travel. an american airlines glitch could affect thousands of flights. >> oh, boy. and we'll start, though, with those new accusations against matt lauer. nbc fired the "today" show host after a woman came forward with allegations and more are telling their stories. abc's linsey davis is here with new reporting. good morning, linsey. >> reporter: good morning, robin. some of the details that emerged are simply too graphic for morning television. there are accusations of lewd techs and comments of lauer exposing himself and one woman alleges to "the new york times" a sexual encounter in his office culminated with her passing out and lauer having his assistant take her to a nurse. matt lauer's fall from grace casting a dark cloud over what was supposed to be a bright night at nbc's famed christmas tree lighting. the former anchor scrubbed from the show. >> the atmosphere is electric. >> reporter: the star with a reported $25 million a year salary now fired. >> and, good morning, welcome to "t

i'm matt lauer. >> reporter: the female staffers' allegations of sexual misduct during and after the 2014 olympics in sochi. two more nbc employees came forward wednesday. one telling "the new york times" lauer summoned her to his office in 2001 during a workday, locked the door and sexually assaulted her. the alleged victim says she didn't report it because she felt ashamed and didn't want to lose her job. >> she says that he then asked her to unbutton her blouse which she did. she says he then came around from his desk, pulled down her pants and had sex with her. she says she does bear some of the responsibility for what happened but she felt like he was going to be using his power over her. >> reporter: after the sexual assault she passed out in lauer's office. he then asked his assistant to bring her to the nurse. the new allegations come after another scathing expose wednesday. virgin "variety" details the claims of several current and

their social media accounts. despite claims to the contrary nbc news release add statement saying we can see unequivocally that prior to monday night current nbc news management was never made aware of any complaints about matt lauer's conduct. george. >> okay, linsey, thanks. we just got a statement from matt lauer. i want to read it to you right now. just came in on the e-mail. he says, there are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain i have caused others by words and actions. to the people i have hurt i am truly sorry as i am writing this i realize the depth of the damage and disappointment i have left behind at home and at nbc. some of what is being said is n untrue or mischaracterized but there is enough truth in the stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed. there is more after that but that's the nub of the statement from matt lauer and we are joined also by the reporters who broke the story for "variety," ramen setoodeh and elizabeth wagmeister. elizabeth, we heard matt lauer say some of the stories have been mischaracterized. you were working on this for weeks befe

move. how many women did you talk to? what did they say. >> we spoke to three women and multiple sources. we did dozens of interviews. we investigated this for two months and we were told some very shocking and disturbing stories which are a stark contrast to the matt lauer that everybody is known for over 20 years. we were told that he gave a sex tape to one of his former employees along with a graphic note about what he wanted to do with it. we were told that he called a woman into his office and dropped his pants exposed himself and when she didn't want to do anything with him he represeimanded her. these women were scared because matt lauer had so much power. it's what we're hearing with all the stories. unfair power dynamic. >> it appeared to be an open secret from your reporting. we see these from the brass, andy lack said first time in 20 years he's heard a clapts and doubled down overnight saying unequivocally there were no complaints before monday night. that's at odds with your reporting. >> it is at odds with our report

former and current staffers who say that there was general knowledge within all ranks of nbc between staffers, high ranking executives, other anchors that were on air with matt knowing detailing speaking about what matt was doing pursuing women. >> semantics here there were no formal complaints with the hr department. >> it seems like they're referencing paperwork as opposed to actual knowledge and i think that's where the story is headed. the question of who knew what when and many of the sources we talk to find it hard to believe they can issue this blanket statement saying nobody new. >> this appears to have been allowed to continue because of the enormous power he yielded on camera and behind the scenes. >> absolutely. i mean matt lauer, he makes -- made $25 million per year. he was there for over 20 years. he was the face of the "today" show. they didn't want to let anything ruin that. >> and it appears that from you we

