protect their loved ones. americans dashed into a hail of bullets, to rescue total strangers. joining us today are many of the heroes who were here during that horrible moment. that horrible night. including las vegas metropolitan police officers tyler peterson and tanik urlay and civilian aaron stalker. officer peterson was on a second day on on the job when te shooting began. i just visited him in the hospital. within minutes he joined a group of officers rushing between flying bullets to clear the fairground and save lives. the other officer was off-duty attended the

although she was unarmed, as soon as the shooting began she threw on a yellow police vest and began evacuating victims. and aaron stalker, a veteran rushed to the scene to search for his loved ones. when he couldn't find them he began helping every person he could as he recounts we use the plastic barriers as gurneys to carry the injured to transportation. i made splints out of whatever i could find and used anything to stop the horrible bleeding. among the wounded was the mother of aaron's girlfriend. she is still in the hospital. we are all pulling for her. to every hero we helped, every hero saved so many lives. believe me, a grateful nation thanks you. the

the hospital and visiting so many who have been wounded in that massacre that took place sunday night in las vegas. this was him moments ago meeting now with first responders and victims and those recovering. he also spoke with doctors praising their loaf-saving effort. at -- life-saving efforts. at one point 90 emergency surgeries were conducted in one night. right now at 4:00, a search for the motive in the senseless act continues. nancy: the f.b.i. turning to gunman's girlfriend who is still a person of interest. alison: tina frost remains in a hospital tonight. she was a soccer standout in anne arundel high school. kevin lewis spoke today with a close family friend and he continues our team coverage. >> she is a good kid. kevin: amy worked alongside tina frost's mother mary for the last decade. tina and her long-time boyfriend were attending the country mus

gunfire erupted. a sole bullet striking tina's forehead. >> it went through her right eye so it came this direction. when she was shot, austin and another friend picked tina up and they carried her 300 yards. they found a pickup truck that had room on the back of it. kevin: tina's mother mary hops the first southwest flight bound for las vegas. her 27-year-old daughter currently in a coma and on a ventilator in the i.c.u. doctors have performed brain surgery and removed her right eye. her employer assisting greatly. >> they sent an h.r. person from california to basically be the family's handler throughout this week. they made all of their hotel reservations. they are making sure they have all of the meals. there is somebody on the ground whose sole job is to take care of the family.

half hour ago surrounded by friends and family. after the verdict was read inside the courtroom his supporters pumped their fist. they were crying and smiling. in august 2016, 35-year-old tyonne johns was the caterer at a park in chantilly where bond a former fairfax county park employee was managing the property. tensions were high all night long. wedding guests were angry with bonds were turning off the power and the music and taking down decorations in the party. a fight broke out and bonds stabbed tyonne johns who later died. the prosecution said it was murder but the defense called it self-defense and the jury agreed. >> well, what happened is what i said happened. the truth is what mattered and what came out. jeff: the truth is what? >> i'm

jeff: after the verdict was read, friends and family members of tyonne johns were in tears, this disbelief, shocked by the verdict. they were distraught and upset by jury's decision. we spoke to a friend of tyonne johns right outside the courthouse who said this decision in her belief was all about race. we hear from her coming up at 5:00. until then, live in fairfax county, jeff goldberg, news news. jonathan: thank you very much. we have breaking news coming in the newsroom. skytrak7 over the scene of a dump trunk crash in silver spring. it looks like it was hauling dirt. kemp mill road and randolph road. authorities say at least one person is trapped at this point. as the story does dolf stay with abc7 on air and online for updates. in the meantime, secretary of state rex tillerson denying news reports that mike pence had to talk him into staying saying he never threatened to step down or resign from the position. this is what

we look at who is giving the gift and the students who stand to benefit. brad: an amount so big it took a huge crop to roll it out. $219,486,000 to the university of maryland. cue the pep band. 1950 maryland grad clark made a fortune destructing buildings, including more than 2 dozen on the maryland college park campus. he gave to the school for years. the college of engineering is named for him. he died two years ago. and now his wife and children say this gift from the family foundation will be his legacy. >> he was given an opportunity to come here on a scholarship and he wanted to give back. that same opportunity to the promising young students in the state of maryland. >> the money will be used to fund scholarships for outstanding engineering students with limited means. graduate fellowships and faculty chairs. maryland

targeting swing states to try to help donald trump get elected. this week, facebook announced it turned over thousands of russian-linked ads to congress after selling $100,000 in ads to fake russian accounts during and after the presidential election. abc news obtaining some of the ads. congressional investigators say the russians planted including this anti-immigration one with the line, "we need to stop this madness. we need trump." >> we have more work to do as it relates to collusion but we are developing a clearer picture of what happened. >> officials announced this investigation has expanded to include reviews of attorney general jeff sessions' possible meeting with russian official and the firing of former f.b.i. director james comey. in northwest, i'm elizabeth hur, abc news. nancy: suburban detroit mother ordered to spend a week in jail for refusing to have her 9-year-old son vaccinated.

jonathan: like he didn't have time to be scared it happened so fast. a man shot in a robbery is speaking out. michelle: he said the guys who did it looked like high school students. nancy: stephen tschida has the incredible story. stephen? stephen: fabian malone just walked out of a bar here early sunday morning at 7th street. the heart of the shaw neighborhood. he rounded the corner on q street. he ran into four kids. seconds later, he was on the ground, bleeding from a gunshot wound. >> the gunshot wound and basically my forearm and exit in my bicep here.

michelle: prosecutors in florida seek death penalty of for killing the wife of a man she would eventually marry and she did it dressed like a clown. shiela warren has been extradited from addington, virginia, where she lived with her husband. investigators say marlene warren was shot by a blown delivering flowers and balloons in 1990. jonathan: last week we showed you this sign in frederick keeping a tally of how many people overcome or fallen victim to the opioid overdoses in frederick. cheryl conner reports it comes for heavy part's as someone is updating the sign and the number is not going down. karen miller and beth schmidt are back at the billboards. the numbers they carry are plastic but there is nothing safe about the lives they represent. >> brain are hijacked by
