our studio. excited to have them here flying all night. do you know what jordan said he's going to put that mirror ball trophy? >> where? >> right in the middle of his thanksgiving table. >> he traveled all through the night. millions traveling today. live on the roads at the airports and train stations on what you can expect. right to that breaking news, rescue crews searching for survivors after that navy plane crashed on its way to an aircraft carrier in the pacific ocean. this morning, good news at least eight people have been found alive. so let's go right to our senior national correspondent matt gutman for the latest. good morning, matt. >> reporter: hey, good morning, robin. incredibly the navy is saying that the eight personnel recovered are in good condition. but there's no word about the other three on board that plane which typically ferries supplies and people to carriers. now, that giant naval exercise between the u.s. and japan has turned into a very real

and rescue operation. the japanese navy is also assisting. nour, the incident happened 500 miles off of okinawa and is already being investigated according to the navy. it's the third possibly deadly incident involving the u.s. seventh fleet in just the past six months, robin. >> we're thinking of those three still missing. all right, matt, thank you very much. >> we are. now to president trump breaking his silence to back alabama senate candidate roy moore. the president who's faced more than a dozen allegations of sexual assault and harassment dismissed them and attacked his democratic rival. cecilia vega has the latest. >> reporter: good morning to you. 12 days after the roy moore allegations first surfaced, president trump is finally weighing in and he is saying essentially that he would rather see roy moore, an accused child molester win this senate seat than a democrat. overnight roy moore went on tv in alabama to issue a full-throated denial. >> i

relationships, any -- engage in any sexual misconduct with an overage woman. it's very hurtful not only to my family but reputation because this is something that you just don't do. >> reporter: this as his campaign for senate celebrates a big boost from the white house. >> we don't believe these women. but we're not going to talk about that. we're going to talk about helping donald trump making america great again. >> should roy moore resign, mr. president? >> reporter: the president finally broke his silence coming to his defense. >> what is your message to women, sir, during this pivotal moment in our country where we're talking about sexual misconduct? you've had your own allegations against you. what do you say to women? >> let me just tell you, roy moore denies it. that's all i can say. he denies it and, by the way, he totally denies

>> reporter: and attacking his democratic opponent doug jones. >> we don't need a liberal person in there, a democrat, jones, i've looked at his record. it's terrible on crime. >> reporter: now the president was also asked if he would campaign for roy moore. he left open that possibility, george. he said he would get back to us on that one next week. >> yeah, and, cecilia on sunday his assistant was telling us the fact that the president wasn't campaigning for moore was a sign he wasn't questioning the women's accounts. very sharp evolution in the white house story over the last week. >> reporter: exactly. a real evolution. you know for days the white house party line has been this should be up to the alabama voters to decide. ivanka trump was one of the first to come forward and say she essentially believes roy moore's accusers and kellyanne conway basically said what the president said yesterday, she bashed the democrat in this race. in the end it seems the president sided with her and, of course, steve bannon, george, and sticking with roy moore. >> yeah, and sticking with his base. okay, cecilia vega, thanks very much. >> george, as

misconductallegations, on capitol hill others. senator al franken facing a second accuser who spoke exclusively with abc news this morning. our chief national correspondent tom llamas. you sat down with her >> that's right. we just wrapped up that interview moments ago. this mother of three tells me she's speak out publicly because she wanted the first accuser to be believed and let her know she's not alone. >> i was surprised and kind of wondering like did that really just happen? >> reporter: for the first time on camera 33-year-old lindsay menz is detailing how she says senator al franken violated her when they took this photo together at the minnesota state fair. >> you're going to take a photo with senator franken. what happens? >> so my husband steps away from us to take the photo. i stand next to senator franken and he pull me in toward him and moves his hand to my butt. >> and you thought. >> i was shocked. >> reporter: in a statement franken, a democrat saying i take t

state fair surrounded by hundreds of people. and i certainly don't remember taking this picture. i feel badly that ms. menz came away from our interaction feeling disrespected. menz's story comes days after radio host leeann tweeden said franken forcibly kissed her and took this photo groping her while the two were working together on a uso tour. the minnesota senator has apologized to tweeden and said he welcomes an ethics investigation but says he is not resigning. >> last night -- >> reporter: this as an ethics investigation is under way into sexual harassment allegations against representative john conyers, the longest serving member of the house and a civil rights icon. buzzfeed reporting two different women accused the detroit congressman of sexual misconduct. in the first case conyers reached a settlement with a former employee who said he repeatedly asked for sexual favors. during one everyone counter the woman told buzzfeed conyers insisted she come to his hotel room and,

