autria: a search for a missing teenager ending in tragedy this morning. suzanne kennedy is live in bethesda with what happened. suzanne: good morning. it has been a difficult month for students at walt whitman high school. earlier this month, there was a suicide of a young woman, a sophomore here, and now the death of a 17-year-old senior. he had been missing since around 11:30 on saturday night. montgomery county police conducted a search on sunday afternoon. his body was discovered in the 6500-block of lavrock lane. friends gathered where he was found. some lit candles as they remember the young man. it is unclear how he died, an conducted.l be it appears this was an accident. the principle of walt whitman high school sent out an

notifying the community of the death. grief counselors will be on hand to help students process this loss. reporting live in bethesda, suzanne kennedy. autria: we now know what started the fire that forced three people and two of their pets out of their home. a gas fireplace is to blame for this scene. the fire spread to the walls and the ceiling around 10:30 last night. adrianna: breaking overnight, the thomas fire in southern california only getting bigger. it is now the fifth largest in california's history, burning an area larger than new york city. firefighters announced a setback late last night. they are losing containment, 15% down to 10%. the fire has destroyed 800 buildings and threatens thousands more. some good news for your ride

>> you are watching "good morning washington," on your side. autria: new developments this morning after the deadly high-rise fire in london. adrianna: sam sweeney is following the latest from the live desk. sam: the fire was six months ago and it killed more than 70 people and hundreds lost homes. only 42 families have been resettled so far. 166 families are still living in temporary shelter. two days of public hearings are said to get underway. after the fire, british officials promised change, but experts say dozens of buildings in britain are constructed with that ultra-flammable tear real and remain occupied. officials will hear two days of comment.

resettlement attempts because resentments run so deep. extremely flammable insulation is linked to the cause of that fire. autria: 7 is on your side with a warning for homeowners in the area. fire investigators warning about the importance of chimney investigations -- inspections. chimney anded in a the homeowner was able to get out safely, but the fire has caused about $200,000 worth of damage. >> it appeared that a break, a fire brick from inside the firebox of the fireplace, had fallen out of place at some point while the homeowner was burning a fire in the fireplace. autria: there are three different levels of chimney inspection and the homeowner did actually get her chimney inspected this year, but it might not have been the right kind. if the home is 50 years old, it may need a higher level inspection.
