to recover from irma as a category 2 over the windward islands and puerto rico and hispaniola going into friday so expect flooding and rainfall, damaging winds inundated seas and hindered recovery effort because of the storm. >> south florida will keep an

thank you. police arrested more than 80 people in st. louis during a third consecutive evening of violent demonstrations. >> large groups of protesters were out during the day with no trouble. but once night fell, protest organizers say a small number of people became violent breaking windows and damaging property. >> people displayed weapons recovered from those taken into custody. police say none of them were actually used in confrontations with authorities. >> it was sparked by a judge's decision to acquit officer jason stockley in the killing of a black man, lamar smith. >> here in new york the president returns to the world stages kicking off his week where he will attend the united nations general assembly. >> the president is hosting a meeting today on u.n. reform before addressing the assembly tomorrow for the first time. north korea and iran are expected to be major top picks of discussion. abc's arlette saenz joins us with more. >> reporter: good morning. nearly 200 world leaders will

week for the u.n. general assembly but the one leader most closely watched is president trump. president trump makes his debut at the u.n. general assembly. his most prominent moment yet on the world stage. in his hometown, the president comes face-to-face with the very organization he criticized as a candidate. >> the united nations is not a friend of democracy. it's not a friend to freedom. it's not a friend even to the united states of america. >> reporter: the president's week features back-to-back meetings with world leaders and the schedule described as speed dating from hell. the marquee moment comes tuesday when he addresses the 193-member body for the first time. at the top of the president's agenda, how to rein in north korea. >> if north korea keeps on with this reckless behavior, if the

itself or defend its allies in any way, north korea will be destroyed and we all know that and none of us want that. none of us want war. >> reporter: another issue, what will the president do about the iran nuclear deal brokered by president obama. he hinted they may pull out of the agreement which our closest allies still support. >> we have to make sure no deal can provide cover for the iranian regime to develop a nuclear weapon in a clandestine manner while reaping all the benefits of the deal. >> reporter: two leaders not attending the meeting are china's president xi jinping and vladimir putin. both of these leaders are critical in pressuring north korea but president trump won't have a chance to speak to them and share his concerns in person. diane and kendis. >> apparently both of them are not fans of speed dating as well, arlette. >> meant that in the best possible way. >> thanks. the trump administration is

embassy in cuba following a string of incidents harming americans' health. at least 21 diplomats and their families affected. some suffered permanent hearing loss and mild brain damage after feeling vibrations or hearing loud soups which investigators say could be a sonic attack. cuba has denied any involvement. let's return to our top story and take a look at your weather. the first of two new storms is coming into the northwest today bringing the first decent rainfall in months. the second arrives tomorrow night and is stronger. both should greatly help firefighting efforts in the region. temperatures in the northwest will likely top out around the 60s today. great falls will reach 64. los angeles and chicago both have highs around 78 degrees and we expect a high of 95 in dallas. 90 in new orleans but only about room temperature in the northeast.

into . four american college students have been released from the hospital after an acid attack in france. >> the women studying abroad were targeted at a train station

disturbed. abc's james longman has the details. >> reporter: the latest on four american college students recovering from an acid attack at a train station in france. police arresting a 41-year-old woman for allegedly spraying them with hydrochloric acid. two of the women rushed to the hospital suffering facial burns. the other two treated for shock. the students all attend boston college. this morning the college is returning to paris where school officials tell abc news they plan to complete their semesters abroad before returning to the u.s. >> one of the student also have to see an eye doctor tomorrow. >> reporter: while acid attacks are rare. the survivors trust international estimates there are around 1500 reports of acid attacks a year around the world. authorities in marseilles saying the alleged attacker has a history of psychological problem and don't believe it is reeled to terrorism. james longman, abc, london. meanwhile, british police have a second man in custody in connection with

bombing and the terror threat level has been lowered to severe believing another attack is likely but not imminent. police are questioning the two suspects and searching two addresses. a top british official says there is no evidence that isis was behind the attack. back in this country a memorial mass and prayer vigil will be held this evening for a louisiana state university incident for a student who died. they found a high alcohol blood content and investigating his death as a possible hazing. the local chapter suspended beth boy the phi delta theta fraternity and university. there is a warning about scammers trying to trick consumers worried about that equifax hacking scandal. federal officials say crooks claiming they want to verify account information are trying to trick people into giving out personal and financial data. the equifax hack potentially affected 143 million people nearly half the country. and when we come back kevin hart's emotional apology to

when i get a migraine at work, it's debilitating. if i call out with a migraine, that's one less ambulance to serve a community. i just don't want to let these people down. excedrin migraine. relief that works as hard as you do. looking at footage of a plane that crash landed near san diego after losing power. the single engine piper came down in the middle of the street on sunday afternoon right in front of a church. firefighters arrived to find it tilted on its side with a broken wing but pilot and passenger had already made it out safely. a former eagle scout appears in a baton rouge court accused of shooting and killing two black men. >> in each case police say the gunman fired from a car then walked up to the victims and shot them several times. 23-year-old kenneth gleason is being held on drug charges and only $3500 bond. now police say they don't

him with the killings. they believe the shootings were likely racially motivated. there were some terrifying moments at a fair in north carolina over the weekend as a worker climbed up the ferris wheel to fix a car with two kids stuck inside but then he lost his balance and fell to the ground as families watched. now, amazingly he only suffered minor injuries. the children on that ride are okay. actor kevin hart says an alleged extortion plot is the reason he posted a heartfelt statement on instagram. in the video hart apologizes for his actions to his wife and kids but never actually says what those actions are. now, hart says he would rather publicly confess than have someone gain financially because of his mistakes. hart married his wife last year. she is pregnant with their first child. 11 people are seriously injured after a crash at a car show in boise, idaho. a porsche boxster spider plowed into the crowd at the monthly cars and coffee event and witnesses s

maryland after a person with a gun was reported on campus. police sent an email to students saying someone with a handgun was spotted near frat row and the leonardtown student housing complex. officers searched for a suspect overnight. soon after, u-m-d police gave the all clear.. but say they are continuing to investigate. . turning now to the destruction left behind by hurricane irma- signs of progress in south florida. for the first time since the storm, the roads to the florida keys are fully reopened. it's been a slow process. irma's winds and storm surge so powerful, monroe county says they haven't been able to fully gauge the damage. search and rescue teams are still on the ground - searching for any victims.

hundreds of thousands of floridians are still without power, one week after the storm. after being deployed in the aftermath of both hurricanes harvey and irma - virginia's "task force one" is once again ready to help those in the line of another storm. they're in puerto rico, ahead of hurricane maria. the search and rescue team is preparing for any damage. seven is on your side with a consumer alert - a warning about an a-t-m skimmer - found in laurel. scammers use the device to steal your credit or debit card information. take a look at this skimmer found at the 7-eleven on laurel bowie road. investigators also found a tiny camera - used to steal your pin number. police remind us - when you use an a-t-m - check for obvious signs of tampering. if something looks different - don't use it. also - cover the keypad with your hand when you enter your pin number. it's xx and we're just getting started. coming up-- first harvey, then irma-- now three more named storms now churning in the atlantic ocean. what this means for the u-s-- as hurricane season