with me and caress me before you go. buzzfeed reporting the case ended with a confidentiality agreement in exchange for a settlement of more than $27,000. the payout money coming from conyers' congressional budget. in that case conyers says he expressly and vehemently denied the allegations. the second involving his longtime scheduler. in court documents obtained by abc news, the woman accused representative conyers of lingering touches. repeatedly rubbing her shoulders and blowing kisses at her. but the former employee dropping her case after a judge rejected her request to seal the case to protect privacy. now, this morning the detroit free press is calling on conyers to resign. as for franken, 36 current and former cast and crew from "snl" have signed a letter supporting him. the statement starts with, what al did was stupid and foolish but they go on to write, after years of working with him, we would like to acknowledge that not one of us ever experienced any inappropriate behavio

mention our sincere appreciation that he treated each of us with the utmost respect and regard. >> the second accuser you just spoke to, does she believe he should resign? >> well, she doesn't live in minnesota anymore so that's for the voters to decide. she said there was another politician at that same event. when she asked for a photo the politician said is it okay if i put my arm around you and checked if with her husband. the complete opposite of al franken. new video showing a north korean soldier defecting to south korea. you see him first driving then running for his life as bullets fly. he was hit but made it across the border alive and our chief global affairs anchor martha raddatz is in washington with the story. good morning, martha. >> reporter: good morning, george. we've talked so much about threats from north korea's leaders about its missiles and bombs you can forget about the terrible conditions in which the people live. this north korean soldier was just 24 years old, but it's clear from the video this was a desperate dash to

military jeep speeding past checkpoints heading towards the border with south korea. inside, the soldier bent on defecting as he gets closer to the demilitarized zone north korean soldiers reacting from their post scrambling towards the vehicle. once the jeep crashes into a ditch near the line that divides the two nations, he sets out on foot running as the north korean guards begin shooting, dozens of rounds fired at the defector. even as he crosses that crucial line to freedom. >> at some point there the north korean soldiers see him and see what he's doing and start firing at him. multiple rounds and hitting him and he still survives enough to crawl to safety to get behind a wall. >> reporter: critically wounded shot five or six times, heat signature from cameras show two south korean security forces crawling towards the defector to

carry him out and evacuate him to a nearby medical center. >> here is this man who risked everything that was willing to take bullets to escape the repression, the murderous repression of the kim jong-un regime and the north. >> reporter: in addition to the bullet wounds he had severe parasitic infections likely from water or food that was contaminated. doctors describe him as shy and in a bit of shock but say he is doing better, george. >> okay. thank goodness for that. martha raddatz, thanks very much. >> chilling. >> very dramatic. we go now to the holiday travel rush. millions hitting the road and take a look at chicago. they're seeing some of the worst traffic so far. a abc's alex perez is at a traffic control center and how is it looking out there? >> reporter: hey, good morning, michael. that's right. one of the traffic nerve centers in the chicago area. check it out. take a look at those screens behind me. officials are already keeping a close eye on the roads. now, as you mention, chicago has seen some of the worst traffic

specifically in atlanta and houston, this afternoon and this evening, they will be dealing with some severe gridlock but it's not just there across the country a record 45.5 million motorists getting on the roads, the most we've seen since 2005. as far as the price of gas the national average is up 18% so that means motives will be paying some $800 million more this year compared to last year. michael. >> all right. thank you, alex. everybody is trying to get where they're trying to go and does not restrict itself to just car travel. trains and buses are being used this morning as well and abc's erielle reshef is at penn station here in new york and what can you expect, erielle? looks like it's starting to get crowded out there. >> reporter: yeah, michael, it's safe to say thanksgiving travel rush is well under way here at penn station definitely starting to pick up. more than 750,000 customers rode the rails to the thanksgiving feast last year. similar demand expected this year and if you're hopping on the bus this holiday you

