years for kate steinle's family a verdict many did not expect. jose garcia found not guilt in the shooting death of the 32-year-old on the san francisco peer in july of 2015. >> we believe the verdict is a correct and accurate reflection of the law. >> reporter: he maintained his innocence saying he found the gun under a chair on the pier and when he examined it it accide accidentally fired. the bullet ricocheted hitting steinle as she walked with her father about 90 feet away but garcia was in the country illegally after being deported five times. weeks before he was awaiting a sixth deportation from the sheriff's department released him instead. >> from day one this case was used as a means to foment hate. >> reporter: during the presidential campaign then candidate donald trump used the case to promote his border wall and a crackdown on sanctuary cities.

congressman makes a decision on his political future, following the release of a lewd picture. republican joe barton says he is not running for re-election. in a statement barton thanked his constituents for their support and friendship. all this after a nude photo of him surfaced online earlier this month. last week, barton apologized for not using better judgment while separated from his wife and in consensual relationships with women. all six baltimore police officers who were charged... in the arrest and death of freddie gray... are now back on the job. a spokesman for the department says -- none of the officers are on patrol duty -- but
