raised that issue during that school year, and the district went through a process to in the the challenges issue that people raised. when that was originally asked, when he asked that question of me, i followed up on that just to say -- with our secondary folks to say, what are we hearing from teachers related to this issue and is this a current issue people are having? if so, it is not something i agree with, that students should start with a 50%. so i was told what i just shared with you, that it was an issue and was not a district policy. it was something that people had expressed to them. it was communicated last year that it is not a district expectation. >> since park is on ninth and 10th graders taking the exam, now that the district

requirements again, is there any desire to put any districtwide test the students have to take to graduate beyondparcc? most states have statewide test they have to pass. as any thought of putting something in place here so we know by senior year, kids are on track to graduate? >> thank you. i would say that my experience -- in terms ofis the grade they get and what students demonstrated in class. arent to make sure that we acting appropriately based on what we are finding here. but the other thing is, when we came forward, when we talked about the doubling the percentage of students who are graduating college-ready, we talked about parcc, advanced placement

pursuing a degree to which we can have measures -- have measures such as sat be an indicator as well. i would say if we add assessments, we need to take something away because while we are assessing students, i want to make sure we're not infringing upon teachers time to actually teach them. i think that is important to do. [indiscernible] pretty impressive gains in the last few years, 70 points, 30 points, are you concerned this is an issue at those goals, to? >> the district has worked hard to implement practices in our schools, particularly our conference of high schools. -- conference of high schools.

who get an intentional experience a ninth-grade flooding additional supports, making sure they're following up on issues such as attendance and someone is so forth, that has increased the likelihood that high school.uate adrianna: that is the d.c. school chancellor wilson speaking about the alleged grade fixing a ballou high school. here is the investigation that led to this moment. is 100 81 school days in the d.c. public school year. records show high school seniors 100 40, even as many as 151 days in unexcused absences. graduation lists from last school year's show all of those seniors still graduated ballou high school. despite missing all of those classes, internal school records show their teachers would give them passing grades in most classes, even giving the occasional b. 7 on your side analyze the numbers. only teachers were much more likely to give a's an

it was two weeks ago today that the 18 year veteran and father of five was shot in the head while investigating a homicide in a violent part of west baltimore. police confirmed he was shot with his own weapon. there is been speculation after wheeler detective suiter was set to testify against fellow officers in a federal corruption case the day after his murder. this morning we spoke with sergeant read who said it is important to be here as part of the healing process. >> when we do honor guard, when we send out officers to funerals, it is a part of the healing process. we let the family know not only does the baltimore city police department mourn m, but all law enforcementourns. a $215,000 is still reward in this case. following the funeral, there 5ill be a procession of i-9 taking detective suiter to his final resting place.

adrianna: one person is dead after a multivehicle crash on connecticut avenue. six people were taken of the hospital with injuries. one of those patients has died. no word on the conditions of the five others involved. the cause of the crash is under investigation. police did your help finding a person behind an armed robbery in northeast. the suspect stormed into a convenience store last friday, pointing his gun at a clerk and then made his way behind the cash register and forced the clerk opened the drawer. he got away with an undisclosed amount of money. this is the same person police believed to be behind another armed robbery on rhode island avenue just a day later. developing story at a prince, a volunteer sports trainer arrested for sending minute photo to a high school student. suzanne kennedy with a disturbing details in this case. suzanne: the school day here started with

shock and in some cases discussed by students after they learned of allegations being lodged against a school volunteer. curl joseph is accused of sending a new photo to a student. the 26 or a baltimore man was a volunteer athletic trainer. yet worked with the girls basketball team since september. the school's principal sent a letter to the community calling the incident disheartening. authorities say joseph was screen, fingerprinted, and underwent training as part of a mandatory policy for school volunteers. students say they are shocked. >> i feel like it is crazy because this is in the right place to do this. it is not right because this is a minor. >> that is wrong because adult should not be sending pictures to a minor like that. that is highly inappropriate. >> i think it is pretty nasty because you're supposed to be able to trust adults around here to not do things like that. suzanne: joseph was arst

house of representatives, 88 years old. he has gone back to his home state of michigan to sort things out. meanwhile, you're having growing voices inside the democratic party, some members of the congressional black caucus, even nancy pelosi who are saying maybe he should be reconsidering his time in congress. they're saying the ethics committee may take too long, so i think they're putting pressure on him to make what they view as the only decision. democrat and republican, members of congress who behave this way should have to pay the same kind of consequences that high profile figures and media and entertainment are paying. adrianna: i was reading on twitter from various news outlets, roy moore is gaining ground in alabama. some are intruding that to the fact these are democrats -- a true meeting to that these are democrats encompass right now so so maybe viewing this as a critical and maybe that is helping give him momentum? >> i think the bipartisan nature, and nonpartisan beca

developing the last couple of months is helping roy moore. look, in alabama can say, maybe everyone doesn't. what is more important is getting the policies out there. i think that is a disservice to people 11 accused. what roy moore did is different from what john conyers or matt lauer, for that matter. you can judge in their own rights. what roy moore did and is accused of doing stands on its own. but it does appear voters in alabama, as more distance comes , they arellegations reshaping their views whether he is fit to be a senator. adrianna: let's talk about north korea and this test they had last night saying they can get to anywhere in the u.s. now. the president saying "we will take care of it." any idea what that means? >> no. you said we are locked and loaded and there was fire and fury set to rain down a few months ago. he sort of ratcheted back but i do

>> police have confirmed she is with 27-year-old ryan rodriguez. after they were spotted in atm surveillance video at this gas station withdrawing cash on sunday. rodriguez works as the head soccer coach for the boys team at the high school. her father, the head coach for the girls team, brought him in last year. now her dad says he is shocked, telling us he came highly recommended by other parents. >> i texted him that morning, have you talked to anybody that knows? when i call his phone, it goes to -- i can't get a hold of him. >> he is a family friend. we have known him for several years. >> authorities say there was no sign the girl would leave with rodriguez. >> caitlyn has a current boyfriend who also is beside himself because everything was fine. there were no indicators there was an issue. and now she has just taken off. >>