more than two million people expected to use bus lines like greyhound between today and sunday up 10% from this time last year. if you're planning to use mass transportation this holiday, you're going to want to get moving early. amtrak says the morning trains are usually the least crowded. but sunday is going to be a doozy no matter what time you travel and amtrak says last year the sunday after thanksgiving was the busiest travel day of the entire year. michael. >> all right, thank you, erielle. i'm not looking forward to that. >> well, you're not going to get relief in airports either. 30 million passengers expected to fly. our chief transportation correspondent david kerley in charlotte, north carolina, with a behind the scenes look at the operations under way. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, george. this is one of the busiest days to fly. look at all these jets lined up here at charlotte. american airlines' second busiest airport and took us behind the scenes to see this crush and how they deal with it. american airlines takg

behind the scenes out on the flight line. there are plenty of deadlines and pressures to get jets turned around and people home. >> everything has to be done in 120 minutes otherwise we don't make our time. >> reporter: you may never see a mechanic like brett ebert who checks the equipment inside and outside your jet. the plane doesn't fly unless it's right. >> right. and we'll fix it if we can. >> reporter: if you look out your jet window and see a group of baggage handlers in a circle and wonder what's going on. >> we'll start with our right hand --% a stretching exercise before these handlers get your bags in the belly of the aircraft. does it make a difference for them? >> it does make a difference. nobody realizes how physical the job in the airport industry are. they are lifting over and over all day. >> reporter: so look out your window. maybe you see them stretching. they say it cuts down on injuries. george, the good news, fewer cancellations the last couple of days then an average day right

smoothly in the air, george. >> and the weather is good behind you. david kerley, thanks very much. >> but as we always say pack a lot of patience. >> oh, yeah. this morning we're also celebrating the life of singer and actor david cassidy. the star of the hit series "the partridge family" died tuesday at the age of 67. his family there with him saying he passed away, quote, with joy in his heart. abc's chris connelly is taking a look back at the former teen idol's life. good morning. >> reporter: for a generation that loved "the partridge family" on abc in the early 1970s, david cassidy was their first pop star. heartthrob appeal made him massively popular cherished by millions who today mourn his passing. ♪ i think i love you so what am i so afraid of ♪ >> reporter: the definitive teen idol of his era. david cassidy smiled and sang his way into the hearts and minds and diaries of millions of young women. ♪ i think i love you

"finding nemo" and "frozen." ♪ let it go >> reporter: this morning the celebrated head of pixar and disney animation, john lasseter is on a six-month leave of absence amid accusations first reported by "the hollywood report earth" that the studio executive famously known for hugging was allegedly known for grabbing and kissing employees, some female employees say they used the lasseter to prevent their boss from toughing their legs. >> we know women in particular when he approacheds them -- they knew to turn their faces so if he tried to kiss them it would

kiss. >> reporter: he responded in a member know writing it's been brought to my attention i've made some of you feel disrespected or uncomfortable. that was never my intent. i deeply apologize. disney, the parent company of abc news, saying we are committed to maintaining an environment in which all employees are respected and empowered to do their best work. we appreciate john's candor and sincere apology and fully support his sabbatical. this as veteran tv journalist charlie rose is facing more accusations of sexual misconduct. three cbs employees came forward tuesday after nearly a dozen women who worked for rose's interview show "charlie rose" accused him of unwanted sexual advances including unwanted touching, groping and walking around naked. cbs fired the "cbs this morning" anchor and "60 minutes" contributor tuesday. pbs officially ended its relationship with the star after distributing his program for 26 years. rose defended himself in public on tuesday. >> do you want to say anything

behavior, particularly if it's in the last three years which is the statute of limitations, then you have possible legal liable for cbs. >> we see a different strategy from disney and john lasseter proactively taking this leave of absence with the support of the company. >> right. we don't know exactly what happened there, right. so there is a lot more questions there about exactly what was the level of the conduct and i think it's really important as we discussed these to talk about what exactly happened in each case. in the law every day we talk about first degree, second degree, third degree, et cetera and i think that it's important in the context of these allegations no the to just sort of lump everyone together and lump them all together and say there are all these allegations out there which is true but also then evaluate them case by case. >> harvey weinstein, you have allegations of sexual assault violence. >> harvey weinstein at least at first what we heard is probably the worst along with bill cosby of what we've heard from these high-profile people and then it goes from there. >> harassment to bad behavior. >> to

