that is when the man shot the woman and she is now dead. along i-95 the man took off on an s.u.v. after the police say he shot a woman that he lived with on the third floor. neighbors tell abc7 news the couple moved in the apartment two weeks ago. they heard a pop sound but they didn't real iidentify it as a gunshot. after shooting the woman three times in the chest. the shooter did take off in the s.u.v. and first spotted by a virginia state trooper. the man fired shots at the trooper's cruiser hitting the windshield. i want you to look at this picture. it's of a stafford county sheriff patrol car. deputy was in there. this shooter according to the police took a shot at that deputy. he hit his cruiser. the bullet went through and hit the head rest on the passenger side. we are told that one of the deputies, one of the stafford county sheriff deputies suffered a

that shooting. the chase was on. he ends up crashing his s.u.v. on the northbound lane of i-95. shuts down traffic for hours. police surrounded the s.u.v. not sure if he was inside or out. they did finally find him inside. they arrested him and took him to fairfax hospital with the serious injuries. the investigators wrapped up their evidence collecting here at the apartment. they had been here since shortly around 12:00 noon. the crime scene investigators got here. now i want to mention again that is more devastating and more tragic about this. we believe the couple that just moved in two weeks ago had children. the children were inside when this went down. nancy: firefighters were called to the home aro

cops were chasing him. >> vincent is charged with carjacking, assault and receiving stolen property. we are told he will face additional charges. >> memorial service scheduled for saturday for scott and buckley fricker. it begins at 10:00 a.m. in herndon. frickers were killed in the home last week. they were shot by the daughter's 17-year-old boyfriend. the investigators believe frickers wanted the daughter to break up with the teen because of his neo nazi view. nancy: in the last half hour man accused of killing three people and pulling off several robberies appeared in court. james mayfield eluded them for months. richard reeve is live outside d.c. superior court after being at that hearing.

richard: he was caught because of an attempted armed robbery yesterday. he has a mugshot of mayfield here and it was released months ago when the police arrested another man in the august 17 shooting death of 17-year-old sindor who just graduated from the woodrow wilson high school and was ten days graduating attending college in florida when she was fatally wounded by a stray bullet. for months mayfield eluded police. yesterday officers were checking out an attempted robbery call on berry road where they apprehended him. now they say they have gun and ballistic evidence that ties him to two other murders that occurred thus week. moments ago we talk to the mother about what has happened. >> disgust. disgust. completely disgusted. he killed

nancy: a pizza shop owner chased a suspect after being robbed and caught up with him. cheryl conner has more. chyles they are giving out free slices right now and they do it every thursday. the shop owner says the instinct kicked in when the men tried to cake advantage of the family business and their generosity. >> the pizza is hot again and ready to hand it out for free this afternoon. he won't let an attempted robbery stop the german town business or hurt the family. >> when i saw the gun and i was like no, this is a family business and somebody come up and put the family's life and my life in jeopardy. i was working on my instincts. >> his brother was behind the counter when two men came in, one with a gun. he told them he didn't have access to the register. >> call him.

>> we are learning that the suspect knew the business owner. he told the police they looked familiar. they are identified and are from arlington. is there one of the men held a gun at me and said i will shoot you, i will kill you. i screamed outside "somebody call the police." they got in their car. i got in my car. we exited the parking lot. there he called 911 and gave the operator a description of the car. he then followed the honda civic on to 270. it went to the 495 before crashing on the g.w. parkway. both men arrested and he on the charges of attempted armed robbery and first degree assault. >> it's shocking to me. why somebody was, you know, come to threaten my business, my livelihood. >> the police give credit to him for helping them catch the

nancy: we are learning more about how a man boarded a plane to tokyo without the proper ticket. a pair of brothers with nearly identical names used a duplicate boarding pass. one had a legitimate ticket and the other booked on a different flight with a different airline. the f.b.i. is now weighing criminal charges. larry: the organizer of the deadly white nationalist rally in charlottes wants the perjury trial moved. he tells a judge the client is unable to get a fair trial in the city. the perjury charge stems from a warn statement that he says he was assaulted by a charlottesville man in january. and later admitted to attacking the man. nancy: democrat doug jones will be a senator when sworn in january 3. today the officials certified the special election victory. but his opponent is not going quietly. >> the alabama circuit court judge denied a motion filed by the republican roy moore.

a delay in certifying the results from december 12. democrat doug jones was certified thursday as the winner. earning 20,000 more votes than moore accused of dating and in some cases sexually assaulting teen girls while he was in his 30's. in moore's complaint he took a polygraph test about three of the women. the results reflected i did not known nor had i had sexual contact with any of the individuals. the campaign questions what he had highly unusual turn-out in a county with a large african-american population, citing election fraud experts one of whom is knowing about posting about the j.f.k. conspiracy theories. >> it's the job to make sure the election are free, proper and fair. >> he said some claims he received were not received were not true. >> to date, by the time i left the office to come over here we had 115 of the complaint
