270 spur, back open -- after a man was hit and killed on the inner loop. state police say 53 year old edward long of montgomery apparently got out of his car to pick something up off the road when he was hit. the driver of the striking car was also hurt but is expected to be ok. and also breaking overnight in alexandria.. flames tearing througha home on north payton street. the fire apparently started in the basement. crews were able to

and no one was hurt. happening today - president trump set to recognize jerusalem as israel's capital. the official announcement, expected later today. the president also plans to move the u-s embassy from tel aviv to that city... but it won't happen immediately. the move upends decades of u-s policy. u-s allies have expressed concerns the move could be detrimental to the peace process in the region. u-s troops in jerusalem are on alert this morning.. preparing for possible violence. and breaking just minutes ago.. pope francis speaking out - and calling for quote "wisdom and prudence" to avoid conflict in jerusalem. on the hill - president trump's son in the hot seat today. donald trump junior will appear before the house intelligence committee for a closed-door interview about the russia investigation. trump junior faces growing questions about his meeting with russian operatives at trump tower during the 2016 campaign. house and senate committees have already interviewed several of the participants in that meeting. trump junior denies any wrongdoing.

morning.. vice president mike pence could be next on the list to testify in the russia election meddling investigation. this according to c-n-n. aides to the vice president say he knew michael flynn contacted the russian ambassador -- but insist pence did not know the two discussed sanctions. flynn pleaded guilty last week to lying to the f-b-i. right now. firefighters in southern california are in an uphill battle as four wildfires continue to burn out of control. overnight - the thomas fire in ventura county and the creek fire in la county - both exploding in size. in all - more than 60 thousand acres have burned. 150 structures left damaged or destroyed. and thousands were forced to leave their homes as a state of emergency was put in place. so far none of the fire in ventura county has been contained. firefighters will get some relief

back up tomorrow. right now-- an 11 year old boy in critical condition.. after he was accidentally shot last night. police say the boy was inside a suitland home with a family friend. the adult was putting away a firearm, when it discharged, striking the boy in the upper body. he rushed the child to the hospital-- where he underwent surgery last night. police are calling this a tragic accident. two physical education teachers accused of smoking two physical education teachers accused of smoking pot at an arlington school are due in court today. the search warrant accuses michael diaddigo and luke lloyd of smoking pot in an office attaylor elementary school before class started and using air freshener to hide the smell. the teachers have been suspended while the investigation continues. an arraignment hearing is set for two this afternoon. new developments -- and calls for a d-c police officer to be fired, after a shooting that left a motorcyclist dead -- was ruled unjustified. last september officer brian trainer shot and killed terrence sterling.. after sterling bumped tr

government shutdown unless congress passes a spending bill before midnight friday. republicans in the house have delayed a vote on a short-term funding bill amid disagreements on spending levels. that vote will likely happen tomorrow.. the same day congressional leaders from both parties head to the white house in hopes of hammering out a long-term budget deal. happening today in fairfax county, a preliminary hearing will be held on the recount in the 40th district house of delegates race. that district includes parts of prince william and fairfax counties. g-o-p incumbent tim hugo is ahead of democrat donte tanner by 106 votes. candidates in three other districts are also asking for recounts. if current results hold, the g-o-p will maintain its 51-to-49 majority in the house of delegates. right now... police in fairfax county, searching for some hungry thieves! that's after two pizza delivery drivers were robbed at gunpoint-- and a third was threatened! it all happened over the weekend. in each case -- two men approached the driver, showed a gun and demanded money and the pizza! in each case, the delivery drivers g