not to minimize it but it's to say that in certain cases you have to decide even just in terms of their jobs is this worthy of the professional death penalty. did this level of conduct rise to the point where this person shouldn't work again or certainly shouldn't work at this particular company and there are going to be tough calls where there was some kind of bad behavior, there was inappropriate behavior but does that mean that person should never work again? charlie rose wasn't a close call based on in my view -- >> i wonder if it's not only the level of behavior but being in front of the camera and behind it. >> it could be part of that. how much scrutiny someone gets. but i think that in the end i hope it's based on the conduct itself, what they did, how often it happened, the same sort of evaluations we would do in the law when sentencing someone i think would apply here when talking about what should employers do. >> a lot of tough, complicated

dangers coming before cyber monday when 27% more hotel rooms are booked than any other day of the year and abc's gio benitez is here with those details. >> reporter: hey, good morning to you. tripadvisor has 535 million users but it's now facing new backlash. the federal trade commission is looking into the site's business practices for online reviews. some travelers say their reviews were intentionally removed about safety issues. christie love from dallas says she was raped at a mexico resort in 2010 and tried to post about her experience on tripadvisor back then. >> every day tripadvisor would remove, delete that post. and so i would go immediately and repost it the next day. and it would be removed again. >> reporter: while abc news has not been able to confirm her account tripadvisor did post her review this year seven years later. an investigation by the milwaukee journal sentinel found that more than a dozen tripadvisor users who say their reviews aut

drinking and rapes were deleted or never published at all. >> i kept hearing from person after person that they had tried to warn other travelers and they would try to post it on tripadvisor and they would be -- they had be rejected. their post would be taken down. >> reporter: one mother, the journal says, was a regular at this restaurant in maryland, the owner pleaded guilty in 2015 to having video cameras in the women's bathroom. she tried posting her reaction on a tripadvisor review, but says it was deleted. >> tripadvisor gives a number of reasons why they delete posts and one is that they meet the family-friendly guidelines. another is they're off topic. >> reporter: the family of abbey conner who died in a mexican resort's pool told us in july they wish they could have seen negative reviews about that property before booking. >> you protect your child from so much since they're born and then, you know, what happens in that instant. >> reporter: with

survivors after a crash in the pacific ocean. at least eight people have been found alive and our senior national correspondent matt gutman has the latest. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, george. right now the maeve is throwing everything it has into located the other three people still missing from that plane. miraculously the eight that were recovered are in good condition, they say. the navy c-2 plane crashed 500 miles off the coast of the japanese island of okinawa as it was heading for the usair craft carrier. it was part of a huge naval exercise that turned into a search and rescue operation. this is the third possibly deadly incident involving the u.s. 7th fleet. two previous collisions between navy destroyers and merchant ships caused the death of 17 sailors. the navy says it is investigating what caused this morning's plane crash. george. >> matt, thanks very much. now to the

rush. nearly 51 million expected to hit the roads and sky for thanksgiving. david kerley is at the airport there in charlotte, north carolina. with what you can expect. good morning, again, david. >> reporter: good morning, robin. last hour we watched aircraft after aircraft pull away from the gates and head out. the thanksgiving crush/rush is on here at charlotte and across the country. we went behind the scenes here in charlotte with american airlines to watch the workers turn aircraft very quickly to deal with the nearly 48 million people who are traveling by air over this thanksgiving weekend. so far without weather issues, there have been few cancellations and while there are lines in the terminal, they are moving smartly. of course, today, though, is the biggest day on the road and some estimates suggesting today 50 million americans will be on the move, they'll pay more gas prices up 18% from last year and plus travel up is 10% as well an amtrak says it will move 750,000

started in september. he says he recently learned about this. he says none of this should have happened. he's taking responsibility but personal information of 57 million users, name, e-mail address, mobile phone numbers, they were stolen. uber's hired outside forensic experts that say they haven't seen evidence of fraud or misuse tied to the incident but monitoring the affected accounts and flagged them for additional fraud protection and asking them to keep a lookout and the company has fired two people connected to the breach, michael. a lot of trust rebuilding there to do with users and with the community. >> shouldn't companies like this, this ef some kind of duty to report it to their customers because you need to keep track of your information. >> there are rules and regulations that say they have a window of time to report this so there's probably going to be more on this to come with authorities and regulators as they look into why this happened. >>ll

[ cheers and applause ] does it feel good -- does it feel good to prove them wrong? >> absolutely. i mean, you know, i was so viciously told that i would never succeed and that, you know, i should just throw in the towel and do something else and at the time it was devastating. it was heartbreaking. it was humiliating but i love that story now because it's a part of me and i love to share with people the message that you can determine your own success. no one else can write your story no matter how different you are.
