10:04 am
da, oh to die for. - i love mahi-mahi, love it. - [david] there you go, so that's a beautiful finished plate, huh? i like that, so this is the yambalaya. you guys have forks yet? 10:05 am
to booking through canary travel and apple vacations. we're gonna kick things off in kind of a big way here, though. ute is here with breathless resort. and this is definitely a resort where if you want to come and have some fun, this is where you should come in punta cana. - yeah, amongst the am resorts property, amongst the adult-only am resort brands this is really the place to come and party. party, enjoy the entertainment at nighttime, and just let it go in the daytime. you're free to have a wonderful time. - [natalie] when you come here, when you say party, what all does that entail? because there's a lot that goes on here at this resort. - yes, we actually do have a weekly and monthly calendar of activities. during the daytime there's a lot of sports activities going on. if you're really into fitness you find a lot of things to do. you can do boot camp on the beach.
10:06 am
in the daytime. and later in the afternoon, everybody's moving on to the famous breathless pool parties. - [natalie] is that where this foam party happens that i've been hearing so much about? - [ute] that's where the famous foam parties are happening, exactly, at the so-called freestyle pool. - [natalie] and it's just foam that goes all over the place. - [ute] so we would have a d.j. and foam is coming it's all over the place, even going into the lobby and into the resort. - [natalie] it goes into the lobby? this is a party, this is a party. - [ute] it is, it is, really, really. and you see the people enjoying no matter their age. the average age is like the 30s, the 40s. but we still have young-at-hearts as well. - young-at-hearts that come in and enjoy themselves, too. - oh course, yes. - so do you find that this is a place where a lot of people come maybe then for bachelor, bachelorette parties, that type of thing as well? - very much.
10:07 am
ere we started out with a bachelorette package. so that's for the girls' getaway and they have special amenities they can pre-book with apple vacations. we have a special promotion for small groups. so this is a place really where a lot of people go together with their friends for girls' getaways, guys' getaways, for family adults-only escapes. it's just very normal for us to have groups of like eight, 10, 12, 15 people. - [natalie] i love it. how many pools do you have here? - [ute] yes, there's a great variety in everything. so you have eight swimming pools at the property. it's the freestyle pool that you're going to see later on. and the main pool which is actually more the quieter area. and then we have another six swim-up pools for those special two-room suites. - [natalie] so the foam will be going, the drinks will be flowing, and you'll just have a blast when you come down here to breathless. - exactly.
10:10 am
i love it, i'm going on future trips with you guys, so beware. (laughing) - i don't want to leave, and it's only been the second day. - welcome back to our viewer trip here in fabulous punta cana. you know, this next group activity is something that's almost become a tradition. it is fruit carving, of course.
10:11 am
and we're gonna get this show on the road. all the viewers are here, they're ready to watch a master at work. does that sound good? - yeah, master mister manuel, yeah, excellent. - so neo, why don't you get this started with everybody and tell us what we are going to be doing. - what you're going to do right now is very easy. right now, mr. manuel is just gonna show you how you make a carving. we're going to make a flower for you. flower with the melon, fruit carving melon flower. the watermelon. but today we're gonna actually do something beautiful with it. - [neo] yeah, yeah yeah, excellent i'm sure. (steel drum instrumental music) - it's really amazing. look at that! (applause and cheering) the thing that we love about this is when you come down to somewhere like this
10:12 am
so you come in, you're just blown away by these works of art. you can't eat them then, they just look so gorgeous. look at that, that's amazing. (applause) experts. all right, guys, i'm going to try this, too. this is the easier option, they say. however, that does not look easy to me. oh, i get music to go along with this? oh wait, wait, before i do this it's birthday time. ? birthday to you ? happy birthday, happy birthday ? happy birthday to you ?
