huge storm. many of the islands in the storm path were already devastated by hurricane irma. alison: the 11:00 update from the national hurricane center just came in. let's get to meteorologist josh knight for the latest. josh: maria is a category five storm with wind around 160 miles per hour. closer to us, closer to the mid-atlantic, there is jose as well. the incredibly power, quickly gaining strength maria. you will notice the center of the storm just working its way ominica,he medico -- d making it official category five storm. the hurricane hunters clocked the wind that 160 miles per hour. when it is over land, they will not fly through the center of the eye, but they are expected to do so as it gets past the island. along with the wind, heavy rain

issue. a track on this, we have the category five over puerto rico as a four, 145 mile-per-hour wind. with the rain, mud slides also a problem. just to the east side of the bahamas come a category three. the latest track of jose coming up in just a bit. jonathan: as mentioned, residents in maria's path are racing to get ready for the storm. alison: the storm could get stronger before it slams into the british virgin islands and puerto rico. jonathan: lindsey mastis is tracking this. in some cases these folks have lost everything and are staying in makeshift shelters. escalatednd this one so fast that it is a race against time to prepare. people are boarding up their homes and businesses, but there is a different hazard as a result of the previous hurricane. residents are being asked to use anything they can that is heavy

carjacked a vdot truck that had stopped to help. that truck hit a car on 95 before the driver got out and started running. he was arrested a short time later on backlick road. nobody was seriously hurt. jonathan: neighbors are demanding change on a dangerous stretch of road. aaa says that the prince george's county part of 210 is one of the most dangerous roads in the d.c. area. tom roussey has that story. of this roadetch behind me on indianhead highway is on pace for possibly one of its deadliest years ever. the police say one of the big issues is the speed limit. people treat it like a minimum. over the last 10 years, about 60 people have died on the section of indianhead highway. >>

you can watch it live here on abc 7. jonathan: cnn is reporting that government investigators wiretapped paul manafort before and after the election. permission from the fisa court to do this. muellercounsel robert told paul manafort in july he should expect to be indicted. he is a central figure in multiple investigations into russia's election interference. overheard, a "new york times reporter said he heard an attorney talking about robert mueller's probe while eating at a d.c. steakhouse. he was hired to oversee the white house response to the special counsel. speaking of the investigation, the "new york times" reported quoted what the attorney said, "we are not hiding anything."

as this tracks north, it does not have to make landfall to see the gusty wind. therecast, as jose moves to north, just extra cloud cover around d.c., not much more than that. later inuick shower the evening, but most of the states further to the east. the rain hanging predominately in the ocean. the wind gusts will be close to 50 miles per hour closer to the beach. wednesday, the temperatures go back up. 4:00, a lot more sunshine around d.c. and it starts to feel summerlike. 27 mile-per-hour wind through the overnight at ocean city, but in the morning about 44 miles per hour. it is starting to pick up more, probably dealing with some beach erosion and definitely strong rip currents. other than fog in the morning and gusty breeze, not a bad day.
