to first responders. fire crews across our area... have seen a busy start to the new year. in the last 3 days, fire companies through northern virginia, washington dc and suburban maryland have responded to major structure fires more than a dozen times. and even when the fires are not caused by the cold-- the weather makes fighting them tougher. fire crews say they have to take special precautions to make sure their water hoses don't freeze. a reminder from firefighters-- when the weather gets

home very happy after watching their team dominate the clemson tigers in the sugar bowl last night. the crimson tide jumped ahead in the first quarter with strong plays on offense. and defensively they smothered the defending national champions, who were shut out in the second half. alabama never trailed, and cruised to a 24-6 victory. with the win, alabama returns to the national title game. and if that sound familier-- it should. alabama has won the national title 4 times since 2009. waiting to meet alabama in the title game-- is the georgia bulldogs, who punched the

with a rose bowl game that is being called an instant classic. this on was no defensive battle-- the bulldogs tied the game at 45 to force it the first overtime in rose bowl history. then, in double overtime, the bulldogs snap it directly to running back sony michel, who punches it in for a touchdown. bulldogs head to the title game..54-48. this sets up an all-sec national championship for the second time in seven seasons. but it won't be a rematch since georgia and alabama did not play each other in 2017. they will meet next week in atlanta. coming up--

his trunk with fireworks but before he could get them home, a stray firework landed in his trunk! that ignited 600 more. his prized dodge charger quickly caught fire. the incident was captured on camera, and has gone viral on social media. no one was hurt when the fireworks exploded. and amazingly, the car is not totaled. the owner plans to get it fixed. in the district.. officials are fed up about people calling 9-1-1 to complain about dockless bikes, when it's not a real emergency. the bikes are often left in precarious places. the police department says it recognizes people's frustration regarding the dockless bikes. but it's urging residents to "not"

montgomery county are on a mission to help the homless in this freezing weather. kendall haley and daniel wilson own the clothing line, "faded ambition." they've designed sleeping bags for the homeless. three weeks ago, they raised enough money for 100 sleeping bags, through crowdfunding. they've handed out dozens of sleeping bags in d.c. and they're now urging celebrities to help them. the two entrepreneurs are using the hashtag "100 sleeping bags" as part of their social media challenge. their long-term goal is to help using the hashtag "100 sleeping bags" as part of their social media challenge. their long-term goal is to help provide the homeless with opportunities.. that will keep them off

in the wake of the "hastag- me too" movement-- many hollywood stars have called for changes in the way the industry does business, especially surrounding allegations of sexual misconduct. now-- one group says "time's up!" that's the anti-harassment initiative... launched by reese witherspoon, jennifer aniston, shonda rhimes, kerry washington, and meryl streep - along with hundreds of other women in hollywood. the group -- writing an open letter... vowing support for women in the entertainment business and beyond.