10:13 am
- [natalie] happy birthday, joyce. you know what? (singing, laughing, and clapping) - hey, take this, take this. - [natalie] okay, this is what i love. joyce and frank have been coming down with us on these trips for years. don't do it, frank. what am i doing? no, are you really going to do it? how much do you love him? - herb, do you want me to do it, herb? - [voiceover] yeah. (natalie screaming) (cheering and applause)
10:14 am
apping) - [voiceover] happy birthday, joyce. - [joyce] thank you. - [natalie] happy birthday, joyce.see, we . i didn't even know. this was planned just in the amount of time so that i didn't have to do one of those fruit carvings. so thank you very much for that. happy birthday, david and i love you guys so much. thanks for always being a part of our trips. - i'd give you another kiss, but i don't want to lick where he was licking. (laughter) - see how much fun we have here? all right, now we're going to continue the fun, and we're going to send you off to one happy birthday, joysie. - thank you everybody, thank you. - [david] well here we are in punta cana. diana, thank you for having me to now larimar. - [diana] thank you for coming to visit us. - [david] it is beautiful, i've got to tell you. so how many gardeners do you have working on this place? - [diana] oh, lots of them, lots of them. - [david] yeah, everywhere you look there's a beautiful thing to see.
10:15 am
lots of weddings on property. now during the high season we have approximately three weddings per day at the complex. - [david] i was walking down the hallway and they've got these ribbons on the door that said happy anniversary. - [diana] people are getting married. - honeymooners. - yeah, passion is everywhere. - you know, you've got so many little areas here. like we're talking about maybe you could have a party here, or a wedding or whatever. you look beyond here and you go to the beach, what's the beach area like? - [diana] the beach area, we have a really white, - [david] it's like sugar, it's like sand. - [diana] it's like sugar, the beach is spectacular. it's just beautiful, very beautiful. - [david] yeah, and it's too bad you don't have to wait long to get a drink down on the beach, either. - [diana] no, you just raise your hand and a drink is coming. - [david] (cheers) just like that. and we've got the beautiful pool area. and it'd be hard to leave the pool, the pool's so nice. - [diana] yeah, we have five pools. we have two preferred club pools, two main pools, and the kids' pool as well for kids. we're not seeing any kids because they're all
10:16 am
a place for kids to go also, like on their own? - yeah, sure we have the kids club, open every day with a certified by red cross. and they're doing a great job, honestly they are. - one of the great things about all-inclusive resorts too, are the restaurants. the biggest problem for me is trying to decide which restaurant i want to go to which night. - [diana] we have 12 restaurants actually now now larimar and now garden. i think, i mean you don't have nights enough normally to visit all of them. we have lots of dining options of different cuisine. - [david] yeah, with 12 of them it's hard to remember. - and we have the buffet. - and the buffet, i love the buffet. - i love it, too. - i look like a buffet guy, don't i? - no you don't, you look great. - hey you mentioned now garden in your statement there, now gardens, is that the building i saw on the way in? - [diana] yes, right, what we have basically done, we have separated the 182 rooms of deluxe garden view room category. it belonged previously to now larimar. but we have separated it in a separate property.
10:17 am
ree room categories there, for dining options, and both the outdoor kids club and the bar options as well. it's a nice place to be. - [david] so people can come here and use this facility also if they're at now garden? and it actually costs less to stay at now garden. - [diana] yes, it's less expensive and the concept is that yes, the distance is let's say it's further from the beach, but they can access all of the facilities from now larimar. and guests from now larimar can access everything from now garden. - [david] you know what i like too? we're in this cool little area of punta cana so it's a little community out there with little restaurants, little stores. so if you're staying in now garden, you could go out that way, too, and enjoy the city. - [diana] correct, absolutely correct. and the city has many, let's say we have lots of things to do here. guests can enjoy not only the all-inclusive resort, but as well the city. and from now garden they can go out easily. - and the best, i mean, it starts the minute you arrive, because when you arrive you jump out,
10:18 am
let the party begin. so how do you like this job you have? - oh, beautiful, you know actually i came here for internship, but i stayed. - well, i tell you what, you're going to have a hard time getting me to leave because i'd like to stay here, too. - oh, just stay. - thank you very much, now larimar. thank you very much. - it's my pleasure. - [david] rum anyone?
