in this deep freeze for nearly a week and i think we are starting to suffer from cold stress. temperatures are well below zero. we have 6 a.m., 10:00 a.m. temperatures going from 14 to may be degrees by late morning. then at least it is drive for the day. for the day. even in the afternoon, like this morning, make sure the kids are really warm if they will be waiting at the bus stop by themselves and not able to wait inside your car. as far as road conditions go, we are in the green. what, late you wednesday, thursday, we will see this postal storm in some areas of the northeast with blizzard conditions. more on that, coming up. main breaks, as larry mentioned. three of them south of the beltway. john lewis out there at the scene. this is a water main break that occurr

traffic now able to get by in each direction. traffic north and southbound to and from takoma park squeezing by to the right. you will find that we have a water main break on wheeler road with water getting -- with trafficking by each way. there is a portion that is tied up. coming out of hyattsville from yesterday's water main break, authorities tell me that repairs continue this morning, southbound lanes are closed. finally in virginia, between north washington and north columbus street they are still tying up the lanes there. largo town center and mount linen square, orange single tracking between new carrollton and chevrolet. that is our traffic watch. back in the next 10 minutes to take a look at the right on 66. adrianna: right now a school in bc is in the dark. kramera pipe burst at middle school in southeast. that is where sam is live. a lot of cleanup this

[laughter] veronica: the fact is we are going to have to wait 5, 6, seven days before we get the break. windchill temperatures are just brutal out there. we have the air so cold, it feels like minus two in leesburg. minus six now in around war, reston, the herndon area. at the bus stop this morning we want to make sure the kids have the necessary gear on. the sun is up today, 7:27, your afternoon, 26 to 27 degrees. tomorrow morning, not quite as piercing

with the story that they will be talking about this morning. sam: imagine having to babies -- babies,agine having to born in different years. she was due on january 27, but had a c-section for january 10 the schedule. but two minutes before the new year she gave birth to a baby boy, five pounds nine ounces. his twin sister was slightly reached and had to be delivered by c-section, delivered 18 minutes after her brother, but technically in the next year. she weighed in at four pounds 10 ounces. here is mom. >> i feel really happy because i just had my two babies. kidd: here is a picture of the staff who delivered the last baby of 2017 and the first baby of 2018. they can say that they were twins born in different years. a nice little conversation starter.

>> you are watching "good morning washington," on your side. a school in d.c., in the dark. adrianna: frigid weather cause a pipe to burst at fraser middle school in southeast. sam, a lot of work to be done there this morning? sam: crews are busy out there from d.c. fire and washington gas. take a look behind me on the 1700 block of q street. this is kramer middle school. overnight we are told that a pipe burst in the basement, shutting off the power. you can see hours later that the fire alarm is still breaking in some of the classrooms here. the good news is that students do not return to class in d.c. today. no word yet on when they will get this fixed. we are working to find out if there was more than one pipe. washington gas is on the scene here working with firefighters. we are working to figure out what the situation is in the basement.

of q street remains closed at this hour and it will likely be several hours before it we opens. reporting live, sam sweeney. adrianna: happening right now, as julie mentioned, monitoring that one, not two, but three water main breaks in alexandria, montgomery street turned into a skating rink but the good news is that there is no major traffic impact happening right now. in prince george's county and other water main break closing lanes on rhode island avenue in hyattsville. montgomery county we have problems near new hampshire avenue in silver spring. route 650 is closed at oakview drive for those water main repairs. breaking overnight a freezing cold rescue in montgomery. larry: three people pulled from the car, they ended up trapped in ice. ryan hughes is there. leads directly to the creek. if you are not familiar with the area it could

situation. we just saw a driver come this way and we advised him to turn around. this was a dramatic rescue and an extremely cold close call in dangerous cold. take a look at the conditions. you can see the large chunks of ice and the road leading up to of icelmost a sheet itself. the rescue happening overnight, you can see the tires of the car submerged in the water with ice surrounding it. firefighters first getting the call last night for a car stuck in the icy water with three people trapped inside. this is at 10 mile creek on the west old baltimore road on shiloh church. police say that the driver drove over the creek thinking it was completely frozen, but that is went in.all -- the car zero degrees at the time, extremely cold. a swiftwater rescue team called in and all three people were rescued by boat. as you can imagine, they were freezing and evaluated by ems
