this morning on "world news now," the dangerous, bitter cold gripping many parts of the country as we head into the new year. >> record snowfall with more than five feet in some places. that snow is burying homes. the national guard even showed up to help people dig out. travel is treacherous for millions out thayere. a major power outage leaves people stranded on rides for hours at disneyland during the busy holiday week. this morning what's blamed for the outage. digital addiction? are cell phones, digital media overtaking your life? some in congress are wondering

their way into this home to rescue a woman trapped inside. residents struggling to dig out and crews struggling to keep the roads passable. >> it's coming at times faster than we can keep up with it. >> reporter: in erie, 65 inches of snow and still coming down. he spent most of the day digging out his family's two cars, trying to keep up with mother nature this week he says a losing battle. >> we're enjoying the snow, the best way we can put it. >> reporter: crews coming as far away as pittsburgh and the national guard called in too. they're dealing with mounds of snow that turn out to be cars buried in. owners unable to get to them. icy roads causing more than 40 accidents in kansas city alone. in michigan city, indiana, this plane skidding off a runway. luckily, no one was hurt. then there's bone-chilling cold. resident wearing winter gear