10:19 am
10:20 am
10:21 am
- what a great way to retire. welcome back to new day cleveland. yes, we're in punta cana, and this is another great moment in our show because they've got a big assortment of rum here. and of course, the dominican republic is famous for rum, so a rum tasting with our viewers is certainly the way to go. so i'm going to find neo. neo is the guy who's pouring the drinks over here. - this is neo. - where's neo? hey neo, everyone's got a bottle, everyone looks the same with the hats and the bottles here. how's it going here, what are you pouring now? - everything is excellent, right now we're just with the rum testing, okay? rum testing, that's about all the rum from dominican republic. - okay, so what's the first rum you showed them? - the first one we showed was the white (unclear), over there. - let's see. - that was the first one.
10:22 am
is it smoother, lighter? - [neo] this one smoother, that one. - [david] little bit smoother. - [neo] yeah, a little bit, yeah. - [david] 1960, is that when they started making it here? - [neo] that's the name, up in the company. - okay, and what was the second rum you showed them? - the second one was that one. is the same one, but is only a different flavor. - [david] reserva unica, so how does it get to be brown like this, this color? - that's what i'm telling you is because they use different flavor. - so they probably put it in a barrel at. okay, so what are we pouring now? - this is the third one. this is different one, the turtle. everybody come on, we say arriba. - arriba! (neo speaking in spanish) - salud, one shot, one shot. - there we go, they're knocking that baby down. - [neo] salut, one shot, come on let's go. just one shot. - [david] how are the engaged couple doing over there, okay?
10:23 am
nish name). this is the best rum for all the dominican people. - [david] this one's so good they have to tie it up to keep it under control, right? - this is the famous one out of the dominican republic. - i think this one's my favorite. let's go see what they think. - now, let's see our tester extra, you know that one? is it good, yes or no? - okay, give it a little shot there. - [neo] let's go, shot right here. and we keep going, right here, senorita. and we go over here, and right here. - okay neo, you got it going on. hey neo, as they drink the brugal, what do you think? should they try some mama juana later? - mama juana is going to be the last one. - [david] the last one. and mama juana has some qualities, they say, very interesting in the dominican republic. and now everything is fun that's for sure,
10:24 am
- one of the great places you can book when you come here through canary travel is secrets royal beach. i'm back with diana, good to see you. - good to see you, too. - every secrets resort you walk in, you almost feel like you're going to be pampered immediately. the hotel atmosphere, the lobby. it's just calm, relaxing. do you find that people love coming here for that reason? - yes for this reason specifically. this is the concept of secrets, the relaxation, - [natalie] when you come here, the service is, i feel like it's just over the top. it's excellent. - [diana] yes it is, we provide a really high level of service in secrets. that's the part of the concept that is very upscale. - [natalie] now the rooms, they're gorgeous. - [diana] yes, they have been recently renovated, all the standard rooms they are gorgeous. - [natalie] i mean, you have this big lavish bed. the bathrooms look so beautiful.
10:25 am
to start going up because the food is so delicious here. - this is the part of the all-inclusive concept, isn't it? - it is, that is the part of it, that's the best part of it. and speaking of food, where we're sitting right now is the new restaurant? - yes, it's the preferred club restaurant, it's called seaside grill, just as the beach. it's open for breakfast and lunch for the preferred club guest and for dinner for everyone. - [natalie] for everyone to come. the buffet, i know that when we've been down here before we specifically had food at your buffet. - [diana] yes, it is really great. the food is international cuisine and it has a variety of different, let's say the cuisine of different nationalities. so each guest can find something for himself. it's a great thing. - [natalie] now i know we mentioned preferred club members. i know when you walk out onto the beach there's certain areas here where you can pay a little bit extra to have a little bit more privacy. - [diana] let's say those are the services that we sell together with the room, the preferred club. they have upgraded amenities, upgraded minibar,
10:26 am
e beach. they have lots of advantages. - [natalie] how many pools are there total here on the property? - [diana] in secrets, we have three swimming pools, but as well the rule that works well that all the guests from secrets as well can access all the facilities from now larimar and now garden, the property located nearby. - [natalie] which we've seen already and is absolutely gorgeous. it's just a short little walk right next door, basically. - [diana] yes, you just cross the door. and if you appear at now larimar it has a different concept. three pools here, five pools there. three pools here and five pools there. all the guests from secrets can go to now as well. talking about (unclear)the installations, the same thing. they can access everything. - [natalie] how many restaurants total are at secrets? - [diana] at secrets we have five restaurants and six bars. but 12 restaurants and 11 bars at now larimar and now garden. - [natalie] it's a short walk right to the beach. it's all so convenient.
