cornelius town hall. the presentation highlighted common features of private tolling projects from all over the country, and compared them to the project right here in north carolina. >> at the end of the day, right, it is pretty clear this is a method and a methodology of cintra and how they do business and canceled many projects in the past and fully expect this one to default as well. >> it's a misuse of money, and we need to learn more about that and pay attention to what our government's doing, no matter if you are a democrat or republican, it doesn't matter. everybody needs to pay attention to how the big money is spent. >> reporter: widen i-77 supporters weren't surprised to see that cintra filed for bankruptcy on its texas toll project. >> we should learn and we should be grateful to states of texas and indiana and others who have taken the hit so we don't have to. seems like we're going down the same primrose path.

leaders in the u.s. gave more than $14 million to help classrooms across america. here in the charlotte area, red ventures ceo helped pay for nearly 300 projects in both north and south carolina schools. five of them were at elon park elementary school from getting new technology to school supplies. teachers use a website called donors choose.org to crowd fund things that schools can't afford. >> just a few minutes ago, my principal told me my project had been funded and it was pretty exciting. >> i was thinking i wasn't going to get it funded and it would roll over to next year, i'm overwhelmed, really, really excited. kayla: the two teachers who we spoke with say they'll be getting new books, a floor rug and two new macbooks. >> so is president obama to blame for the rise of donald trump?

kayla: more layoffs in the queen city from rite aid. it is shutting down distribution center located on statesville avenue in north charlotte. 270 employees will be left without a job. layoffs are set to begin in mid-may and continue through mid-june. it's consolidating operations into a brand-new $90 million facility in spartanburg south carolina. it will provide severance packages to the charlotte employees when the center closes. not everyone is cutting jobs. 150 jobs are coming to cleveland county. chinese manufacturer is building a brand-new production facility in south carolina. the building will be a first for the company. various openings include machine ops, technicians and customer service options. they'll start hiring over the next five years. if you're a frequent flier for business or pleasure, then this will be music to your

a new ten year lease between charlotte douglas international and all of the major carriers is expected to be approved by city council monday night. delta, united, american, southwest and jetblue are all part of the deal that will replace american airlines 30 year hub operation deal. another big component of the deal, those airlines have pledged to put $500 million in terminals. an iredell county man facing major charges after his house sitting duties went south. daniel lee sheryl was house sitting for a friend but when the owner came back, police say sheryl had changed all the locks on the hours, driven her car, even stolen a number of items including the car. after an investigation, detectives say sheryl admitted to everything. he's been hit with a long list of felony charges. a fox 46 follow-up.
