also a sign of life among the scary wildfires ravaging southern california. news at 11:00, on your side. kimberly: we begin tonight with the winter weather alert. good evening. i'm kimberly suiters. graaffi'm brian van de we had a record snow day. it is not that we had the biggest number ever, but for the state in the history books, we have not seen this much snow since 2005. inches, aller two of these records set. the snow is done, but the concern tonight is the icy spots. anything that is wet could be select. beautiful pictures shared on social media. we totally appreciate that. this is a shot from great falls,

trees and the rocks. a beautiful shot. in maryland, beautiful photography, just a pretty seen across the dmv. overnight, temperatures are slipping back. heading out the door tomorrow, 20 to 39 degrees downtown. coming up, we talk about the subfreezing temperatures in the impact for slick sidewalks and side roads. kimberly: as brian mentioned, we are at freezing right now and in some spots you may see the wet pavement turned to ice. tonight, takeving it easy, especially on bridges and overpasses. crews have spent much of the day trying to keep the roads clear. salt trucks were filling up less than an hour ago. a reminder tonight of how unpredictable and dangerous ice can be.

after jumping the curb and hitting a pole. amazingly, the driver was not hurt. >> somebody helped me climb out of the car. it's ok, just lost the car. kimberly: she said she was very fortunate area many drivers say they expect the conditions to be worse and they were grateful they were not. tonight, to the south, snow was on the ground after record amounts phil yesterday in places like mobile, alabama, where snow is rare and they saw up to 10 ages. boom.ck, crack, kimberly: operations at airports also frozen. more than 2000 flights canceled and another 3000 delayed. with the storm creeping up the east coast, the biggest problem seems to be power outages. with a heavy snow, hundreds of thousands are in the dark as far north as maine.

tragedies. very rarely does that tragedy hit right here at home. q: friday night come on his way home, sander cohen noticed a vehicle broken down on 270. being the firefighter he was come he stopped. >> he did not stop in a car that had lights or siren. he went to help somebody. q: the police say that cohen in the man he tried to help were hit by a honda accord that swerved to avoid their cars. it was fellow rockville volunteer firefighters who rushed to the scene. >> we had volunteers doing cpr on 270 in realized who he was. helped wasthat cohen fbi agent carlos wolff, who later died. >> he was assigned to the criminal investigative division at fbi headquarters. his loss will be felt by the entire fbi family. q: cohen

yet. now a serious crash involving a charter bus in california that overturned last night on the san francisco freeway, sending more than 20 people to the hospital. most passengers had to crawl out through broken windows. >> for some reason he lost control. struck the center divide and came back across the lane, and tipped on its side. kimberly: all victims are expected to full recovery. that is still under investigation. continuing to monitor the six wildfires in southern california tonight. more than 8000 firefighters are on the ground battling the blazes. over 175,000 acres have been scorched. and the thomas fire, which is the largest, grew about 31,000 acres in nine hours. that is nearly an acre per second.

his endorsement official for embattled alabama senate candidate roy moore. he recorded a row ball call urging people to vote for him tuesday. the republican allegedly pursued relationships with teenage girls decades ago. two women say that moore assaulted them. he has to not all the allegations. the president endorsed him and at a rally yesterday. theident trump was at opening at the mississippi civil rights museum today. the visit sparked some backlash. >> we are standing in accord with what the ideals of the civil rights movement means. and that is why we choose not to share the stage with donald trump. kimberly: that is jackson's mayor, one of many who criticize the governor's invitation to the president. trump spoke to a private gathering of people rather than at the public opening ceremony. >>

slick roadways. a couple more pictures, chairs on the deck. they got about four inches of snow. the values from the list, the national weather service and weather spotters, we have seen as much as 6.1 inches in oakland, five inches leesburg, .5, and we continue to see lots of snow. front royal about two inches. outside across the region, temperatures continue to drop. manassas, 31nd frederick, 30 culpeper, 29 hagerstown, 31 annapolis and pax river. these numbers continue to drop, skies are clear, the temperature dropping. a look at the snowpack on the ground and roadways, the biggest concern are the side streets and sidewalks. those of the areas to watch for slick spots overgh

sunday services early tomorrow morning, that is the concern. sunrise is not until 7:16. the temperatures below freezing, so slick spots early on. as the morning progresses, we will get near 40 degrees. however, tomorrow will be breezey. i think it will feel more like the upper 20's and low 30's with the windchill. plenty of sunshine, but it will be brisk, so bundle up. the wave of low pressure moving to the north and east. another system dropping through west virginia and to the west. this could bring snow showers to the western slopes of the mountains, a little catalyst kicking the storm to the north and east. as we head into the evening, skies are clearing. tomorrow morning, clear and cold come in the 20's.
