of disgraced movie mogul harvey weinstein on the streets of los angeles with police on the scene. the lapd tells abc news they were called to the area involving a dispute between him and his daughter. no arrests were made. meanwhile authorities are left asking why he was not prosecuted during a sting operation. >> why you touch my breasts? >> oh, please, i'm sorry, i'm used to that. >> you a're used to that? >> reporter: the manhattan d.a. defended its decision not to prosecute. >> obviously he has some serious issues and the tape is terrible. but we have to be guided by the evidence and the evidence of the crime. >> reporter: now hollywood is hush-hush no more. similar stories shared by 20 women who say they were sexually

>> he comes back out and is completely naked. and that's when i thought just, what is happening? how is this happening? and what is he going to do to me? >> reporter: many are asking how this culture of complicity was able to exist for so long. actor seth mcfarlane says he knew about this for years and meant this at the oscars as a jab more than a joke. >> you ladies no longer have to pretend to be attracted to harvey weinstein. >> reporter: saying it came from a place of loathing and anger after his friend, jessica bart said she had been sexually harassed by weinstein in 2011. weinstein has been fired and denies any allegations of non-consensual sex. ben affleck called the actions sick, but then rose mcgowan tweeted bac

and now georgina chapman tells " "people" magazine she is leaving her husband. meanwhile, the board claims they had no idea about the allegations. linsey davis, abc news, new york. and while the board maintains no idea about the allegations, the "new york times" is reporting that the board knew about three or four settlements that weinstein had with women and knew that back in 2015. now a board member is acknowledging that part of it but saying that they thought those settlements were for consensual affairs. >> which they thought was a normal thing because he had been in a ten-year marriage at the time. but you have to have thought this is the worst-kept secret in hollywood. you would have thought the board knew something about it or at least his brother bob who's right there on the board. >> they're certainly asking a lot of questions about that now and the times will keep digging as we will

california. they are claiming more lives and consuming thousands of homes as more people are forced to evacuate. >> new evacuation orders were issued for entire towns, giving many residents just minutes to pack up what they could and get out. the death toll has climbed now to at least 23. hundreds remain unaccounted for and officials say the worst is far from over. you look at these images, hard to even tell what you're looking at. but those are where homes once stood. abc's maggie rulli is in santa rosa. >> reporter: many people here in santa rosa were in such a rush to evacuate when those wildfires rolled in that now they are left desperately searching for their loved ones. firefighters on the front line up against 22 wildfires still burning in california are being pushed to the limit. nearly helpless against the wind. >> it's going to continue to get worse before it gets better. >> reporter: even three days after the flames ignited they are still unable to gain

everything at them. this video from the sonoma county sheriff's office showing firefighters driving into the fire, saving others while their own homes burned. >> we have at least a dozen guys that have lost their homes. gone. and they're here, saving other peoples' homes. >> reporter: at least3500 structures have been damaged or destroyed so far. that number is expected to rise. >> it's crazy. you drive down nearly any street in santa rosa and you just come across non-stop devastation. entire neighborhoods that have been completely destroyed. for so many who wandered back, they're finding nothing left. residents describing it as a war zone. as the fire threat looms, officials now going door to door in calistoga, right in the heart of wine country, telling any residents left there to get out. >> everybody says it's the wind that's going to come our way, and we, you know, might, might end up losing

for miles, all of it in just one direction. out. and with dozens of cell towers burned down, families now desperately trying to reach their loved ones. authorities saying nearly 300 are still on the missing list. high winds and dry air are back in the region, and many worry that firefighters could be up against another fierce fight and that communities like this one could face even more devastation. diane and kendis? >> and maggi, we're going to follow up on what you're saying there. these hours as we speak could be critical in the fight against the flames as the winds pick up. >> let's turn to accuweather's justin povick for more on the conditions expected today. >> kendis and diane, thank you, and good morning to you. a very, very dangerous situation continuing in the golden state of california. notice where we have the red flag warning through this evening, running to the sacramento valley, especially on the western side, that's where we're going to see the most

wealthy and he's getting push back from republicans in high-tax states whose constituents would be hurt. and the president is denying a report that he talked about wanting a major increase in the nation's nuclear arsenal. according to nbc he made that statement at a pentagon meeting in july. the president slammed that report but said he did want the weapons to be modernized but also suggest thad networks who report what he calls fake news should have their fcc licenses pulled. north korea weighing in saying president trump lit a fuse of war dieuring his september spee to the united nations. that report from a russian news agency also quoting the foreign minister as saying north korea would settle the final score with only a hail of fire, not words. mohammad ali enterprises has filed a $30 million lawsuit against fox

these riding teams are now in prison after a riding spree across london. they targeted more than 100 people, snatching cell phones and other possessions often using hammers and tire irons. they're expected to spend more than six years behind bars. and now actions are taken on two officers who fired on a suspicious vehicle. >> police have just released dash cam and body cam video of that incident. here's eva pilgrim. >> reporter: dramatic new video showing police officers approaching a car in a seattle neighborhood. then opening fire as the car pulls out. the officers coming to the scene after a neighbor reported a

suspicious vehicle. >> hey, seattle police! >> reporter: body cam video shows the same incident from a different perspective, officers running to the car, the car beginning to pull out. one officer's hand on it the seattle pd says the driver attempted to strike the officers and then the car stops, briefly. then a second round of gunfire. before the vehicle disappears. both officers now on paid administrative leave which is standard practice. authorities found that vehicle a day after the incident. they are still looking for the people who were inside but say there's no reason to think that they were seriously hurt. eva pilgrim, abc news, new york. coming up, sexual harassment in the workplace. >> with harvey weinstein's scandal shining a light on the issue, we're going to hear from some of the many women who aren't in hollywood who say they've dealt with it as well. that's next on "world news now."

don't get too emotional. that's the new word for sexism and think put you down. >> but if you say anything you're emotional because you're a woman. >> reporter: then this shocking drop in hands. how many of you filed an hr request against your harasser? but isn't hr supposed to be the safe place to report harassment? >> typically the women are younger, they may be in a socioeconomic status that means they're very dependent on their job and perpetrators know this and in fact prey on them and count on their silence. >> i sort of silenced myself. in that moment i felt like there's an erasure of yourself. >> i have to really think about my values and what's important to me and weigh them against my career. >> it's still hard for women and men who have been victims of sexual harassment to really talk about it, which really speaks to how much we stigmatize victims and the goal is to empower women to speak up, which means that the perpetrators need very severe consequences.
