gun. the "7 on your side" i-team is trying to find out how he got one. nathan baca has that start of the story. nathan: we're asking the same questions all day today. here is what we know about how the law should have stopped the gun purchase. the law says person receiving dishonorable discharge prohibited from having a gun. but he received a lesser bad conduct discharge. in 2012, according to the airport, the law says anybody serving more than a year in prison for a crime is forbidden for having a gun. kelley was sentenced for a year in military prison for abusing his wife and child. anyone convicted of misdemeanor violence is prohibited having a gun. we asked if the background check missed conviction. >> the military has their own way to handle how things are disclosed or taken forward to the f.b.i. for example and included the

we are tracking showers and moderate rain around the region. this is not widespread but the individual cells. they are not tall. not severe thunderstorms they are putting down decent rainfall. you are heading to gaithersburg here, montgomery county, maybe a little bit of the small hail in that as well. around recommend recommend. the pockets north of culpeper, moderate rainfall. little bit of hail. moving east at 25 miles per hour. we look at the shot, though, and temperature wise 67 degrees. in addition if you walk outside you will feel humidity out. so there is no, ma'am moisture for the atmosphere to work with. we will keep the temperatures in the 60's at 7:00. 57 by 9:00. 56 at 11:00. i don't have the rain icon on there. not everybody is getting it. but the pockets roll through over the next few hours, you want to be safe and you might want the umbrella with you. they will pass by and then not much going on in terms of rain. temperatures as you mention is a major

stephen: shortly afterward the police started to canvass the area. it did not take long to locate the stolen nissan maxima. they found it in the 1400 of w street in northeast d.c. only a mile from where it was stolen. larry: hopefully the baby is back home and i hope the people who did the crime got caught. stephen: >> they found the littleboy and the car but no sign of the suspect. alison: thank you. an update to a story we brought you at 4:00 today. all lanes of the beltway at van dorn are now back open. look at this. this is what happened. two lanes shut down for most of the afternoon after this truck burst into flames. it was about 1:00 this afternoon when this happened. we are told no one was hurt. larry: wow! covering metro

this is putting down moderate rainfall. traffic will be backed up. this is remington and it has heavy rainfall return. there has been a cloud-to-ground lightning strike reported. looking at the returns they come on at six to seven inches per hour. there is little hail along this. this will extend 20 miles. it's pouring out there right now but it will pass. it is attached to a cold front that is going to alter the weather story.

albums brings back memory of a life well lived. >> very sophisticated. and a gracious lady. kellye: she is talking about her mother who is in the maryland history book. >> i want to make a good impression on outside people. that since i am the first of this and the first of that. >> the retired educator is the granddaughter of slaves. she received a bachelor degree in education at hampton institute in virginia and master's degree at boston university. after the 1954 supreme court decision that desegregated public schools, clark became one of the first african-american teachers to educate white children. >> it was shaky at times. i said to myself, i'm going to do this. >> in 1962, the board of education selected clark as the first african-american teacher

the suspect's injury are not life threatening. the other driver was not hurt. alison: massive audit of the grade fixing allegation in prince george's county. brad: the hours after the scathing report was made public friday, the chair sent this letter to board members demanding the investigation citing the board rules. he asked for all whistle blower information, elected members edward burroughs and david murray may process and threatened action if they didn't turn it over by 12:00 noon today. burroughs remains defiant. >> it feels like they are trying to make an example out of us.

it got "7 on your side"'s attention last spring. so we planted a bait car and we caught thieves on hidden camera. it was shocking video of the break-ins in broad daylight. look at that. after the reports air there was a flurry of police activity in the neighborhood. now "7 on your side" goes back for a check-in. has everything changed there? here is i-team reporter scott taylor. scott: "7 on your side" under cover. this past spring, capturing three alarming daylight smash-and-grabs in northwest d.c. >> those are the guys right there. >> the i-team helped police track down two suspects who were then arrested. we are back in the same neighborhood. are smash-and-grabs still an issue? >> i lived here for five years. in the last two and a half years my car has been broke into three times. scott: the fake car back on the street. over several hours we waited but nobody broke in. a huge difference from the
