>> this year's wildfires scorched a million acres. >> a massive overnight fire is tomorrowing holidays. ten ups trucks to go out for delivery caught fire. we are joined now from the facility in frederick. does ups know how many packages burned? >> bar code you would imagine it does. but the atlanta-based company telling us very little this evening. take a quick glance, though, at one of the sered trucks. all the indication is very little was salvageable. >> the firefighters delivered thousands of gallons of water to ups in frederick.

>> here are a few more of the scorched trucks in the facility rear lot. sprinkle system helped keep the fire taking hold of the building. the cause is still under investigation. >> the video from the grounder showing damage to the other homes as well. it appears that no one was hurt. firefighters are still on the scene searching through the debris to try to figure out what caused the explosion. >> a man was found bound and beaten in an apartment that was on fire. the man is in critical condition. neighbors call it shocking. five other families were forced from the home.

arrest. >> new tonight a police shooting that spurred weeks of protest ruled up justified. >> september of last year an officer shot terrence sterling and raced to perform c.p.r. stephen tschida reports that calls are now growing for the officer to be fired. >> the police shooting of an unarmed man. today the police chief peter newsham announced the findings. >> chief newsham: in this case, they determined the policy was violated. the shooting was unjustified. >> he was racing through d.c. on the morning in 2016. brian trainer attempted to block his path and get out of the

leave. >> michigan governor will call a special election to fill the house seat left vacant by john conyers who has resigned amid sexual misconduct allegations from former staffers. two members of the conyers family are among those to run for the seat. he endorsed the candidacy of his son, his nephew also plans to run. massage envy unveiled its plans to combat sexual abuse in the spa. last month we reported 180 people came forward to say the massage therapists sexually assaulted them. that includes a case in northeast d.c. it includes stronger background check and more cooperation with police. >> three popular burger joints shut down and why d.c. says it had to shut down the five guys locations. michelle: and armed men rob a cell phone store in broad daylight

crime alert in washington. this is caught on video. this happened before noon on sunday. they come in and order everyone down. they start to fill it up with the phones and accessories. the men put bags in the boxes.

the police in prince george's county and d.c. fear it's a matter of time before someone gets hurt after a string of the convenience store robberies. investigators are looking for the two men caught in the surveillance pictures. the duo is suspected of robbing seven 7-eleven stores. that is a look at the get-away car. >> they have suspended operation. they owe $500,000 in sales tax they collected but never paid. look here. the closed restaurants near the mcpherson square, the noma-gallaudet university station and l'enfant plaza. abc7 reached out to the corporate office for a response but we have not heard back. >> just ahead for us a big surprise in a red kettle. the acts of the generosity

michelle: update on the i-team investigation faking the grade. d.c. mayor is reacting to the decision to change the principals at ballou high school. that is after we revealed students who skipped school more often than attended were able to graduate. nathan baca talked to the mayor about what comes next. >> this includes the deputy mayor, deputy chancellor and the new outside groove. >> she needed help and she wanted a firm to arrest the department. >> they alerted the administrators about the allegations they were pressured to give the students grades they didn't deserve. just to graduate seniors with over 100 unexpected

school let us know about it. alison: now the opioid crisis. nancy: montana is the 12th state to sue drug company for the role in the crisis. but it's not just state us going after big pharma. so are hospitals in alabama and mississippi. >> they are struggling because of the huge burden dumped on them. nancy: it targets a dozen drug manufacturers to accuse them of deceptive marketing and selling highly addictive dangerous opioids. the companies deny they have done anything wrong and work ing to help those districted. >> a push for the emergency funds to fight the opioid epidemic. woodbridge supervisor is asking for $200,000 in funding. he says that the money is desperately needed to boost the treatment for those

michelle: a washington state couple has a memorable story to tell about the engagement. the couple on the way home after the happy moment. when they saw a building on fire. the groom-to-be a volunteer firefighter jumped into action. >> we both looked at each other and said station 84 is there. we don't see the lights on. no movement. michelle: the lights were off because of a look of volunteers in funding so he unlocked the door, grabbed the truck and raced to the scene by himself. slowing the fire spread until backup arrived. that is how you know you got the right one. nancy: absolutely! never off-duty there. a big surprise. someone dropped a gold coin to a red kettle worth $1,300. they found it last week.
