by car or plane as we are just days away from christmas. times to be on the road today are between 3:00-6:00. ryan is at dulles airport breaking down the numbers. ryan: good afternoon. we have been making our way through departure terminals all morning long. we saw a long, heavy lines early this morning. this afternoon, things have really died down and slowed over here at dulles airport, but the airlines say they are still bracing for the crowds later on this afternoon. the numbers are staggering at the airport. aaa says 6.4 million americans will be hitting the skies over the next few days. today, workers are dealing with the busiest travel day of the season. tsa expects to see an additional 400,000 people on top of a regular thursday.

with christmas eve and christmas day on monday. more on that plus a big cool down by the end of next week. adrianna: a fairfax county police officer was hit by a car while direct ring traffic on route 28 and i-66. traffic on route 28 and i-66. suzanne: a police officer is recovering after responding to an accident on route 28. you can see they are still investigating the incident. there were two incidents that took ways, one around 5:45 a.m. tractor-trailer, a box truck, and a third vehicle. while investigating that incident, a fairfax county police officer was struck and transported to a local hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. on the scene at this hour, southbound route 28

shortly. authorities are still trying to figure out what happened that caused that police officer to be injured. in centerville, suzanne kennedy, abc seven news. montgomery, -- montgomery county, an excavator overturned this morning on clarksburg road not too far from the clerk spurred outlet. clarksburg outlet. the man was taken to the hospital but the extent of his injuries is unclear. a story from australia, an suv plowing into a crowd in what police are calling a deliberate act. in all, 19 people were injured. four are still in critical condition. the driver had a history of drug abuse and mental health issues. the second person they arrested was filming the incident. >> taken
