this morning on "world news now," president trump is giving his full support to alabama senate candidate roy moore despite sexual misconduct allegations against him. and the republican committee is sending resources back to alabama. what it all means a week before the election. and the president's legal team comes up with a new strategy, saying that the president cannot obstruct justice. this comes as michael flynn is now cooperating with the russia probe. and if at first you don't succeed, detroit, try again. >> the silverdome faced a second round of explosives.

"the skinny" is packed on this december 5th. from abc news, this is "world news now." >> chris pratt did a good job sitting in for jimmy. let's start off with new developments in that race for senate in alabama. >> yeah, the republican national committee has now reestablished its support for roy moore, despite the claims of sexual misconduct against him. the rnc is sending resources back to alabama with a week to go until voters choose between him and moore and democrat doug jones. >> that support comes as one of moore's accusers is offering new evidence of her relationship with him. debbie wesson gibson produced a high school graduation card from him.

and references in her scrapbook. she says they are proof of their open relationship when she was 17 and he was 34. it was published hours after president trump endorsed moore. tom llamas has more. >> reporter: on air force one, president trump made it official, calling roy moore to endorse him, even though moore has been accused of molesting teenage girls. moore tweeting the president told him "go get'em, roy." he has been accused of inappropriate behavior, including sexual assault. >> he laid out some blankets on the floor of his living room and proceeded to seduce me. i was a 14 year old child trying to play in an adult's world, and he was 32 years old. >> reporter: the president has expressed doubts. >> roy moore has denied it. that's all i can say, he denies it. and by the way, he totally denies it. >> rep

mcconnell, at first quick to side with moore's accusers. >> roy moore should step aside. the women who have come forward are entirely credible. he's obviously not fit to be in the united states senate. >> reporter: now mcconnell has changed his tune. >> do you believe judge roy moore should be in the senate? >> i'm going to let the people of alabama make the call. >> reporter: moore has denied all accusations of sexual misconduct, campaigning almost exclusively in churches to rally evangelical voters. today moore tweeting, thankful for president trump's support. can't wait to help him, #drain the swamp. so far, no plans to campaign with moore, but the president will have a late-night rally in pensacola, florida. it's so close to the alabama border it's part of the mobile media market. the moore campaign tells me they welcome that contact, because president trump's peop

are roy moore's people. ns paul manafort is accused of ghost writing an editorial with a russian associate while on house arrest putting the terms of his bail in jeopardy. court papers say he was collaborating with an associate linked to the russian service and they were planning to publish it in someone else's name. and they want to influence public opinion on manafort. prosecutors want the judge to reconsider his bail agreement. president trump says he feels bad for former national security adviser michael flynn. meanwhile, the debate is refuelled for obstruction of justice. as one of his attorneys now argues argues it's a crime the president cannot commit. >> reporter: it's a possible new legal defense for the president. the president'

president cannot be guilty of obstruction of justice in his role, because he is the chief law enforcement officer of the united states and can give his opinion on any legal case. the claim follows this statement, which dowd says he wrote from the president's twitter account. i had to fire general flynn because he lied to the vice president and the fbi. that led to speculation the president was admitting he knew flynn lied to the fbi before he allegedly tried to get then-fbi director james comey to go easy on flynn. >> i understood him to be saying that what he wanted me to do was drop any investigation connected to flynn's account to his conversations with the russians. >> reporter: multiple legal experts disagree with the president's lawyer, saying a president can obstruct justice. >> there is no question that a president of the united states can break the law. legal sclars believe that a sitting president can't be prosecuted for a crime while

he's president. that the remedy would be political, impeachment or waiting until his term is over. >> reporter: but it's not the first time the president claimed some laws don't apply to the chief executive. >> when the president does it, it means it is not illegal. >> reporter: both nixon and clinton faced obstruction of justice charges during their impeachment hearings. serena marshal, abc news, washington. a judge in new york will decide if a former contestant can proceed. she was on "the apprentice." she claims president trump kissed and grabbed her in 2007 when she visited him about a possible job at the trump organization. she filed the suit in january after trump said her claim was a lie. and now to breaking news out of southern california. a fast-moving brush fire is threatening homes. >> it's burning north of los angeles in the city of santa paula and ventura. there are some evacuations that are taking place in both

these are early morning live pictures as can you tell there many you can see how this fire has grown quite a bit. in fact, it has doubled in size, just in the last couple of hours. burning thousands of acres. santa ana winds gusting to 70 miles per hour are fanning the flames and the high winds are expected to remain through most of the week. we are told this fire is considered fatal right now, there's been at least one death associated with it. it was a traffic accident that took place moments ago. >> dangerous weather conditions as well. also farther north, a wintry storm hitting the upper midwest is set to bring a chill to a lot of the country. the latest radar shows the front pushing a line of storms 1400 miles from texas to michigan. it is bringing blizzard and whiteout conditions to some areas. dumping nearly a foot of snow in some areas. wind chills will be below zero in some areas. the crew of another commercial airliner believes it saw north korea's latest missile launch.

francisco to hong kong when those on board saw the missile's re-entry. the missile was far from the jet and the plane was not affected. the korean air pilots on two other flights say they also saw the missile. and yemen's former president has been killed in fighting between his supporters and their former allies. ali abdullah saleh ruled for two decades before he was forced to resign during the arab spring, section year -- six years ago. fighting in the capital has intensified in the past week. a 69-year-old man from jacksonville, florida is in fbi custody for allegedly planning a mass shoot being at an islamic center. he is a gun enthusiast who expressed strong anti-islamic sentiment. he was arrested after his home was raided last friday. he's held on a weapons charge while other counts are considered.
