in the battle of the bulge when france was liberated. he was shot and taken as a prisoner for one week. then the allied forces came and he was released. he never liked to talk about it too much. bernie is a veteran of both the navy and the army. so proud that after he served in the navy, he reenlisted in the army. melissa: he got the idea doing what he loves to do, run. >> a few weeks ago i did i have to marathon. those are 13 miles. those whoe remembered passed away in recent years and also runs in honor of all men and women who serve their country. >> they are not here to tell their story, and it's a wonderful story of fighting for their country, camaraderie, support, and doing something they love.
