good morning, i'm diane macedo. the republicans' massive tax reform bill heads to the senate after being passed in the house. a tough battle is expected in the next round as one republican has already come out against the senate version. a massive fire spreads through a senior living community in philadelphia overnight. at least 20 people are injured and dozens others are left with no place to stay. the university of south carolina's women's basketball team will not be attending today's white house event honoring college smorts champions. the team's coach says they

until just yesterday. dawn staley complained about not being invited to the white house for an event with the white house. and the mu team of the bible opens today in washington, d.c. the private $800 million museum features artifacts collected by the family that controls the hobby lobby retail chain. it's located near the national mall. those are some of our top stories on this friday, november 17. from abc news, this is "world news now." we begin this morning this half hour with a win for republicans. the house has passed its version of a massive tax reform measure. gop lawmakers cheered once the vote count was announced. but now it's on to the senate where it's expected to get more difficult. some republicans in that chamber have expressed reservations about the plan. president trump is putting on the pressure to win them over. here's cecelia vega. >> reporter: president trump brought his art of the deal to capitol hill making a pitch for a tax reform bill he so desperately needs.

at the end of his closed-door meeting with house republicans he told them, i love you, now go vote. and they did, giving him that small victory on a bill that would add $1.4 trillion to the deficit over ten years while decreasing the number of tax brackets and deductions. but in the senate, his tax reform plan still hangs in the know, my reaction was just sort of, you know, i push his chest away with my hands and i'm like, if you ever do that to me again, i was so angry, i was in disbelief. >> reporter: the now senator penned an apology writing the first and most important thing is i'm sorry and there's no excuse. i look at it now and i feel disgusted with myself. it isn't funny. it's completely inappropriate. it's obvious how leeann would feel violated. they're calling for an ethics investigation. >> this kind of conduct should not be toler

>> reporter: they come at the end of a week of headlines dominated by alabama senate candidate roy moore accused of sexual misconduct against teenage girls on twitter he argued mitch mcconnell has been harder on him than franken. and president trump who has ignored questions about moore -- >> should roy moore resign, mr. president? >> reporter: quickly tweeted about the democratic senator writing, the al frankenstein picture is really bad, speaks a thousand words. where do his hands go in pictures, two, three, four, five and six while she sleeps? tweeden says she accepts franken's apology and for his part franken says he's fully supportive of the calls for an ethics investigation and will gladly cooperate. >> thank you. we heard from the president speaking out against al franken but not have heard from him directly on the moore case. >> speaking of the moore case a new poll reflects the allegations against him starting to erode his support. >> the fox news poll

trailing doug jones by eight points. just last month they were tied. moore came out swinging against his accusers during an appearance with religious leaders and called their claims fake and didn't stop there. >> they're not only untrue, but they have no evidence to support them. i'll quit standing when they lay me in that box and put me in the ground. >> reporter: alabama's republican party is standing by moore. white house press secretary sarah sanders says the president thinks the allegations against moore are very troubling but believes the people of alabama should decide who their next senator should be. house republicans are celebrating a major 1rik9ry passing their version of the first tax reform bill in three decades. president trump went to capitol hill to gain support for the overhaul. it wound up passing mostly along party lines, although 13 republicans voted against the measure. the debate over the tax plan in the senate, well, that turned angry overnight but with some critics say does too much to help the rich and that

$75,000 or less will see a tax increase. the senate judiciary committee wants answers and e-mails from presidential adviser and son-in-law jared kushner. the panel has given kushner ten days to produce more documents connected to the russia investigation and concern wikileaks and contacts with russian officials. the committee says e-mails that kushner provided so far are incomplete. the senate expected to resume an ethics investigation into bob menendez now that his corruption case has ended in a mistrial. after days of deliberating jurors were just deadlocked. prosecutors accuse the new jersey democrat of accepting gifts from a doctor for political favors. he says the gifts were part of a longtime friendship. to the breaking news from philadelphia, a massive fire at a nursing home in the suburbs there. flames burning through the night destroying several buildings, dozens of residents were forced out in the cold. many of them in wheelchairs. the update moments ago, at least 20 people were injured. no word yet on the cause. an urgent manhunt is under way

baltimore. 18-year veteran shawn suitor has died after he was shot in the head. police say suitor was on a homicide investigation when he saw a man acting suspiciously. the suspect then opened fire as he approached. sutter leaves behind a wife and five children and investigators say the suspect may have been wounded. a massive cleanup under way at the controversial keystone pipeline after there was a leak of more than 200,000 gallons of oil in south dakota. crews shut down the pipeline and the cause of the leak is being investigated. authorities say oil has not entered any waterway, they say. now, the fill comes just days or before nebraska decides whether a sister project, the keystone xl pipeline can proceed. time for a look at your weather on this friday morning. good morning, while we did have a storm in the pacific northwest, but the good news is high pressure is moving in. so things quieting down here, i

20-people have been rushed to a hospital after this fire at a senior living community in west chester. the fire started just before eleven last night and sent flames shooting from the roof. dozens more are displaced. our suzanne kennedy is heading to the scene and will have a live report in our five o'clock hour. developing now..

searching for seven women in connection with a theft at a jewelry store in falls church. it happened friday at b-t jewelers. the suspects were captured on surveillance video. the store's owner says six of the women distracted him, while the other woman found an unlocked safe. she allegedly took 200-thousand dollars worth of jewelry and cash, and hid the items under her long skirt. the store's owner is offering a five-thousand dollar reward for information leading to an arrest. we're learning more about the arrests of 214 suspected m-s-13 gang members, which federal officials announced this week. ice officials say 38 of the arrests were made in maryland and virginia. the suspects are accused of everything from being in the country illegally.. to murder. we spoke with a man who spent 40 years in law enforcement.. many of them going after gangs in prince george's county. he says ms-13 gang members are in all 50 states.