tv-commercial
10:27 am
that secrets is the way to to. - now you know where you're going for your next vacations. - i know where i will be. and i will be ending up sitting right here on this same bench, probably. thanks, diana. (lively instrumental music) - checking out the wilderness of the dominican republic coming up after the break. we're going to visit a place called scape park. that's right, away from the resorts and into mother nature's arms. this is the chinese embassy in washington. wonder what they're up to in there? probably giving rob portman an award for being china's best senator. after all, portman voted for eight different trade deals. portman even led the fight to give the chinese permanent special trading status. sure hope rob portman's not in there negotiating another trade deal.
10:29 am

10:30 am
- it is, it's great. - i will never go anywhere else, i'm serious. (upbeat instrumental music) yes, we're in punta cana which is part of the dominican republic. and i thought i'd escape a little bit from the resort world to another world. and this place happens to be called scape park, is that right? - scape park, that's right. - and this is angel, and i said how do you say your name? and he says it's like angel, but you pronounce it, - an-hell. - an-hill, see i'll probably get it right two or three times. i've got to tell you something. we came to this park, it was about i think like maybe a 45-minute drive, an hour drive here.
10:31 am
- that's right, this looks like jurassic park. like back in those days. - [david] and this is just one little tiny little area. we're talking, what would be the best place to look. and this is the place he brought us to do the interview. what do you call this spot that we're in right now? - [angel] this is (spanish name). and (spanish name) is a water hole that's in the base of this huge cliff you see over here. this is actually a sunken cave. and it's a cave that's full of water. if you go down over there, you can actually dive. - [angel] into a cave. - [david] the water is so clear and clean. - [angel] water is clear, water circulates every eight to ten hours so it's clean, pure water. this is the iconic part of the park. - [david] how big is the park? - the park is a million square meters. - a million square meters. i was talking to, is her name jess? the geologist, one of the experts here. she was telling me at one time this was all underwater.
10:32 am
when we first came here, we were talking about going to the scape park. they have zip lines here. and how long are these zip lines that people get a chance to enjoy? - [angel] first of all, we've got nine lines. the longest one is roughly about 600 meters long. - [david] 600 meters, so that's 1,800 feet long. - [angel] that's right. our zip line is unique in the world because this zip line uses just one element, which is this clip. and all lines are attached to a clip, or a mountain. it's just this clip. - [david] you're seeing some pretty good views. - [angel] yeah, you do. - i brought my bathing suit, so where am i going to use my bathing suit? - [angel] you can use your bathing suit here at the (spanish name). you can use your bathing suit at (spanish name), we have another water hole. - [david] that's easy for you to say. - [angel] we have another water hole, but this water hole is located inside a cave. and you can also go down and swim.
10:33 am
also beach club. if you can go in a boat, you can party. you can cruise along the beach and then you can take a dip in the water or just chill out in our natural pool. waist-deep water, crystal clear, music from the back of the boat, personal bartender. - [david] that sounds terrible, sounds terrible, terrible. how about some horseback riding maybe? - we've got horseback riding. we've got a beautiful ranch. now they're going to start playing around probably. these are the horses. these are the horses that people can come and see different breeds of horses. we have here the horses that you actually ride because they've been trained to be around people. so they are very people friendly. this is the corral that we show them around. - [david] they're having fun in the corral. - [angel] oh, they're having fun. these are our teenager horses. actually, that one was born here, he's called pale face. - [david] and i heard some, it sounded like hot rods
10:34 am
- when i got to punta cana i thought i was in paradise, but i did not know what i was talking about until i got to zoetry. because ezman, zoetry is paradise, isn't it? - that's right, exactly, we have what they call (speaking in spanish). we have four different restaurants. right now we have here, this is only one of the best t we have on this spa. - [david] the spa, this is like a world-famous spa, right? - [ezman] exactly. - [david] what makes this spa so special from all of the other places we've visted? - [ezman] this is one of the best values that we have with the spa. we have special treatments, for example. right now we have a pedicure, fish pedicure. - oh, that's where the fish are biting at your toes? - exactly. - you ever do it? - we can take a look if you want.
