their homes for a third night all because of one fire. at first glance that fire at promenade towers appears relatively small. it doesn't look like much from that angle but we are learning that the fire effects are far reaching. q mccray is live at the shelter with those impacted by this. q: i found out 1,100 people were forced out of their homes and 13 of them will sleep here in the red cross shelter in silver spring. they are allowed to return home to the apartment in the day but they can't sleep there at night. >> it has been an interesting experience. >> he has called the red cross shoter home from saturday since flames tore through the base and floor. >> he said he heard the explosion underneath them. >> the transformer, knocking out not only the power but the major utilities in

promenade apartments north tower. 5 50 units were forced to evacuate. many made their own accommodations. others were bused five miles away to the shelter in silver spring. >> they are doing as well as can be expected. we are feeding them and providing shelter. they seem to do well. >> montgomery county is helping with the showers and confirmed 13 evacuees slept here. >> everybody has been kind and helpful. i didn't know how good people can be. q: none of the apartments were burned and no one was seriously hurt. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. i'm told tonight it could be until next week monday before evacuees are allowed to return to the

how long it will take to make necessary repairs in the transformer room. that is the latest tonight in silver spring, i'm q mccray, abc7 news. jonathan: thanks. the latest indictment against school aid in charles county includes new charges and additional victims. carlos bell who has hiv accused of sexually abusing and reporting more than 40 students at the middle school from 2008 to this year. it includes charges from two previous indictments filed over the summer. prosecutors said there is no indication that any teen tested positive for hiv. he is in custody ahead of the trial scheduled for january. michelle: this man is accused of killing three people and wounding three others in a multistate shooting spree. prosecutors want the maximum sentence for radee prince. he will first face trial in

delaware. the sheriff there said prince believed his coworkers hated him. senate senator for montgomery county says this is a perfect example of why maryland needs to bring back the death penalty. the senator says he will introduce legislation to do that next year using heroin and fentanyl as legal injection drugs. last year more than 700 people died in maryland using a mixture of the two powerful opioids. jonathan: traffic for the interstate 95 express lane in virginia. starting tuesday the 31st, the lones will be longer. h.o.v. and toll lane are extended from the route 610 exit to a mile past the interchange. vdot hopes it will ease a bottleneck that slowed traveler since the express lane first opened in 2014.

as a former tool plant continues to burn tonight. the building was filled with plastic when it caught fire friday night sending thick smokes for miles. the conditions are so bad in fact the county canceled school for the day. hospitals are seeing a surge of people coming in with breathing problem. jonathan: criminal charges filed tonight against a world series hero turned baseball analyst. the police arrested ray knight sunday morning after they say he got in a fight in his home. police are not elaborating on the details but he spent 13 years in the majorrers and scoring the winning run in game six of the 1986 world series. he knocked in the winning run to give the mets the title one day later. michelle: caught on video, a college professor body slams in a debate over collective garbaging. you can see him arguing with the board. second later an officer comes up behind

you see him there. the professor tries to escape and he ends up on the ground. he wasn't seriously hurt but he says it's evidence the police need more training. they called the actions appropriate. >> the florida couple shot the shock of their live when they opened an amazon order. normally that's a fun time. this was different, though, because inside they found containers they wanted but in the containers 65, pounds of marijuana. they called the police who were also shot. while the discovery sounds amusing the couple who asked to be identified said it was anything but. >> we were fearful that the home would be broken into. we didn't sleep there for a few days. the police are investigating how the drugs ended up in their package. in the meantime, the amazon gave them $150 gift card as an apology. really?

president trump: joining me in welcoming captain rose to the white house. jonathan: captain rose is a hero. the veteran you see standing there is the newest recipient of the medal of honor. as an army medic, he is credited with saving the lives of 60 comrades in a four-day intensive battle that took place in laos. now rose was originally recommended for the honor decades ago but because the mission was covert and in laos, the details of what happened and his heroism remain classified for years. michelle: the pregnant widow of army sergeant la david johnson says congresswoman frederica wilson and the
