with capital murder. he appeared in court this morning where we learned a public defender will now yield the case to a capital defender. that attorney will be selected group capital defenders in richmond. breaking news in montgomery county, police have arrested and charged a guidance counselor at albert einstein high school with two counts of sexual assault. investigators say in both cases, he assaulted the women after they had consensual sex. we contacted montgomery county public schools for an update on his employment status. the search is on for the driver who hit a montgomery county police officer in the middle of traffic and did not stop. thenne kennedy has more on injuries the officer sustained and the hunt for the person behind the wheel. look ova

place last night in the southbound lanes of new hampshire avenue. it was around 10:30 p.m. when a district officer was stopping a motorist here. a second officer pulled over to assist in the traffic stop, and that is when the southbound car struck one of the police officers, resulting in the officer being injured. the 28-year-old female officer was taken to the hospital and treated for nonlife threatening injuries. she has been released. the driver of the striking vehicle did not stop. authorities have not released a description of the car they are looking for. in silver springs, suzanne kennedy, abc 7 news. a nasty accident in potomac has left two people dead. a car struck a tree shortly before midnight on democracy boulevard. the driver and a passenger were killed. still no word at this hour on what caused the accident. to get all the latest on

gainsborough road. police got the call around 11:40 p.m. last night. when they got on scene, they found a 2011 audi wrapped around a tree and on fire. police say ken brooks lost control and ran off the road. brooks and his passenger, kathleen french, both died on scene. car caught on fire. democracy boulevard was shut down for nearly seven hours as investigators and a tow truck work to clear the scene. traffic is moving once again, but it's unclear why brooks ran off the road and lost control. montgomery police are asking for witnesses. if you were out here around midnight last night and saw the accident, you are urged to give them a call. ryan, abc seven news. adrianna: for the latest on all of these developing stories, be sure tge