10:35 am
ing when i walked in the lobby the beautiful floor, the giant palapa ceiling, and it just is a whole different atmosphere here than it is anywhere else i've been in punta cana. - [ezman] exactly, because the hotel is very quiet. and this is one of the best values that we have. it's very important, it's more focused for couples. we allow children, however they have to pay the adult's rate. - [david] well, when i came in, two people stopped me right away. they saw the camera and there were like, i've got to tell you, this is the best experience people were bragging on it as we were coming in. they couldn't wait to tell us how much fun they had here. you see the different places, the rooms. are they rooms or how are the rooms set up here? - [ezman] we have 96 rooms in total. we have our (unclear) the main difference is the location, the view, and the bedding. we have 18 rooms with the oceanfront. - [david] oh that's great, right on the ocean. - [ezman] right, exactly so we have 18 with the oceanfront.
10:36 am
here? - [ezman] four different restaurants in total, and three bars. it's important to just confirm, we have a la carte only. we don't have buffet. - so this is one of those experiences like if you traveled a lot and you want to go to the place that might be one of the best spots in the world, like in the dominican republic this would be the hotel then, the resort. - exactly, so the people, if someone would like something very private, very intimate, this is the best place. - [david] do people get married here? an] absolutely, and many honeymooners. - [david] so how about the pool scene here? is that also very intimate and private? - [ezman] exactly, we have our three pools, two pools in the (spanish word) section. and in the (spanish word) section we have our infinity pool. - [david] well i'll tell you, i was so looking forward to meeting you, and coming to zoetry. i saw in cancun a zoetry property. and it was the most beautiful one in cancun. and here in punta cana i think zoetry here is just, it's a wonderful place.
10:37 am
10:40 am
10:41 am
- hey brent, casey, chloe, send money i'm almost broke. i need to stay here another month. - we're going to jail. - welcome back to our viewer trip here in punta cana. we are doing something that i think we all love to do best. cooking, right? we got the guys ready to go. our whole crew is here at the table waiting to get a bite to eat of this delicious cerviche that they are about to make. we've got felix hard at work talking over here. so let's go over, we're going to get involved. - we have the ingredients over here. we cucumber, onions. - [natalie] always doing it.
10:42 am
you don't have to use pineapple. you can use pineapple, you can eat it by the time it's ready. then we have the... - [natalie] grouper. - [felix] the grouper. grouper, (speaking in spanish). man, we're shaking. - [natalie] so this is the dominican cerviche. and then this is called, - mexican cerviche. - mexican cerviche, okay. look everybody. - [natalie] everybody, he wants you to look. - [felix] and the dominican cerviche. the difference of the one of mexican cinnamon, and this one is that this one goes straight up like this. - [natalie] big pieces. - [felix] yes, big pieces. - [natalie] so big pieces in the dominican, and then it's chopped up thinly in the mexican. - [felix] and the famous salt and pepper. and now it's ready to serve, very easy.
10:43 am
- so he just showed up how to make the mexican cerviche. now we're moving to the dominican cerviche which i've never tried before. - don't worry, this one is very spicy. - i like spicy, i like spicy. - can you make sure that you take her face. - is it really that hot? you're scaring me now. - [felix] i love my job. - oh, it's spicy. (felix laughing) - [natalie] that's spicy, you have to like spicy food we're going to do this together. - together, a presentation. so, first thing. - this is going to be served with a lot of love. just one, right? and then one of those? - use two, use two. take one of this. - [natalie] got to get a little bit of everything, right? a little cilantro, i mean a little parsley. am i done? - [felix] are you sure? - [natalie] oh no, i need pineapple.
10:44 am
look, no one's raising their hand. - [felix] spicy, spicy, spicy. - [natalie] it fell over, you want spicy? okay, well that fell. now taste it, go ahead. - [guest] well all right, with my fingers i guess. - [natalie] oh, oh yeah, just use your fingers, that's fine. is it spicy? - it's not that hot. - [natalie] good. (gasping) - [guest] it does, a little tingle on the back of your tongue. - it's good though, huh? - [guest] very good. - okay, who wants more now?