seemed to focus on people at work. especially in recent years. >> this is an important aspect of the story. the wlasment occurred in the office. it occurred in his office. it occurred while he was taking work trips. it occurred in hotel rooms. this was behavior that he didn't do on his own or away from nbc. this was done within the halls of the newsroom. >> we were told that, you know, matt, he was very paranoid about being caught. he's a big star. so he knew that he could be caught by tabloid reporters. that's why he kept it within his stable and knew he had power there so he was pretty assured that these women would not complain about him because he was the big man there. >> you've talked to dozens of people. expect more to come forward. >> we've been in communication with more victims and we're in the process of vetting their stories. >> thanks for coming on this morning. sexual misconduct allegations also rocking politics. alabama senate candidate roy moore back on the campaign trail last night as one of his accusers issues an open letter.

raising the issue of national security. the three videos the president retweeted were originally posted by a tiny anti-islam ultra nationalist party called britain first. a group known for hate filled incitement. they purport to show muslims engaged in violent acts. the office of british prime minister theresa may condemned the president for his tweets saying britain first seeks to divide communities through their use of hateful narratives which peddle lies and stoke tensions. it is wrong for the president to have done this. the president responded to may last night saying, don't know cuss on me, focus on the destructive radical islamic terrorism that is taking place within the united kingdom. we are doing just fine. and white house press secretary sarah sanders also responded to the president's tweets. >> it's important to talk about national security and national security threats. >> reporter: one of the videos claims to show a muslim migrant in the netherlands beating a dutch b

not admitted to committing any of the shootings. the. >> the gun is what we needed. >> reporter: police say donaldson's gun was used in all four murders and data from his cell phone was matched to three of the crime scenes and when they searched his car they found clothes that matched the items the suspect was wearing in these surveillance videos. >> the motive will be someplace in his computer, his phone, in social media or with friends or associates or co-workers. >> reporter: last january donaldson graduated from st. john's university in new york where he played for the basketball team. his former teammates say he was competitive but not violent. as for the florida community that has been on edge for weeks now breathing a sigh of relief. >> now it's like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders. >> reporter: donaldson's first court appearance is this morning. overnight the manager at the mcdonald's who handed the gun over to a police officer released a statement saying she is surprised and overwhelmed by everything that's happened. right now she is thinking about

in. they want him to come forward because as of right now, we don't know if there was a physical relationship between them. if there was, that would be a crime in the state of florida based on their age, age of concept in florida is 18. there are exceptions if you're under the age of 4 which he is not is and also remember as they go state to state, he may also be committing crimes in each of those states depending on what those state laws are, as well. >> as we've been alluding to and heard in the piece about moving north, families there. so how do police handle that knowing they have family in the area. >> they're doing their homework. looking at everybody and their trusted circle of friends, i'm sure they're all over those people and looking at them. peripheral investigate and whatnot. probably countersurveilling doing a discreet locate on these families. it's not just them but that tight circle of friends they have. they're traveling and have to be communicating somehow. somebody has a device and picking up the phone. she says she wiped

holidays. 000s of flights could be affected. our senior transportation correspondent david kerley is at reagan national airport with the story. good morning, david. >> reporter: george, this tells you how much we rely on computers these days. up to 7 million passengers could have been affected by this computer glitch. we're talking about 15,000 flights according to the pilots union that were affected by this computer glitch. now, here's what happened. piles have the opportunity to opt out of a flight on this computer system but because of the glitch, they were actually able to get out of flights when they were needed and that's a problem for american airlines. they ended up with this shortage of pilots and now trying to figure out how they can get all these piles back on the schedule for the last two weeks of december so that everybody is get home for the holidays. american has been scrambling for the past five days working to find pilots for all those flights that are scheduled and they're making some progress, george. >> filling the hole going to

