breaking news alert. >> as we come on the air, a minor miracle playing out on a highway. after a plane crashes to a busy road. adult, two children escape unharmed. believe it or not. skytrak7 over the scene as the sun set minutes ago. the crews remove the main piece of the fuselage, what is left of it from the ramp southbound interstate 97 to route 655. kevin lewis on the scene with what the pilot just said before crashing that plane. >> this took off around 3:00 this afternoon. shortly after taking off the plane which belongs to a flight school lost the thrust. the pilot tried to land at the closest airport but couldn't make it. crashed to the onramp and veered down the grassy embankment where i stand now and left

guardrail. the pilot declared an emergency moments before. this was the conversation with the air traffic control courtsy of live htc.net. >> make an emergency landing. >> say again? >> declaring an emergency. >> what is the nature of your emergency? >> declare emergency. >> that pilot plus two children on board not only able to walk away from the crash alive but uninjured. remarkable. live in anne arundel county, i'm kevin lewis. abc7 news. nancy: miracle. thank you. in the other big story tonight, dangerous cold weather sweeping through the area. jonathan: if you have been outside you know it's chilly. it will get colder.

winter blast. exactly how low is this going to go? bill: 26 officially which is the record for tomorrow. some of the outlying spots are low 20's in the teens. the number you want to dress for is feels like temperature because it's still breezy outside. the ten to the 20-mile-per-hour winds knocking the number down below freezing. this is one of the warmer spots. that is reagan national. if you look at the other temperatures, the air temperature, not the wind chill. down to 30 at winchester. culpeper is 35. quantico at 38. with the wind chill values considerably less than that. how about a 25 out near chantilly, dulles, frederick at 29. baltimore at 27. the numbers are staying that way in terms of the wind chill factor. the evening forecast then, next few hours, skies are clear. you don't worry about the rain or snow. but you do have to layer up big-time.

the women behind the counter. they all come together and they hang on to it. >> this is the latest crime fighting tool. stafford county sheriff department. they are using a drone to chase down people who are wanted criminals. q mccray shows us how it is working. q: the stafford county deputies took to the sky this morning using a drone to find a suspect on the run. >> the suspect was wanted on a felony probation violation. >> the deputies say around 2:00 this morning they noticed the suspect inside this 7-eleven. they say he made a run for it. cross the street here and ran behind the businesses near the intersection of arrowhead and garrisonville. that is when they called in

drones. each one costs $2,000. once they add thermal imaging and the other programs, they are worth $20,000. >> it serves as the eye in the sky. it can see what the officers on the ground do not. >> the agency started the drone program in the spring. since then, they have helped in arresting three suspects and finding a missing mountain view high school student in september. there are rules to follow. according to virginia law unless they are searching for a missing person, law enforcement must have a warrant to use drones to look for suspects. >> to nick fog cut the search short and the suspect is still on the loose. stafford, q mccray, abc7 news. angling over to southeast 8edth. jonathan: must-see video of a wild chase in oklahoma. for more than two hours the police chase a stolen truck, on road, offroad and even the driver was on facebook live. >> hey! >> at one point the driver jumped out and pulls a tool box out of the back of his truck to lighten the load. some unknown guy pulls up in a small car and tries to box them in. as he is getting away in the truck, the other driver pulls a gun and opens fire. shooting out a tire. that didn't end it. at one point the driver jumps out and rips out the shirt and sits in a standoff with the police for an hour. then when the police try to

truck over a fence. but eventually crashes backwards into a pond. he then jumps out and he runs for it, as if he would get away. the officer close enough. one gets in the range with a stun gun to let him have it. the next time we see the guy is when he goes on trial. nancy: shocking moments caught on camera in seattle where a man in a pickup truck becomes a victim of a biker gang's rage. >> the group surrounded the man's pickup truck. when he got out to confront them, they started beating him. that lasted a minute before the group sped off in the different directions. this happened in august, but the police have not identified the bikers because they were wearing helmets. >> this is just in. mistrial after the jury deadlocked in the first trial from the shocking texas biker shootout. nine people in all killed in 2015. a huge gunfight.

scott: hello, everybody. i'm scott abraham live at hayfield high school in alexandria, virginia. it is cold, it is breezy. this is playoff football, my friends. take a look. we have hayfield warming up. they are the abc7 high school game of the week. the hawks ready to take on hilton tonight. go on the opposite side of the field. hilton in the golden helmets looking like notre dame out here. let me tell you, if you like offense. this is the game to watch. the regular season hawks average 39 points a game and bulldogs had 48 points per game. defense might be optional in this one. both teams playing good football right now.