feelings they're more apt to relate to the emotional feelings of others and have to look at how we have this boys will be boys and boys don't cry and really tune in to our boys' emotional health as well. >> what is your advice for teaching kids how to stand up for themselves if they are experiencing inappropriate behavior. >> we need to teach them that no means no and if they have something that happens to them and if it's a question, a comment, a touch that makes them feel confused that makes them feel angry and shame they need to be able to talk to us about it. which means as parents we need to listen and take action. >> i imagine it is age appropriate. you have to, of course, take into category the age of your child. >> certainly but, you know, our kids are exposed to more and more younger ages and know our preteens and adolescents certainly have a lot more sexual harassment type of things that happen to them, so it's real and just because they're young doesn't mean that they can't be exposed to it as well. >> on the flip side of that

say, if your child, you find out your child is the harasser, how do you approach that? >> you have to stop that behavior immediately and help them understand how the other person feels, find out what they're feeling and enforce consequences and teach them how to be empathetic which means they understand how other people feel. >> bottom line this for us. if you're a parent and, you know, like, well, you can't pick up your phone, you can't turn on tv without seeing something like this. >> well, as parents we need to take a breath because there's always something. but it's about being mindful of what we expose our children to because most of what happens reeled to trauma still happens in the home and be mindful of that but also help them be good and kind people and listen to them. always keep the door of communication open. >> yeah. >> very important. >> that is very important and also we got to feed our own souls. i know you moved to florida not too long ago. things are going well. >> it's well. i have gratitude every single day, i love my job, the people, the sunshine,bu

[ applause ] >> that dress is divine. >> isn't it? >> wow. >> trying to dress like a news reporter when i come here. >> since you're at the table, at the desk. >> you know, welcome. welcome to the show and we love -- this show and robin always talked about how incredible you are and how uncanny you are as tonya harding and how much did you know about the story before you did the movie? >> i didn't know anything. i've never heard the name tonya harding before. i read the script and when i read the script i thought it was complete fiction and i thought it was -- i was like, wow, this is so creative coming up with this crazy, bizarre stuff and love the fake mockumentary style and then i found out it was all true and i was blown away and fascinated. >> did you have the chance to meet her. >> i did. i met her right before we started shooting. >> and? >> it was great, yeah. i had done all my character prep beforehand and decided exactly

character and i kind of wanted to keep her and the character separate so i waited till the last minute to meet her. >> that's interesting. it's not a facsimile. >> because there's so much footage of her already like interviews when she's 15 to 44 when i play her from 15 to 44, i could -- and everything in between i could do all my research -- i could study her manner itches and accent and everything i did six months of studying her and then which met her i wanted to meet her as a person. >> did she have any special requests or -- >> no, she was great about it. i mean we said to her this isn't a traditional biopic. not traditional at all and it's not a documentary, you know, it's a feature film and we feed to have liberty on set to really run with these characters and let them do their own thing in that space and she was really understanding about it and really lovely. she asked me like how i was going with the skate training and was honestly more worried about me than i was about her. she was like do you need help? i can help train you if you want.

do you have your skates with you? >> how much did you train for it? i covered the story when working at espn and which was seeing the movie i was seeing tonya. how much -- [ applause ] >> thank you. it was all me. [ laughter ] it wasn't. we replicaed all her skate routines like to the move so hopefully people who do remember it will look at it on youtube and kind of see the comparison -- >> the triple axel. >> the triple axel. even if i had 20 years to train, i was never going to be able to do a triple axel and in fact no one could. not even our skate doubles. they couldn't even do a triple axel so we were like, well, surely -- no, i've never even attempted a triple axel and sold we had to cgi. only six women in the world have done a triple axel since tonya did 25 years ago. >> the first american woman to do it in competition. >> it's amazing. >> you want to see some of the film?

i'm in. i'm in the escapism business. >> but you've been at this since 1977 so what made you come back for this new generation of flips? >> well, it was kind of intimidating because we never expected that -- we thought if they do another trilogy it wouldn't involve any of our characters. it would be all new characters. so i thought, well, it's all or nothing. it's got to be harrison and carrie and all of us. i said, well, harrison will never do it. he's so accomplished and, you know, i thought for sure that he would say no. when i read in the paper he signed for harrison ford i said to my wife, well, i've been drafted. >> me too. >> there's no turning it down now.
